Rating: Summary: Autumn Saga: A Halloween Extravaganza Review: Autumn Saga revisits the Hollywood movie monsters of the 1930's and 1940's, inadvertantly unleashing them in a contemporary setting, to both humerous and serious purpose. Why are they here? What can they tell us about themselves and--through them--what can we learn about ourselves? What is it about these physical and emotional aberrations of humanity that terrify us to our very souls?Paul and Greg, the main characters in the series, along with their good friend Joan, a practicing witch, have unexpectedly contributed to this haunting re-emergence. What will these three do about the monsters now that Halloween is only days away?
Rating: Summary: short and confusing Review: I wish I could have liked this book, but I found myself bored silly by it. The book was written in an extremely simplistic style generally found in books written by kids "...and then he did this, and then he did that, and then..." There was no character development, no exploring of motivations and no type of atmosphere developed. The characters were one-dimentional and the plot was as linear as you could get. The main characters have been imbued with fantastic powers, but they don't explore what this means about them or the world. A wiccan ceremony brings forth a bunch of monsters, one of which kills a person. But instead of this causing the characters to question what this says about the nature of reality, they see this as something that would make a great Halloween party. Luckily the monsters are cowed by telling them to behave. I can only assume that this is a vanity press publication.

Rating: Summary: Autumn Saga: "Monster is as Monster Does" Review: The Rainbow Arc of Fire is a series of gay-centered heroic fantasy novels built on themes of friendship, love, and morality-not the provincial, judgemental morality filled with "thou shalt nots," but the morality that understands that the laws of cause and effect apply as much to man as to nature. Each RAoF book somehow addresses the fact that positive, compassionate, humane acts yield positive results. Their "morality" is about treading lightly on the lives of others and on the world around us. If you read them sequentially, you also note that each new adventure is bigger and more ambitious than the last. The longer you follow the adventures of Greg Sanchez's close-knit band of super-powered gay and lesbian Pagans, the greater the challenges they must overcome. In the later books, their exploits take on a global and even cosmic scale. Autumn Saga finds the group at an earlier time in their adventures. It sets up a situation in which classic monsters and ghouls of film and folklore seem to have come to life, to strike terror into the hearts of the people of Denver. But there's a twist that goes to the core of what the Rainbow Arc series is about. Without giving away what's really going on and what part our Pagan protagonists have in it, what the story is really asking us to do is to consider the nature of monsters and the fact that "a monster is as a monster does". It leaves you with a little something to think about, and a story that can accomplish that is worth the attention.
Rating: Summary: Prefect Halloween read Review: Though I thought this book would have worked better once we had gotten to know the characters better - I truly loved this book. It was fun to see the recently weathly decide how to spend their money - get vengence on some bigots and have a tour of famous monsters all in one book!! The monsters were the best - Author Greg Sanchez really took some time and effort to discern what these twisted and tragic figures could teach us and gave this Poe fan a new and wonderful Halloween story to share with friends and family.
