Summary: A "must read" for anyone concerned with the future
Review: I have just finished reading Ms. Dockendorf's book "The Mahdi". This is an extremely well-written and wonderfully suspenseful novel, chock full of intrigue, twists and turns. This book is truly a page turner -- I not only could not put it down but I just finished reading it for the 3rd time. The characters are beautifully developed, as well as the storyline. It is obvious that a tremendous amount of research and thought went into the writing of this book. Ms. Dockendorf's provocative novel gives us a lot to think about. It opened my eyes to the way we as human beings and as a society exist on this planet. This book has gotten me out of my general apathy regarding what is going on in the world, and into actively seeking solutions and making a difference. I truly now realize from reading this novel "for whom the bell tolls". I not only highly recommend this book to anyone but I strongly urge everyone to read "The Mahdi".

Summary: This book has touched me and changed me forever.
Review: I loved this book! Reading The Mahdi was a true life changing experience for me. I became involved in the lives and travels of the characters that quickly became real. It made all of my senses come alive! The author brilliantly created scene after scene that captured me and drew me into her story. The imagery was so vibrant and real, I could see the fields in Africa, smell the stale air in the hospitals of India, and feel the anger and pain of the masses in Ethiopia. And suddenly, I became connected to them. They weren't just "those" people over there. The author's first gift is her ability to show me how similiar we all are. How we all want the same things from life: happiness, peace, freedom, healthy children and a planet with a bright and wonderful future for them. The author's second gift is providing a path, a possible solution for so many of our global problems. Solutions I can embrace. For the first time in my life I believe that change can begin with me, and because I am not alone, if enough of us can hold Ms. Dockendorf's vision, and make it part of our vision, together, we can become a powerful to change the world!

Review: I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading "The Mahdi," but I certainly didn't realize this book would make me look seriously at myself, my values and the world in which I live. Ms. Dockendorf's book is a well written story that has the power to make you think differently about many things. I recommend it to anyone!

Summary: Great, life changing read
Review: Instead of giving the answers we seek, The Mahdi asks the questions that expands the reader's world and world view. A fictional look at what could be a very possible future, The Mahdi honestly exposes humanity to itself. It is this honesty and spiritual essence that drew me into The Mahdi and kept me reading.

If you liked The Celestine Prophecy you will LOVE The Mahdi. Much better written, a very compelling story line and a message MUCH more profound. If you have ever asked yourself if there is more to life than simply our 3 dimensional perceptions you must read The Mahdi.

Summary: Engrossing first-time novel.
Review: This is an interesting story, with a fascinating concept. On the other hand, it does play into the western stereotype of Muslims as terrorists, and there are some assumptions about Islam that are a hard to believe. For example, it is not likely that Muslims would flock so easily en masse to a person who is said to be a new prophet of God when the belief in Muhammad as the Seal of the Prophets is a requirement of Muslim faith. While the book is hard to put down, the ending does not fully realize the promise of the premise of the book and the development of the character of Bennet Williams is uneven.
