Summary: The story's end was only half a solution
Review: The Women's Liberation movement started when I was in elementary school. I'm glad that girls today have heroines such as Buffy. I still remember my excitement when I first found an sf [science fiction] book that featured a heroine instead of a hero. I was in junior high then. For much of my youth the general male reaction was of the "duh, I've never met a girl science fiction fan before" variety. I was lucky that women had already taken over the once all-male career I wanted, librarian. My older sister wasn't so lucky. There were very few women doing her job when she started and she had to endure harassment before she was accepted. I'm giving this background information because I wasn't at all happy with the way this book ended. I was getting increasingly upset as I read the book because the tone reminded me of the way some authors --including female authors -- made fun of the idea of women's liberation when I was growing up. Fortunately, Xander's remark about the womyn's movement and the noble cause of feminism on pp. 110-11 allowed to me to realize that Ms. Massie was preaching against taking women's liberation so far that men become unfairly oppressed, not against gender equality. I thought her message was effective. However, I found myself feeling sorry for the Moon Mom & daughters even though I wanted them stopped. (All right, one of the sisters was probably hopeless.) I would have preferred to have seen the Muses and their mother recover a sense of balance by seeing Apollo get his. I really didn't like the way Ms. Massie chose to portray and deal with these mythological characters. Random comments: BULFINCH'S MYTHOLOGY helped me get the names right long before Buffy found them out. I recommend that route for the impatient. Page 47, full paragraph 2: Nadine's year of being sired should be 1864, not 54. Don't bother wondering why the vampires don't just leave town until the Muses shlep off. There's a good reason. Giles' dialog was even more off than Oz's. I couldn't believe in him at all. P.67, paragraph 2: Did Buffy intentionally think "No Moon" instead of "Mo Moon", or is that a typo? The scene with Allison's amethyst ring did a nice job of showing the extent of the Moon sisters' power over her. P.73, paragraph 2 -- that should be "slayer mode", not "slayerette mode". Why is Buffy being so imprudent with stakes? Throwing them instead of using the same one or two to dust the attacking vampires makes it too easy for her to run out. Um, how was Giles supposed to go to the bathroom the way Buffy was safeguarding him? A Watcher with diaper rash would be a crabby Watcher. Got a good laugh from the Sensitivity Speaker's reaction to Sunnydale High students. Buffy's opinion of mimes was worth a chuckle. P.159, last line: the "already" needs to be at the end of the sentence for it to make sense. Given Mr. Summers' neglect of Buffy on the show, I found the scene where Buffy's parents are fighting over who gets her for their weekend plans ringing false. I don't like it when characters behave out of character just to get a message across. Overall, this was an interesting adventure. The way the murders were accomplished was reasonably nasty. The Moon family's plot was quite chilling and the solution to fighting a menace that can regenerate was ingenious. Aside from the reservations I've mentioned, I'd recommend this book.

Summary: Girl Power at it's Worst!
Review: This is a great original Buffy novel. This time, she and the gang are up against two new girls,Calli and Polly Moon and their mother who have just arrived in Sunnydale.Everyone seems to love them, and want to be in their gang,so much so,that all the girls start to want everything their own way, challenging all the rules that are usually in favour of all the male students of the school, encouraged by the two new girls.Things start to take a very nasty turn, when a few of the male students are found dead,in very strange circumstances.Buffy seems to be the only one who isn't under the Moons' spell.Even Giles doesn't seem to see anything strange going on,so it's up to Buffy alone to find out what they want, and how to stop them.I really enjoyed Power of Persuasion, and I think it is a great book for fans of all horror,sci-fi fiction

Summary: Fun, Fast-Paced Buffy Book!
Review: This is one of the best Buffy books out there (along with "Coyote Moon") I really enjoyed it. A new team of Buffy, Oz and Cordelia is formed to sort out the problem while the others fall to be helpless. I would have liked it a little more if the enemy didnt turn out to be what it was, but it was still great.

Summary: I am woman hear me roar!
Review: This is one woman's movement even NOW wouldn't support. When Ms Moon and her exceptional daughters move to town, the female popluation of Sunnydale take back the night, the day and anything else they can get their hands on. Boys are dying and Buffy must discover if there is an connection. The use of mythology is very good in this book. It is a change from the normal vampires and demons which gather around the hellmouth. Female fans will rejoice in the horror and humor. Male fans beware. Seriousily I recommend this book to readers of all genders.

Summary: A good book.
Review: This was the first Buffy book I read and enjoyed it. It was actually what got me interested in the show; I needed a book to read during a trip, and I bought this one because I enjoyed some of the author's non-Buffy books. Anyway, this wasn't my favorite Buffy book (that would be either Child of the Hunt or the Gatekeeper Trilogy) but it was very good anyway.

Summary: Hmmmm
Review: This whole book seemed like one big fan-fic. The author totally captured all the characters except Buffy. IT also seems kinda childish for some reason. I still haven't figured out when the book took place but other than that the story is okay.

Summary: What interesting "villians"
Review: To start off, I want to say what a great book this was!! As soon as I saw the Elizabeth Massis wrote a Buffy book, I had to buy it. I so made the right choice!! What a wonderful Buffy book! Where the "villians" came from....what a CLASSIC idea!!

Mo Moon and her daughters, Calli and Polly, are in Sunnydale and they want to spread one thing...girl power. Soon they have the will of all the girls on their side and the men are mindless idiots. It's up to our favorite slayer, OZ and cordy to save Sunnydale. Once you get into this book, it won't let you go. This is a real page tuner.

There are so many great things to this book!! Cordy's jealousy came through as halirous!! It was interesting to see her when she wasn't lil miss popular. *LOL* I also liked Xander.

The decriptions that Massie gives the reader is incredible! She is a wonderful storyteller. I highly suggest this book. If yer a fan of Buffy, or a fan of good fiction, then this book is for you.

Summary: The Buffiest Buffy
Review: Ye gods! Buffy Vs. Mount Olympus, a full year before goddess Glory challenged the Slayer for an entire season on T.V.! Power of Persuasion had to be, at least in part, the inspiration for Buffy's fifth season on the air: not only are Buffy's POP nemeses all-but-unkillable goddesses, but - like Glory - they consume the brains of men, as well.

In general, the best of the Buffy books. Unlike many others - and the T.V. series, of late - Buffy is not a bit player in her own show, in this piece. She is the star from start to finish, and has never been cleverer or more resourceful. The core group are emphasized throughout, with Angel missing and Buffy's closest friends and helpmeets subsumed, one by one, until she and (nice to see) Oz are left on their own to somehow dispatch a trio of lethal lesser Amazonian deities inadvertently summoned to Sunnydale.

The monstrous muses are, without doubt, the most unique challenge Buffy has ever faced. Her sheer brute force and fighting finesse are useless to her. The Olympian lassies merely laugh at all her efforts to defeat them, shrugging, smiling, and saying, "When you get tired of beating your head against the wall, little girl, we'll be happy to enlist you among our ranks." They don't even bother to fight back. Why should they? They can't die. They can't even be significantly injured. Against opponents that superior, what's a Slayer to do?

Along with Diana Gallagher's better efforts, Power of Persuasion is the best-written book of the series. The level of the actual writing is easy enough for the younger readers without being condescending to them at all, but sophisticated enough to satisfy adults. POP's plot is streamlined, its one suplot fully complements the main action, the dialogue is sharp, witty and spry, and, best of all, Buffy really is the star, from Frame One to Frame Last.
