Rating: Summary: Bit Unrealistic but Stays on the Tracks of an Enjoyable Read Review: Hannah and her other high school friends are part of the school's field trip to San Francisco travelling by train from Chicago. Kerry who needs to put on makeup every ten minutes and change clothes every hour is enraged when the conductor takes her vastly too large carry on to the baggage car from her whipped boyfriend who was struggling getting it onto the train. When she goes to get it she finds the coffin of a recently deceased class member is also going to San Francisco. Even though she, Hannah and the rest of the gang had treated the kid they had forced the nick name of Frog onto like a social leper and made his life miserable she throws a tantrum about having to share the train with his corpse which much to her disgust gets her nowhere. When the train enters its first tunnel and the Frog's girlfriend is found nearly strangled to death the terror begins for the gang of friends. Hannah seems to be of special interest to the murderer but she won't tell her friends why. It seems that Frog is not happily staying in his coffin and she and her friends are in grave danger.
It was an enjoyable quick read and is ideal to read if you have to kill a few hours somewhere, maybe even at the train station. You do have to overlook that surely after an attempted murder the train would be stopped at the next town and all suspects removed to an interview room with the local police but obviously they have to stay on the train for the story to happen. I've caught the train from Chicago to San Francisco and it doesn't stop for a half a day in Denver either, it stops at places to refuel yes but not a whole morning and there's no way it would delay hundreds of passengers to wait for one teenager to reappear or not. Also why they would expect the corpse of Frog to be in the very same coffin they rescued Hannah from seems to defy logic. If you can overlook these things and accept the work as pure fiction then this is a very enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: It was really creepy! Review: Hannah and her school friends were going on a trip to San Francisco bt train. One by one each of her friends were attacked. The Train was a thrilling story and was ended unexpectedly by the person who you least thought of would be behind the attacks of the pupils of Parker High School
Rating: Summary: "A one-way ticket... to terror." Review: Hannah Deaton--along with 29 other Parker High students and 2 chaperoning teachers--is expecting the August train tour from Chicago to San Francisco to be a lot of fun. However, there's just one distraction--a coffin is being transported in the baggage compartment of the train, and inside is the body of Frederick Roger Drummond, aka Frog, the late troublemaker at Parker High who recently died in a fiery automobile accident.Shortly after departure, some students are mysteriously attacked, including Hannah who is knocked unconscious and placed in Frog's empty coffin. But where was Frog's body if not in the coffin? Accordingly, Hannah starts to believe Frog isn't dead, that he's instead seeking revenge on Hannah and her friends for being so mean to him last year. I thought "The Train" was an all right book, but it's not my favorite; it's more of a 4 or 4 1/2-rating than a 5. The train setting was great though since I love trains, and the book vaguely reminded me of the cheesy 1980 horror flick starring Jamie Lee Curtis called "Terror Train". However, some scenes were somewhat drawn-out, like the one with Hannah locked in the coffin; and sometimes the characters were thinking far too slowly for the reader or reacted too predictably. Still, if you're into Point horror books and like Diane Hoh, then you'll probably like "The Train". For readers age 12 and up.
Rating: Summary: Amazing!..... Review: Hannah, Mack, Kerry, Lewis, and Jean Marie are all a group of best friends on a school trip to California by train. Soon after boarding, Hannah discovers that the coffin of Frog Drummond -- a school outcast who was killed in a car accident -- is on board. After telling her friends the news, they all confess to tormenting him; soon their lives are in danger when a deranged stalker, who they believe to be Frog himself, shatter their plans. "The Train" by Diane Hoh was outstanding! I'm a thriller fanatic, and out of all of the books I've read so far, this is the best! From the first chapter to the last, it's suspenseful. The storyline and setting is unique, in numerous ways. For one, in most thrillers, life-threatening events occur, but there usually isn't an actual death or murder. There was in this book, which turned out to be sad, because it was one of the main characters, and after reading, you get attached and feel like you've lost a friend! Secondly, most books don't completely shock you at the end. You usually suspect everyone to a certain extent. But, the killer in "The Train" was totally unexpected! That is what I call the perfect thriller-chiller! Enjoy! Also recommended: a.) "Double Date" by Sinclair Smith b.) "The Boy Next Door" by Sinclair Smith c.) "Starstruck" by Richie Tankersley Cusick d.) All books by Joan Lowery Nixon
Rating: Summary: It was pretty good. Review: I had never read any of Diane Hoh's books until I read this. It was okay. I was scared at some moments. But, for the whole time, Hannah just kept whining about being trapped in a coffin. I mean, it wasn't that big of a deal. And the ending was okay, it could have been better if it end ended on the train. And the part where one train rider (i won't say who) gets thrown off the train was kinda stupid. No offense to Ms. Hoh. Still, it was an okay book...I just think it could have had some more. Oh yeah, if you liked that book, you'll probably like the movie "Terror Train." It's so scary!
Rating: Summary: Scary from start to finish. Review: I thought this book was really good and scary the entire way through, and the killer was definately NOT the person I thought it would be. The only bad thing about the book was that some parts were unrealistic like how the killer broke out the window to make people think she had commited suicide, taken out the ceiling panels, and climbed inside all before the others came back. Also, I think it is imposssible how the killer could be on the train all that time without anybody noticing her. Otherwise, it is a good read for all horror fans.
Rating: Summary: A really thrilling read!! I highly recommend this book!! Review: The beggining is good, when they first find out about the coffin and think their friend Frog is back from the dead for revenge, and then when Jean Marie gets killed and Hannah gets trapped in the coffin. . . Buy this book right now!!
Rating: Summary: A truly thrilling adventure! Review: This book was so well written, it's unbelievable. The story line always keeps you reading, and there was never a dull point. The storyline was basically: A lot of High-School kids were going on a trip, and they took the train. Hannah, Mack, Kerry and Lewis were all friends. Kerry took a huge bag, and the conductor put it in the luggage compartment; thus she has to go there to get her things! Hannah found a coffin there, and it was not just anyones coffin; it was Frog's. Frog was a scruffy boy who used to go to their school, and he died in a car accident. Everyone used to make fun of Frog, and he hated it. In the train everything turns nasty, and Louise, a girl gets strangled, Hannah is trapped in the coffin, Jean Marie; their friend was thrown off the train and killed, and Lewis was stabbed. It all starts getting too scary, when will it end??? Read the book to find out
Rating: Summary: The Train by Diane Hoh Review: This is a great book but you have to be ready for it. i went into it thinking that it would somr murder mystery (one of my favorite types of books) but i was totally suprised. it is a very scary, sad and emotional book. Hannah, the main character, is a very distressed and scared girl because trains scare her a lot, especially when going across country. But after her and her friend, Kerry, discover the coffin of their formeer peer whom they nicknamed Frog in the baggae car, everyone starts confessing to the horrible things that they did to him. and, it's not who you expect. that's all i'm going to say because i dont want to give away the ending. happy reading!
