Summary: GREAT WRITING, STORY WENT NOWHERE, DISAPPOINTING
Review: Atmospheric, truly thrilling, just went nowhere, disappointing protagonist(s)end up no place. Nothing frightening materializes as the book jacket promises, certainly nothing "worse than vampires" as the book jacket again promises. Just nothing, fright, fear, but nothing behind it.

Summary: A Vain Attempt
Review: I do not understand the last reviewer's opinion either. If you claim you love Bram Stoker, then you should see that this book is completely the opposite of Stoker's novel. This book is pathetic, low in ideas, has no good plot at all. The writing style is very terrible, cannot be compared with Stoker's original one at all. This book is a painfull and vain attempt to imitate Stoker's style.

Summary: dark depressing and atmoshperic...i love it...!!
Review: i dont understand these people...this is NOT a vampire novel and never pretended to be one... ok, its set in the carpathian mountains..so what....its dark...dreary...depressing and atmospheric...in short..its one of the best ghost stories i have ever read...if you like true gothic mastery such as E.A.Poe, Byron..and even..dare i say it..Stoker...well you'll like this book..it is modern in its content and the use of journal entries and letters is similar to Stokers novel but is far more subtle...you know they are out there watching you...you just dont know when they are gonna attack...but hold on for the end scene....although i admit it is slightly predictable...its still chills you to the bone.. excellent..

Summary: AWESOME - - simply awesome!
Review: I expcted little from this book - but got a LOT. The story is so intriguing. I love it when seemingly dull, ordinary folk get caught up in twisted events. And the girl! Mouth-watering in her allure - yet always with a hint of horrible danger. The evil presented here is intelligent for a change - quite refreshing! Highly recommended.

Summary: Will there be a sequel?
Review: I kind of like the story, but it ends too soon. Unless there will be a sequel of it published, I do not think I will recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Avoid reading this one
Review: I read the reviews to this book as soon as I finished it. I was absolutely amazed by what I saw. For all those people who gave it one star, or complained of it being about vampires, or not being about vampires are all totally wrong. This novella is written exactly like Bram Stoker's "Dracula" with extracts and letters telling the story. There is the obvious "undead" link and some extremely unpleasant thoughts planted in our minds by the writer later on, but ultimately Aycliffe has provided us with a fascinating little story that in turn interests, enthralls and finally exhilirates the reader. Reviewers, please try thinking about what you have read before you dismiss it as dross. Otherwise you show to all others that you do not know what you are talking about.

Summary: Atmospheric and creepy.
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't quite sure about it when I started, especially after reading some of the reviews on here, but I was pleasantly surprised at just how engrossing it was. It's definitely not an Anne Rice-style book- that's a good thing in my opinion, but I'm sure that some people will come into it expecting that and they'll be disappointed. The Lost gave me the creeps- it's the kind of book that makes you keep looking over your shoulder if you're alone in the house late at night. If you're looking for something different & you enjoy a good gothic, give this a try.

Summary: I'd recommend this book to any vampire/horror lovers.
Review: I really like the verse, all laid out in letters, notes, and transcripts of taped observations. It only took a few pages before I was trying to guess what "Mihai" was going to discover next. I felt a great deal of suspence throughout and the ending is fitting to a classic horror/vampire script. Overall, a refreshing approach to a genre that has seen too many miserable attempts

Summary: A different way to tell a story
Review: I too was surprised by this one. I read this in 3 hours and was just captivated by how the story was told. The author moves the story along by letters, articles and journal entries. I know I have read a story told like this before, but I just can't recall where.
