Summary: The Listeners
Review: As an avid fan of Christopher Pikes writing for ten or so years now, this is one of his works I find myself rereading over and over. It was the first adult novel I read by him, and I found it magical. His creativity and powerful writing skills shine in this book. It makes you think as you read, and sends you on magical mythical adventure in mental powers. It left me with chills, and a sense of respect for ancient rituals which we now look at as unrealistic. It made me wonder "what if" throughout the entire book, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone, it is truly satisfying and enjoyable!

Summary: NOT PIKE'S PEAK...
Review: Having previously read two outstanding books by Christopher Pike, "The Cold One" and "The Season of Passage", I eagerly picked up "The Listeners", thinking that I was getting another great read. Wrong! This book, while it has its moments, pales in comparison.

The book gets off to a promising start, and the premise of the book is pretty straight forward. An FBI agent, David Connor, reeling from a bust gone bad, is asked to go undercover as a magazine reporter and investigate a channeling group called the Listeners, who channel an entity called the "Big Mind" which is a sort of collective consciousness, coupled with ancestral memory.

Central to the Listeners existence is a set of identical twins, Lucy and Vera Temple, beautiful, young women who possess great psychic ability. When David meets them, there develops a mutual attraction between David and Lucy, and they ultimately fall in love. Little do they know that a great evil is waiting for them. Something primeval is lurking below the conscious surface, ready to spring forth and rock their world. When it does so, David is called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice to save mankind. What happens at the end, however, is sure to surprise the reader.

One caveat is that this book is not suitable for those in the nine to twelve age group, as Amazon.com suggests, given the violence, sexually explicit references, and four letter words interspersed throughout the book. It seems more suitable for a young adult audience. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title

Summary: Scavenger Hunt Part 2
Review: I am a big fan of pike and am waiting for The Cold One 2, which i think is never coming out. This book has some good parts in it, but i have to say this.

Mr.Pike orinialy wanted to be a sci-fi writter. But did succed. Then he wrote the horror novel Slumber Party. So i can understand why alot of his books go into sci-fi. Personaly i think the sci-fi themes in some of his horror books kills the story. Chistopher Pike, u didnt succed as a sci-fi author, so dont go there. And this book is like a sequal for Scavenger hunt

Summary: Theme
Review: I have read the The Listeners and I loved it. It had a combination of elements of the classic novel, such as romance, but had a unique twist to it that made it hard to put down, even for a second. It gripped me from the first page, and I finished it in one night, thus getting no sleep. I have also read The Last Vampire series, and if you have read it, then you know that humanity's ancient past is a reccuring theme in his books, as is the worship of Isis and Set. He also delvs into other forms of worship, particularly Hindu. He speaks of Krishna often, and reincarnates the dark goddess Kali Ma in the Vampire series, all of which are very good for younger readers. The Listeners is more of an adult novel, and is good if you like Christopher Pike but wich to graduate to a more sophisticated reading level.

Summary: More of these needed
Review: I loved this book, as well as Sati, and the Cold One. I wish that Christopher Pike would write more books aimed at an older audience. Could anyone suggest a good author for someone who has way surpassed the young adult novels?

Summary: Not an intelligent read
Review: I read this book out of desperation - I was on vacation with nothing else to read. What a waste of time and paper. The plot was silly and the characters weak. I find it hard to believe this book was written for adults, aside from some mild sexiness. I can't imagine anyone over the age of 14 enjoying this book.

Summary: Great beginning....horrible ending!
Review: I thought this book had a great beginning. It was exciting and had such great potential to be a 'real' thriller, unfortunately, the ending was really ridiculous. There was no denouement, as every story usually has. That's the problem...it just ended, and that was that.
