Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Suspense and Mystery written in Beautiful Prose
Review: This novel is a beautifully written account of two southern families in decay, trying to hold on to a past that isn't there.

What is really amazing is that such suspense and strangeness can be written in what is almost poetry at times. Beautifully written descriptions of decaying Gothic plantations form pleasing oxymorons.

Two reviews I read state that 'Alice Addison' is a pseudonym for Mack Mangham who wrote the extremely compelling "Shadow of the Hawk." It is easy to see his flowing style in the prose of both novels.

This book deserves your attention. Once into it, you will be compelled to rush to the strange and horrifying ending which still manages to remain uplifting.
