Summary: scattered and illogical but great puns and wisecracks
Review: OK, I am a sucker for good dialog. I love puns. I love snappy comebacks. And this book is loaded with them. That's the good news. The bad news: the plot is thin, hard to follow. A few characters are fully fleshed out (as it were) but many are sketchy, and many are killed off before we get to know them. The motives can be confusing. Count Dracula isn't really Count Dracula, and we don't ever really find out who he is.

Nonetheless, it was so much fun to read. I kept quoting bits of the dialog to my significant other.

Some of BunRab's Standard Vampire Classification: -Series: if it is, it's the first one. -Significant genre it comes from: Fantasy/humor. -Does the vampire hold a job? Well sort of, although he loses it in the course of the book. -Do the vampires drink blood? Yes, though it can be animal instead of human. -Is drinking blood a metaphor for sex? No, although it can occur during sex. -Is there a lot of sex? Nope, and not much detail for what there is. -Are there other supernatural characters? Yup, and a few too many of them, if you ask me. Introducing umpteen different subspecies of elves was an unnecessary complication. -Is it deadly serious (pardon the pun)? Nope, I believe I've addressed that. I mean, we have vampires with library cards picking up girls at the research desk, for pete's sake. -Is it well written? Well, the dialogue is great, the plotting and resolution a little less great. But it's not hard to read, and it's acceptable for fantasy.

Incidentally, I worked for a department store credit department in a large city with lots of ethnic population, so I knew how to pronounce Csejthe right off the bat. The book finally does explain it after a bit.

Summary: A Stake and Fried Delight, hemoglobin on the side
Review: Okay, I thought I was set...pun repellent, garlic, wooden stakes, Glock 9mm with a full clip of silver bullets, and a flagon of Holy H20, and some bean dip...for the reading experience. I was hooked from the very beginning, but landed when Mr. Vampire-Lite, Chris enters the world of the Doman. I won't ruin the tale for those who like fine dialog, character and pacing--and puns. I would suggest, however, that the story not only evokes all of the Mafia tales of getting out by getting back in again, but also Vampires Meet Rambo or Vampires meet Indiana Jones. And I would caution the reader not to careen through the book as the break-neck pacing invites because therein lies the pity of missing a subtle nuance that will leave you going "what the--" in the end. Enjoy and pass the hemoglobin.

Summary: This book is FANTASTIC
Review: One of the best, if not the best Vampire book that I have ever read, it really seems to kick a lot of the traditional vampire stuff out the door and then send the dog to chase it to the Horizon. I have to wait and see if there is a sequal(it doesn't need a sequal, I just want one).

Summary: One To Keep
Review: This book is one of the great stories to keep in your collection. Especially if you enjoy vampires, werewolves, and fairies. They say never judge a book by its cover, but that's why I first picked it up when it was first published. The main character "Christoper Csejthe" is intelligent, not exactly handsome, but you find him attractive. He's just finding out what he is, or isn't. His wife and daughter were murdered, and he is slowly turning into a vampire. Or maybe not. You see, he never D I E D. His maker says that he is "Dracula", and he never meant for this situation to happen. While trying to learn what he will become, we learn of different kinds of vampires, their religions, and how to get rid of them. Chris learns that he is wanted, dead, or alive. He's running from everyone, and doesn't know who to trust. Along the way, he's gaining some awesome powers. This book has humor, action, and romance. I've been waiting six years for the next one. I take this one out at least once every year and read it again. That Good.

Summary: Vampire's Are Good
Review: This is far and away from the normal Dracula Vampire Esq books. The main charater turns, looks at everyone else, and decides that he is not going to crawl into a hole and die like the rest of them.

The plot twist at the end is a bit irritating, because it is so completly unexpected. Every time you turn there are lots of little twists and quriks and things you realized, but never knew. The amount of research that went into the mythological creatures is amazing.

Read it. I've been crying that he has not writen more.

Summary: A truly new viewpoint of Vampires. Wonderful!
Review: This is not your typical Horror/Fantacy Vampire novel. It starts with mystery, and horror. It mixes in Humor and wit, and then tops it all off with racing action. I could not put this book down! I hope there is a sequel in the works!

Summary: Awesome book!
Review: This is the neatest book! I read a lot of vampire books, and this is one of the most unique outlooks on the vampire condition I have ever read. Chris, Lupe and all the other characters are so fun to read! They're all original and not cut and dried like so many other vampires and humans in vampire stories. Sequal and more please! I really liked the cover too.
