Rating: Summary: Painfully Boring Review: One hopes there is character development in a 450+ page book. Unfortunately, this book remained superficial, one boring page after another. Brenda Joyce could not get a handle on what she wanted out of the characters. She kept switching back and forth. Is the heroine brave and smart or is she weak? Is the hero strong-minded? It was impossible to figure out because all characters were one way in one paragraph and completely different in the next -- switching back and forth throughout the entire book. The ghost is pitiful. When the author switches back in time to begin telling her story, there was no possibility of developing empathy because she was foolish and dishonorable. Yet, it seemed as if the author wanted us to feel sorry for Isabelle. How could we, she was an idiot!! Recommend staying away from this book and not investing in others by this author until she remembers how she used to write -- when she was capable of creating interesting plots with reasonable character development.
Rating: Summary: A true horror Review: One of the worst books I've read although I read it all. Unbelievable scenes and never-ending gore wreck the book.
Rating: Summary: Creepy Review: This book really scares me quite a bit with its gothic eerie plot. However, I couldn't put the book down as the story developed and more and more events happened. The idea was good, but I couldn't really sympathize with Isabel. I thought it may have more effect if even Montomery had betrayed her (e.g. convincing her to confess which would definitely damn her to execution) to put more effect on the story and her "star-crossed" life. While it is creepy and maybe unbelievable, I think BJ did a good job in getting ideas across, and allowing reader to vision the scenario. For something so different and well-put, I would recommend it for reading pleasures but don't expect a normal BJ book.
Rating: Summary: WOW! MIND BLOWING Review: This book was terrific. Unlike most of Brenda Joyce's novel's I have read, and I love all I have read this one was very different. I was ready for different. Cass and her sister Tracy fall for the same man. Tracy is beautiful and Cass thinks she doesn't have a chance. However Antonio is just as strongly pulled towards Cass as she is to him. Cass and Antonio are both historians and discover their family is tied to gather by their ancestors. This story is haunted and it kept me awake at night turning pages trying to find out what happens next. Brenda Joyce did a fantastic job developing these character to the point where I felt like I was watching a tv show. This is one movie you can't miss. It is a sit on the edge of your seat and never a dull moment. What I really loved about it was she brought the historical side of her writing into this as well as the modern day. TERRIFIC!
Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: This is the first book I've read from this author and I must say I'll think twice about ever reading another. The writing was terrible, the story disjointed and the scenes that were supposed to be romantic were tacky. As you struggled toward the end of the book, the ending didn't even make sense. I kept reading, thinking it would get better, but it didn't. After finishing the book I promptly threw it in the garbage.
Rating: Summary: suupee Review: This is the worse book I have ever read. If I could have given this book a negative star rating, I would. Somewhere in the last 5 years Brenda Joyce has lost her ability to write. And I use the word (write)literally. To sum up her primary characters in HOD, "She stared" / "He stared" endlessly, & that about sums up the emotion they generated. BJ needs a new editor to get her back on track & a new circle of friends who will tell her honestly where her career is going...down the drain.
Rating: Summary: WOW! MIND BLOWING Review: This was the first book I read by her and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to read more.
Rating: Summary: excellent, excellent, excellent Review: This was the first book I read by her and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to read more.
Rating: Summary: Well I finished it. Review: This was the first Brenda Joyce book I have read and it is possible I may try another, although I am not too sure about that. The book started off well enough and the plot seemed interesting but halfway through I couldn't help but think I had heard this story before. A ghost taking over people's actions and thoughts making them do terrible things, the Blair Witch 2 had the same premise and it wasn't pulled off there too well either. Mainly Isabel's ghost was so malicious and Isabel's life or supposed tragic life didn't justify the seeming intent of the ghost to bring death and destruction to the families involved. It became hard to swallow and I kept waiting for something really horrible to happen to her to make sense of it all, the moment never came and it left you with a sense of huh? In addition most ghost stories have people staying too long in someplace they should have left long ago and naturally that is what makes the story but this went on for far too long and it bordered on absurd at some points. I am trying not to put in any spoilers so I won't go into it in further detail. All in all the book was enjoyable and I read it quickly, which is usually a good sign but I couldn't help thinking that it just didn't make sense for the ghost to be so evil in regards to her life. Had it been more tragic and had she been completely innocent of wrong doing maybe I could swallow it, but it wasn't she came across as just a stupid woman. Certainly not capable of the hatred descibed by the author. The romance part of the story seemed thrown together almost and if you suposedly loved your sister so much why would you sleep with her ex a day after the relationship ended? The characters were hard to connect with and it all just felt over done on the whole of the story. Not terrible but far from great.
Rating: Summary: A scary but great romance story Review: When Cass de Warenne (the historian) and her sister Trace (the jetsetter) go to Spain as the uninvted guests of the (noted historian) Antonio de le Barca, everything starts to tumble out of the closets. Trace is there for one reason: to lure Antonio back into her net; this is the man for her. There's only one rather scary problem: Isabel. There has been a long standing feud (only 445 years)between Isabel and both familes. Once Isabel made her debut I couldn't put this book down. You never knew what terrifying deed would happen next. This book is definitely worth taking the time to read.
