Rating: Summary: Interesting blend of faerie history and fantasy Review: Imagine blending the most interesting elements of "Poltergeist", "Indiana Jones", "Exorcist", and "Wizard of Oz" into a book, and you got Feist's 'Faerie Tale'. I've been a fan of fantasy for a long time, but this book is quite unique, and psycholgically sharp. It's also quite haunting at times, giving you the creeps if you're reading alone at home at night. Too bad there is no really memorable character, human or supernatural.
Rating: Summary: Irish Folk lore brought to life. Review: Every young child has an over active imagination. Things under the bed or something in the closet. Why are the mushrooms growing in a circle? It's a Fairy ring? All kids Irish or not have heard tells about "little" people, or maybe you had a neighbor who had gnomes in thier front yard. Did you ever stop to think why? What if it is true. By the way, the gnomes in the front yard do come to life after sunset. Want some good Irish folk lore, thrown in with the excellent writing ability of Raymond Fiest. This is the book for you. Just be sure your kids are allright up stairs first.I've read the book three times and I love it more every time.
Rating: Summary: I was very disappointed; Mr. Feist can and has done better. Review: I'm a fan of Mr. Feist's Riftworld saga, so I started reading this book with high expectations. I couldn't even finish it. The violence, etc., was just too graphic. If you're a fan of horror or *really* dark fantasy (which I'm not) you might enjoy this. However, if you're reading this because you're a fan of Riftworld and expecting more of the same-- Don't.
Rating: Summary: very scary and intense book Review: I have read Mr. Fiests other works and they are all great books, but I really like the idea of this one because of the originality which is lacking in todays book world. The book moves along at a great pace and even gets you in the mood to learn a little bit more about celtic culture. I have read alot of books and am very picky about which ones I like, but I didn't have much choice with this one.
Rating: Summary: try reading this while listening to Moods album Review: I read this about 6 years ago and will remember it always as one of the most haunting stories I have read. Having read over 1500 novels, that says a lot. Whilst reading this I happened to be listening to a personal stereo playing the album Moods (includes titles like Twin Peaks theme, Chi Mai and Inspector Morse theme). The album and the book created a spellbinding atmosphere and I would definitely recommend you do the same. The scene I recall most fondly is where the daughter gets lost on her horse in the forest and meets Aerial for the first time, in the form of a blacksmith, and is enraptured.
Rating: Summary: Quite entertaining, but not as good as The Riftwar Saga Review: I thought this book was pretty good, but nowhere as good as some of Feist's other books, such as Magician and A Darkness at Sethanon, but still a good book in its self, and worth a read.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully well-written book from Feist's early days Review: With "Faerie Tale," Feist allows his readers a glimpse into the world of Phil Hastings and family. Though not what one might call the typical American family, the author invokes our sympathy by making the Hastings family a realistic one (i.e. a divorced family with a teenager from one and two small children from another marriage). The Hastings clan makes the mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They become caught up in a situation that few could comprehend - indeed, the only person in the novel that has any conception of the situation is an old Irish alcaholic. Feist very cleverly weaves ancient Irish myth and modern life together in a work that keeps its reader on the edge of his seat. This book is a terrific example of today's industrialized society clashing with the gods of yesterday. It is a ghost story that reminds us that some things from the past are best left unknown. This was the first book I read by Mr. Feist and I belive it to be the best of his works. In my career as a bookseller, I recommended this book dozens of times and have never come across anyone that was able to stop reading. I forced all of my colleagues at the bookstore to read it and years later, they still recommend it. In fact, I think I may be personally responsible for keeping this book on the shelf! If you enjoyed any of Feist's other works, I strongly suggest you try "Faerie Tale." Fans of the suspense/horror genre will also find this an entrancing read. I have been an avid reader for many years and this book has definitely made my top ten, if not my top five.
Rating: Summary: Captivating and very awe inspiring! Review: This has definitely one of the best books I have read in my lifetime. (i've read it three times already since Jan 1991). The story totally draws you into the world of faeries and keeps your attention focused without there ever being a dull moment. You won't be able to put this one down! A must read!
Rating: Summary: Good, but i have a question Review: wow, another great work by feist. i have read all his other books with the exceptions of shards of a broken crown and the empire books he co-authered. the book was captivating, fun, scary, and very thought provoking. if anyone can please tell me though (e-mail me) when did patrick have time to find his fairy stone? I dont see how he could have had time to do it especially after what happened at the end.
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: A brilliant book one which i have read many times and will be reading again for many years to come.
