Summary: Bee-Zarre!
Review: John Saul spins a "queen" of a tale with this one. I've read plenty of Saul's novels, this is among the best.

It seems all of Saul's works include children, secret medical experiments, and the tearing apart of families becuase of it. This one is along those lines, but the experimentation is not necessarily intentional. I'll leave what happens to the reader. It's WICKED GOOD!

Although there isn't as much suspense in The Homing as I'm used to out of Saul, there is more horror that I like to see in his writings.

If you are a fan of John Saul, check this one out. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: A real chiller diller, possibly Saul's best.
Review: My wife is scared to death of bees, and after reading this book I think I would be too! John Saul combines his standard 'techno' horror plot (misunderstood teens turned to killer mutants by mad scientist) with a good old fashioned 9i.e. 'cliched') serial killer subplot and creates his most 'original', and quite possibly best, book ever! A real hair (and hell) raiser that will have you squirming to the edge of your seat until the chilling finale. Sure it may be clunky and unsubtle at times, but that is part of Saul's addicting storytelling charm. Recommended.

Summary: the homing
Review: Saul's portrayal of genetically altered bees that torment and possess the teens living in a small country town, sounds like the plot of a low budget horror movie. Simply put, The Homing doesn't have a deep meaning, nor does it carry much symbolism. It does, however, have different conflicts throughout the book that does make it interesting. The conflict happening in the whole book stays the same, dealing with the hybrid type of bees that sicken the teens they affect. Even though the conflict stays the same, the character's situations with the conflict are numerous through the book. These numerous characters and numerous situations, with only one connecting conflict, keeps the reader aware of what they are reading. Having to be aware of what one reads is something that draws the readers attention to the words placed on the pages. Unfortunatley, I'm not the type of reader that likes to be aware of different situations. I like books that flow and are symbolic and interesting, not far-fetched and boring.

Summary: Lacking
Review: So far I've enjoyed John Saul's books (Second Child, The Unloved) until I read the Homing. I won't say that it was a total bore yet it was lacking. I kept on reading just to see what might happen in the end and oh how disappointing was the end. Just left you hanging. I will keep reading his books cause I love his style but this one will certainly remain on the shelf for a long, long time.

Summary: Okay
Review: The book started out fine....but for some reason it just got really boring to me in the end, maybe it was my own lethargy. But i just wanted to get through the damn thing.

Summary: Excellent book!
Review: This book is about about this scientist who's made it his life's mission to avenge the suffering his older sister caused him in childhood, by bringing unmerciful death to any and every girl he comes across who resembles her. When Karen Spellman comes to town with her daughters Molly and Julie(who holds an uncanny resemblance to Carl's sister) Carl at one point attacks her in rage. She ends up bieng stung by poisoness bees. Instead of injecting her with the proper anti-venom...Carl uses a mixture of his own, and then unleashes an evil being of it's own inside of her, which she passes on to other teens as terror slowly begins to spread through the once peaceful town. I read The Homing when I was 13, and it was the first book over 300 pages that actually kept my attention! The plot was gripping and delightfully bone-chilling John's exquisite writing sucks you right into the core of it all. The characters are memorable and very well defined. The words are hypnotic and each page keeps you engrossed until you find yourself at the end. I loved this book! I think it would also make a real neat movie. I would definitely recomend this book to anyone who wanted a good supernatural dark horror. You can check it out at your local library...I guarentee you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Engrossing, but ultimately disappointing
Review: This book is extremely captivating. You'll be hooked from the first chapter, trying to find out exactly what's happening to the main characters, and why they are acting so oddly. However, I only gave it three stars because of the ending-- it seemed like way too much of a cop-out, not to mention it really depressed me for the rest of the day. Also, the plot was original and interesting but nevertheless very implausible. Sometimes this doesn't matter, but in this book it really took away from the enjoyability factor. I'd probably recommend it anyway, though, just for a quick read that will at least hold your attention.

Summary: This book rules!!!!
Review: This is a bone chilling book. It is a non stop action book and I could'nt put it down! The terrorizing bugs are the best part-I mean, what could be worse then being eaten alive by starved red fire ants???
