Rating: Summary: evil and depressing Review: This book was the most horrible thing I have ever read. Steinke suggests by her title that Jesus does save (and yes, He does), yet there is absolutely no redemption of her characters and the reader is left with no hope, only a dismal dispair and anxiety. Only someone deeply disturbed herself could imagine such a horrific fate for her characters. I forced myself to continue reading although nothing profound or meaningful happened, just horror after horror. I will not be able to shake the memory of it, and the sense of hopelessness I felt after reading it has been hard to shake as well. Do not let the title fool you: this book is satanic.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: I bought this in great anticipation after reading suicide blonde. In her post-modern, existentialist mode, Darcey Steinke brings you into a surreal, torturous world and actually makes you feel what its like to be her protagonist. The use of language is extraordinary. If you like romance novels, you won't like Jesus Saves. If you want to read true literature that can be analyzed and discussed for weeks on end, buy this book.

Rating: Summary: dazed and confused Review: I read many books with this similar teen angst psychological thinking type and they all leave me with something specific. Jesus Saves was different. I read it rather fast, but was not happy with it when i was done. It was to imaginary from Sandy's view and i didnt really comprehend what everything meant. The plot was nonexistant and i still do not understand the point.
Rating: Summary: If You Like "River's Edge" Review: I've been reading Jesus Saves by Darcey Steinke. It's some twisted, sick sh*#...but, it's written in a descriptive way that conjures up some great (and quite disturbing at times) visuals. Lots of religious symbolism and presents facets of decaying suburban America in a bleak nihlistic fashion. If you saw the movie "Rivers Edge" and liked it---read this book. It reads like listening to death metal while your Grandmother is yelling at you to turn it down.

Rating: Summary: Jesus Can't Save This One... Review: If you're into dated themes and high faluten language, read this book. If you enjoy authors who use language beyond what a theme calls for, read this book. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and Brutal Review: The author is a gifted poet and wordsmith and often likes to leave things open to interpretation which i enjoy. This is a complex, beautiful and sometimes shocking and deeply disturbing tale of two adolescent suburban girls , one of whom has been abducted by a psychopath. Don't read it if you're looking for comfort food. Read it if you want to be challenged.
Rating: Summary: Quick, visceral read Review: The language of this book is image laden and visceral. Not for the squeamish. The plot is pretty non-existent, but I don't think it was worse for that. The book reads so quickly and smoothly and transports you to the places and thoughts of the characters so vividly. A good rainy sunday book.
