Rating: Summary: I bought it because Bela Jr. said his Dad would like it Review: After reading it I'm not so sure. The scientific explanation of Dracula was a bold move, but the author kind of painted himself in a corner and admitted in the book that even he couldn't explain the supernatural powers Dracula has in the story. It is a pretty good story with some original concepts, but there are some confusing things that distract from the enjoyment of it. Bela Lugosi is referred to in the story, but no one questions why there is a Van Helsing, Renfield, and others present.

Rating: Summary: VERY ORIGINAL, VERY INTERESTING Review: Although I was slightly disappointed that the real vampire Count Dracula was not in this, I was quickly surprised at this rather genious reworking of the legend. This book depicts "real" vampirism, without the supernatural aspect, displaying it as more of a disease than a hellish curse. The plot is like a modern telling of the original Lugosi film, with some original additions and twists created by the author. The characters' names are the same, and at some points in the story it feels like we are not in modern day Georgia, but London in the 1800's. In any case, this was a very enjoyable book, and is by no means cliche or predictable. The ending, in particular was a very creative twist. What I loved most was how different this book would be than what I originally expected. If you love the classic monsters, or are a Dracula fan, read this book. It'll be a fun experience!

Rating: Summary: Fantastic book!! Review: Christopher Schildt manages to capture in this unassuming mass-market paperback the essence and gothic elegance of Bram Stoker's original "Dracula." Schildt delivers this captivating and fast-paced story with a literary flair that will leave the reader hanging on every word. Fans of the horror genre and of the original Dracula story will love this book. Other readers will quickly find that "Night of Dracula" is as much of a love story and mystery as it is a "horror" book, and will thoroughly enjoy it as well.I can't wait to read Schildt's next book!
Rating: Summary: Awful! Review: Despite the garish cover, I was prepared to like this book. After all, Bela Lugosi IS Dracula and his son's forward was the real hook. Unfortunately, the forward was the best thing about this attempt at modernizing Dracula. The "story" was vague and disjointed. It is supposed to be set in the year 2000 and some of the charactors in Stoker's Dracula appeared, but in different combinations. For instance, Mina is married to Dr. Stewart, not Jonathon Harker. The tale becomes very confusing. Apparently Dracula is now a poet who is broken-hearted about losing his wife, Alyssa. Who?? Well, there just happens to be a girl who not only looks like Alyssa but is married to an army surgeon who is conveniently overseas. There are lots of added distractions such as a mention of AIDS, antibodies, Bosnia, a pointless attack at a bus stop, etc. Nothing went anywhere or was important to the minimal plot. Most of the book is full of this drivel -- pointless descriptions, poetry (bad poetry at that) and bits and quotes from the Stoker book. The detective in the case, who was at best a minor charactor, becomes the hero who is apparently conflicted as to his beliefs in justice. In one instance he is passionate about bringing Stewart to justice after his murder of a prostitute was discovered. On the other hand he is passionate about forgiving Dracula for killing drug dealers...? He's stupid, as well -- how many times has he been told that bullets don't affect vampires? The author doesn't seem to know what side of the arguement he wants his charactor to be on. Dracula, too, comes off as a panty-waist one minute and a fiend the next. I suppose the author was trying to show the duality of Dracula's nature but he missed it completely. All-in-all it was a waste of money.
Rating: Summary: The best contemporary Dracula Review: Great! One needs to say no more. If you like contemporary Dracula stories this is the one for you. At last a believable version of the age old classic. The book contains a twist like none other at the end. A must read for any fan of Lugosi.

Rating: Summary: A True Masterpiece Of Modern Horror And Suspense! Review: I cannot believe that someone came up with a new and exciting story for Dracula. The plot was spellbinding. I could not put it down. And the ending...well, I don't want to ruin the ending for others. I will say that I was taken completely by surprise. Christopher Schildt is a wonderful storyteller. He is a master of his craft. I am looking forward to his next novel. Bravo Christopher! Keep writing!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I have just finished reading this book. It wasn't a copy of Stoker's work, nor was it a repeat of Universal Studios work. It was unique. In ever Dracula story Van Helsing cases after the vampire, with the help of Dr. Steward. I was really surprised when this plot took a different direction. It is filled with all sorts of great twists that are missing in other monster books like the ones released by David Jacaobs. What really took me by surprise was the ending. Wow I didn't see that one coming, much to my pleasant surprise. With that said, I would highly recommend this book. But remember, this isn't a repeat of Bram Stoker and I'm glad it wasn't. I know what happens in that story. I know how that plot goes. If you think you know what is going to happen in this book as a Dracula story you are in for a huge surprise and a pleasant one at that. This book is HIGHLY recommended.
