Summary: Atmospheric, sexy, fun! I loved this book!
Review: "Dreams of the Dark" continues in the best tradition of the Dark Shadows TV series. It is full of gothic atmosphere, yet not wordy in the way of traditional Victorian literature. These vamps suck the reader in, and make you like it. I wouldn't dream of spoiling the story for those who have yet to experience it; suffice it to say that the familiar characters hold some surprises, and the new vamp is complex, fascinating, and oh so seductive! Fans of Anne Rice, vampire fiction, and Dark Shadows alike should enjoy this latest effort. Bravo!

Summary: A Great Entry in a Great Series!
Review: A book to read in one sitting. Rivetting story, superb atmosphere. This one is better than Angelique's Descent...it is a character motivated drama, truer to the original show than any Dark Shadows novel up to now.

Summary: No suspense and tacky romance scenes abound
Review: A dissapointment for true DS fans. There is absolutey no plot and no development of characters. The book assumes that you are familiar with the 1991 version of the series, and yet, many characters still perform actions or say things out of character. The best chapter of the book is the first which sets the scene for a real novel, but the rest of the book never follows through. Many potential areas for suspense or interesting story lines are either ignored, or quickly glossed over so that the authors can spend an unreasonable amount of the book portraying sex between 2 characters (for those that actually want to read the book, I won't say who), over and over again. It is obvious that the book is written for a young audience, say junior high school girls who would giggle at these parts and have no interest in true literary work. This book shoud be classified under "trashy romance novels" not "suspense/horror" titles. It is difficult to believe the credentials listed on the back cover regarding the authors after reading this book. Maybe this was just a rough draft that got printed by mistake? For their writing career, let's all hope so.

Summary: Nice Plot Twists. Dark Shadows Lives Again!
Review: A nice addition for the fans of Dark Shadows, and any fan of suspense and vampire tales. Quite a bit more "spicy" than the original books by Marilyn Ross and it deals with the eroticism of the vampire very well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it cover to cover in one sitting!

Summary: Back Into The Shadows
Review: Although nearly three decades have passed since the original serial left the airwaves, Collinwood and its miriad residents continue to live on in the hearts of fans. Now, the shadows again descend upon Collinwood as Angelique reaches out from the bowels of hell in an effort to reunite with... or perhaps destroy... the only man she ever has loved, Barnabas Collins. And of course, caught in the middle of the supernatural forces all around her is Victoria Winters, who finds herself both longing after and fearing Barnabas even as she is swept off her feet by a mysterious newcomer. How closely does this book mirror the beloved series? Well, the first post-prologue chapter begins with the words, "My name is Victoria Winters..." Fans of the serial should snap this book up and perhaps use their own dark powers to summon up new books in the series!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Angelique has spent untold time in her damnation, plotting revenge against her truelove, Barnabas Collins and everyone close to him. And now, she has found the perfect tool, a powerful vampire named Thomas Rathburn. Barnabas has succeeded in keeping the secret of his vampirism, but now he stands to loss everything. Plus, if Angelique succeeds in returning to life, there will be no escape for Barnabas Collins.

This wonderful novel is based on the American television show Dark Shadows (1966-71), and brings back all of the magic of that great show! I loved the way that the author used the old characters, and yet brings them to life with new details. Plus, I found the character of Thomas Rathburn to be fascinating in his own right.

If you are a fan of the old Dark Shadows, then you will *love* this book. If you are a fan of Gothic horror, and are not familiar with the show, you will still find this to be a great book, with a great story and characters. I highly recommend this book!

Summary: A surprise ending
Review: As a long time follower of the soap on daytime tv I found that it held my attention. After reading the sencond book of the series I could not put this book down. I am looking forward to the following and consecutive books till they are finished. The ending was surprising and it should make people wish to go on reading. Both the book and tv series match. Very enjoyable. I, as a writer wish that I could write as well as this was written.

Summary: excellent
Review: DREAMS OF THE DARK is a great read!the book has only one flaw (which will matter only to a dark shadows original series fan such as i---that being where to place the events in the overall time frame...but i was able to do that to my own satisfaction as the authors did narrow it down a good bit..pages 369-373 of this harpers paperback is a must have -must read treasure for any dark shadows fan----at last it is revealed! if you are not a dark shadows fan yet----read this book and you will be..gothic horror at its finest....i gave it 5 stars because because 6 stars were not available ~~~~~~~superpap

Summary: Intense and enthralling
Review: Dreams of the Dark is the old Dark Shadows brought to its next level. The writing is hard-edged and the story introduces an excellent new vampire character. From the start the intensity builds with many twists and turns, just like in the original show but without any bloopers. Much of the story is from the point of view of Thomas Rathburn the vampire. The authors seem to pay tribute to Anne Rice's vampire chronicles but not being merely imitative. Dreams is a fantastic follow-up to Angelique's Descent, which I also loved. It's great to see new life brought back to an old favorite this way. Can't wait for more!

Summary: Fair in comparison to the first of the series
Review: DREAMS OF THE DARK was interesting. However, I feel Lara Parker's passion for the project captures the concept in a fuller sense. Her quality writing is a cut above what is presented here. If HarperCollins is smart and no offense against Mr. Rainey, they should give the recurring writer's role to Miss Parker, who auditioned brilliantly with ANGELIQUES'S DESCENT.
