Rating: Summary: Terrific book! I loved it. Review: Charles Gabriel was more than human. He was vampire. After being entombed within the sunken ship, Titanic, for almost a century, a film crew unknowingly releases him. Being so long without blood, the Hunger took over. Charles comes to himself while in a mental hospital in South Carolina. His beautiful psychiatrist is the only one who may have a chance of helping him. Guilt for all he had done during the Hunger's possession of him, his mind has blocked it all out. He no longer even knows who he is. But he does know what. He meets another he thinks is like himself. However, she turns out to be insane and wants him to make her immortal. During it all, the husband of one of the women on the ship during the Hungar is hunting him. ***Beware! This one is extremely gory. But I loved it! Michael Romkey has just made another fan in me. This book would make one terrific movie, if they did not change a thing.***
Rating: Summary: Great book about the emotional struggle of a born killer Review: Dante is a vampire above vampires. Struggling with the moral qualms of having to kill to survive. I loved this novel it had much of what I needed in a good vampire novel. No real "HEROES" no real "villian but plenty of characters who can be described in that grey nebulous in between. This is a must recommendation for all fans of serious vampire novels. My only suggestion is to stop the book at the end of chapter 48 to avoid the tacked on happy ending
Rating: Summary: Ugh.. Review: I'm only wasting my time doing this because all the other reviews are good and I think some unsuspecting soul like myself might be FOOLED into wasting five bucks on a book not worth 2 cents. Seriously, I'm in high school and I found the writing quality poor. The main character, I am sorry, but he is so cheesy, part of the vampire mystic is lost when the loser doesn't even know how to operate a car window. The beginning was boring, the very ending was HORRIBLY cheesy...the only part that started to interest me was the Desiree character, but she's not anything too special either. And I just hated the whole 'the Hunger' thing, so cheesy. And I like vampire novels, so don't think I'm criticizing this one because it's about a vampire, I'm criticizing it because it's a BAD book about a boring and pretty much cliche (Ohhh, he's sensitive and into the arts! Oh he likes poetry! I can't help but swoon..)vampire.
Rating: Summary: Romkey's best work Review: I've read all of Romkey's previous books. This one is the best so far. From a savage beast with "the hunger" on the sunken Titanic...to the gallant Dante...watching his transformation as he puts the pieces of his lost life back together was enthralling. The ending was a bit trite and predictable...but I enjoyed it anyway...as it was how I wanted it to end.

Rating: Summary: The Tony Soprano of Vampires Review: Michael Romkey is an exceptional writer when it comes to descriptions, building a mood, and providing vivid graphic violence. Unfortunately, he does not seem to be able to tell a story. The plot behind the Vampire Hunter was truly disappointing and lacked focus. I don't mean to be overly critical; there is a storyline with a variety of characters, the building of a plot, and then everything sort of coming together at the end. However, it's lackluster, with predictable and stereo typed people with what comes down to a really silly ending. The main gist of the story begins when the Vampire, Dante Gabriel Rosetti (Charles) is awoken and freed from being trapped in the Titanic when a movie crew makes an attempt to raise the ship from the bottom of the ocean. Being unconscious for about 80 years leaves this Vampire with no memory of who he is or any of his past. Through some aimless raveling he enters an asane asylum of his own free will and becomes a patient of psychiatrist Dr. Abigail (Abby) Bloome who makes it her personal mission to help him rediscover himself. The rest of the story is a variety of episodes of Charles fighting his own demons, good and evil in between a number of sessions with the good psychiatrist. Not only are the local police and FBI involved in recent brutal killings, but a Charles Bronson like character makes it his personal vendetta to find the Vampire who killed his wife on the ship that was part of the film crew trying to raise the Titanic. As far as a Vampire story goes, it's a disappointing one. What it comes down to once again is, you have a Vampire who has a conscience; he knows what he is and he's going to try resist it. In this story he find a companion in a professional therapist who's going to help him get control over his inner demons - his Hunger. Michael Romkey has tremendous potential as a writer. His wording, his descriptions, and the overall mood he creates makes reading the individual paragraphs a pleasure. I'll continue to purchase his books because sooner or later, he's going to write a fantastic novel.
Rating: Summary: Smashing! Review: This is one of my favorite books! Michael Romkey is a master of the vampiric tale. I love how he uses historic characters in all of his novels. Vampire Hunter is a smashing book. Dante, the heroic vampire, was trapped in the wreck of the Titanic. I love how he manages to overcome the Hunger and to follow his heart. If you haven't read this book, what are you waiting for?
Rating: Summary: What a good book! Review: Vampire Hunter is wonderful work of vampire fiction! Charles is a wonderful char of what a vampire should be. Yes he is a vampire, and he has killed, but he feels remorse and shame for what he has done. When a research team is making a docoumtary on the Titanic, they release Charles (the vampire) from his watery grave. When they do that, nobody can survive. The problem is that one of the people Charles kills, the womans husband is hell bent on revenge to find him, and rid the world of a vampire. I don't want to give to much away, but trust me when I say this is a good read. The Characters. Charles the vampire. What a great char. He's smart, savvy everything a "Gentleman" should be. It was a hoot to see how Charles has to adapt to a "modern woman". How they talk and how they dress. Desiree. This girl is prue evil. She wants to show Charles how evil she is, but has no idea what it's like to be a real vampire. Some of the things she does is horrible. She provides some wonderful tension for Charles. Richard. He is bent on revenge b/c Charles kills his wife. There are some interesting symbolic qualites that Richard has that can be seen with Ahab from Moby Dick. He's more than willing to work outside of the law to meet his objectives. Over all this book is pretty good. I do admit that it may start off a bit slow, but as the story moves on, it get's more interesting. I highly suggest Romkey's book, I, Vampire. Vampire Hunter will not disappoint those of you who like vampire fiction. If you read this book, you won't be sorry.
