Summary: Evil Whispers
Review: A very good scary book. Owl Goingback is the best new writer of horror to come along in the past 5 years. If your looking for a good scary, horror novel without a lot of gore. Here it is!

Summary: Evil Whispers
Review: Come join the Patterson family on their trip to Florida. This trip is not on any travel agents agenda. Mr. Goingback is the best new horror writer in years.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Thoroughly gripping occult tale
Review: Evil Whispers begins with a prologue set in 1831 in a remote part of Florida .A soprceror,Mansa du Paul,is killed by Seminole Indians after his kidnapping and sacrifice of yuong children in the region goes too far.His body is dismembered and scatterd around a lagoon. His spirit however lives on and lies in wait for a suitable vessel so it can return and resume its evil ways.

The book then cuts to the present and the focus shifts to a vacationing St Louis family ,Robert and Janet Patterson with their young daughter Krissy .Krissy is possessed by the spirit of Mansa du Paul who uses her to reassemble his scattered bones prior to his return in the body.Ranged against him are the Pattersons and a Seminole medicine man Jimmy,-together they must stop him before he can wreak havoc on the world.
The strength of the book is to a great extent the quality of its writing and evocation of the Florida backwoods-there is a genuinely intense and brooding quality to the writing that lifts the book above its formulaic plotting.Strong characterization especially of the Native American Jimmy who is widely read and intelligent and routinely harrassed by the police who suspect him automatically when Krissy first goes missing.
Some good action scenes but this is more than gross out material thanks to some well crafted writing
Seek it out-its good reading ,especially for horror readers

Summary: Owl Goingback Really Knows How To Bring A Story To Life
Review: Evil Whispers enlightens the very soul with the beauty, wisdom, pride and nobility of the Native American culture, while driving the mind into a spine-tingling state of terror as it ponders images of black magic, blood sacrifices,an evil, flesh eating voodoo sorcerer, and profoundly hopes Mansa Du Paul is nothing more than a creation of Mr. Goingbacks imagination. One thing is for sure, my home is very near the Wekiva River, and after having read this book, I don't think I will ever be able to stroll down its banks again without bringing to mind the name Mansa Du Paul and this horrifying, fascinating tale...Frabrication of the imagination or not...it kind of gives one the tendancy to cast a cautious glance over the shoulder every now and then...just in case.

Summary: This is one scary book!
Review: Evil Whispers is by far this author's scariest book. Much better writing than his last book (Darker Than Night). If you like to be really scared, read this book. Keep 'em coming, Owl!

Summary: Drive-in Creature Feature
Review: EVIL WHISPERS reminds me of many 1970's horror films. Not the classics like THE EXORCIST, more like the fun drive-in movies of the period: PROPHECY, NIGHTWING, BEYOND THE DOOR. It takes the subject matter seriously enough to be entertaining, unlike the self referential horror-comedies of today.

Owl Goingback writes smooth, simple prose that makes for a lightning fast read. He is at his finest with action scenes and visual description. The inner dialog of the characters, however, is often cliche ridden, but if you can get past that you'll have a great time.

The plot concerns a voodoo sorcerer whose spirt inhabits a small lagoon in Northern Florida. In order to become resurrected he must possess a child. If you enjoy books by Graham Masterton, Richard Laymon, or John Saul then you'll enjoy taking this trip.

Summary: evil whispers
Review: great premise....good use of heritage and voodoo...great read for horror fans, would make a good movie if it stayed close to the book. It gets a little slow at parts, but I liked it and am looking forward to read his other books.

Summary: Not the best but a good read nonetheless
Review: I can't pinpoint what I didn't like about this book. Maybe it was the lack of shocking in-your-face horror events (see Laymon, Clark, etc). Or maybe it was the character of Krissy. Whatever the case was I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd hoped. On the up side the Indian lore makes this book worth reading. Owl obviously knows and thrives in Indian lore and illustrates this quite well in this book. This book is not as scary as other reviews made it out to be. I'd be interested in reading Crota or Darker than Night. I hear Darker than Night is supposed to be super scary but you never know until the read it right? If I could give this book 3.5 stars I would.

Summary: A Chilling Non-Stop Ride Through Darkest Evil!
Review: I climbed aboard the Evil Whispers express at 1:00AM on a Friday night, thinking I'd just read for an hour or so. No way! Finally, at 4:00AM, I had to force myself to go to bed and get some sleep. The next morning I jumped right back on and kept going until I finished it. Wow! What a thrilling, fast-paced, non-stop ride! American Indian lore, voodoo, a villain that totally creeped me out...and plenty of horrifying, suspenseful scenes that really gave me the shivers. A very scary, extremely entertaining book - don't start it too late at night.

Summary: I am going to try again
Review: I didn't particularly enjoy this book. The writing was great, and the plot was interesting, but the character of 'Krissy' was not to my liking.
The Patterson family goes on vacation in rural, swampy, Florida to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. When their daughter, Krissy, disappears the action of the book picks up.
It seems Krissy is the naive participant in the resurrection of an ancient voodoo priest who died in the swamp 200 years ago. The evil spirit of the voodoo priest, known only to Krissy and a Seminole Indian by the name of Jimmy Cypress, has been waiting patiently for his bones to be discovered, so that he can become flesh and continue his reign of terror.
I would have really liked this book, except for Krissy. I found her character to be tedious and exhausting. At times I was actually hoping that the voodoo priest would win the battle.
I will however read another of Mr.Goingback's books.
