Rating: Summary: Reads like detective fiction Review: F. Paul Wilson is a horror writer and "The Tomb" has some supernatural elements to it. But the book reads more like detective fiction. Repairman Jack is one of the more appealing and memorable fictional characters I've come across and his "profession" reminded me of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee. And like any good hero of detective fiction, Jack's psyche is haunted by dark and troubling events from his past that WIlson covers in detail. This is an exciting book that should be read for the quality of its storytelling alone.

Rating: Summary: REPAIRMAN JACK IS GREAT Review: F. Paul Wilson is one of the easiest and most fun horror writers out there, he is much easier to read than Stephen King and Dean Koontz. His words flow easily and with much excitment. I love his title character Repairman Jack. R.J. is this individual who will fix any dirty job you need fixing, with few questions asked. What makes him alot of fun is he a kick-... kind of guy, and is hilariouly funny. In this story R.J. must find a rare necklace that was stolen from a wealthy woman from India, why the necklace is important will come out, but as you read on R.J. is eventually pulled into a plot that concerns, magic, monsters and mayhem, and must rely on all his skills as well as a few he makes up along the way. I will not reveal much but I will say it is fun, lite and loaded with action and comedy.
Rating: Summary: Fun but not fantastic Review: For the life of me, I can't understand the folks who haven't been captured by the spell of Repairman Jack, especially in this first appearance. The Tomb is a classic peice of "Pulp" fiction, and Jack is an Icon for our times! Wilson has created a character that is unlike any other, and at the same time has spun a tale that is captivating and compelling. The pages flew by! I've read "The Tomb" 5 times, and each time it's been time well spent. The only thing you need to enjoy this is an imagination!

Rating: Summary: Boring and Predictable. Review: He is a loner. He lives outside the law. When the law can not help you; he is the one to call.
Repairman Jack.
Man has tragic experience.
He hates society.
He is a ladies man.
He has a sexy girlfriend and is great with kids.
Where have we heard this before?????
Skip this book. Previous posters were right. Much more could have been done with this. I enjoyed the villian and his sister more than RJ and Gia. I never skip over books, but I skimmed this one because I knew how it would end.
Dont read this book.
Rating: Summary: Repairman Jack - a hero for the the new Millenium from 1984 Review: I bought this book after seeing Legacies on sale at my local bookstore. The Repairman Jack character intrigued me. I find it amazing that The Tomb was originally written in 1984. The characters seem so fresh. I enjoyed the story which was able to incorporate elements from so many different genres. Repairman Jack is a unique and intriguing, yet believable character. Wilson is able to give us a character that we can be comfortable with, a real person but with a very disturbing, mysterious past. He gives us just enough knowledge about Jack to make him one of us, but keeps enough of Jack's pasts and secrets to intrigue us. I recommend this book to anyone who has always wanted a good adventure, detective, horror, story incorporated into one novel. I hope there are many more Repairman Jack novels in the works - I for one am a big fan. Read this book then all of Jack's adventures - you will NOT be disappointed. Since I've read this book I've read everything I could get my hannds on that F. Paul Wilson wrote. He is one of the most under-rated authors in fiction today.
Rating: Summary: Puzzled... Review: I bought this book because I enjoyed _The Keep_ a number of years ago, and the enthusiastic reviews I found on Amazon. I was puzzled that I found this book to be quite awful.Wilson's writing is clumbsy; his characterizations are one-dimensional (focusing on appearance, mostly); the characters' motiviations are muddled; the events in the story are not writen to be convincing or compelling. I read until page 110, hoping it might be a "good" bad novel, but it just got too embarrassing. Some readers might enjoy this book, having first set low expectations. I decided to spend my time elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE REPAIRMAN JACK!!! Review: I bought this book because it is (supposedly...) the sequel to The Keep. Well, I don't see any connection.....but on the plus side, The Tomb is a rip-roaring action/horror novel that stands on it's own wonderfully well. The book tells the story of Repairman Jack, a sort-of urban mercenary/fixer, who is hired to recover the heirloom necklace of an old Indian matron. From there, the story rolls along briskly, encompassing indian mythology, ancient Bengali Demons, and ritual revenge. Repairman Jack himself is a true find; a very human, almost everyman character, who is a refreshing change from the typical superman-type characters you get in books like this. You actually WORRY about this guy..... I'm really looking forward to the rest of Wilson's repairman Jack books!
