Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: A must have for anyone with an interest in Lady Death who missed the early comics. Like most books of this type it is a collection of the first few Lady Death comic books. Great art and good story. The protagonist is not one of the good guys, but why would she have to be to make the story good?
Rating: Summary: A rare story for comic fans indeed Review: Few TV shows, movies, and comic books rarely explore what is it that makes a good person bad, it's usually the other way around: a villain sees the harm in their actions present and past and tries to make amends for their evil deeds. This is not the case with Lady Death: the ravishing seductress of the netherworld! Although Lady Death first appeared in Evil Ernie a couple years before her own miniseries, The Reckoning is a rich tale of a very dark and hellish destiny indeed. Lady Death by conventional standards is a very evil woman, but compared to certain characters that surround her, she's the hero....an anti-hero if you will. The Reckoning is a collection of The Reckoning 4 issue comic book series that came out in 1994. The story starts off with Lady Death narrating her own story to us, the reader. Lady Death, a very long time ago, was a mortal girl named Hope who lived in Medieval Germany, with her abusive and horribly demonic warlord father Matthias. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but when the sweet, yet innocent Hope is mistaken for a witch by the townspeople she is sentenced to die by burning at the stake. She innocently calls upon demons that her father conspired with. While being consumed by fire at the stake, the demons make her a simple bargain: renounce your humanity forever and she will be delivered from being burned alive. To Hope, it was a simple bargain for she was near death at the stake. Hope renounces her humanity forever, and is transported magically, both body and soul, to an unknown realm filled with fire and darkness.....little did she know she was transported to Hell, to live amongst the eternally damned!! What follows is a battle of epic proportions between Hope/Lady Death, Matthias (her father), and Lucifer himself!!! For anybody who loves Dante's Inferno, Milton's Paradise Lost, or just plain gothic storylines, Lady Death is the perfect read, for behind the ... and the scantily clad Lady Death, lies a great storyline. Besides, when you read the story, you will probably guess as to why Lady Death has ... and wears next to nothing....maybe because ... is terribly hot and it's a realm of sin and desire....oops gave it away. What's also good is this story explains in depth what made Hope turn from a sweet, innocent, loving girl into an evil, vicious ... goddess of death! Definetly worth the money
