Summary: How did this find a publisher ?
Review: This is, without a doubt the worst mystery I have read in recent memory. It features an unlikely plot and poorly defined characterizations wrapped in excessive description. Who really cares about the color of the drapes in her cabin(green), the color of her long underwear (green), or the color of the pants of a half dozen men standing around a cabin (also green)? The author seems to be of the school which believes that where one word will suffice, use ten. ie: "Phil's shoulders seemed to become part of his ears." could maybe be "Phil shrugged." Edited in this manner this would have been only a bad short story instead of an awful novel. I don't write a lot of reviews but in this case I felt the public should be warned.

Summary: One dimensional characters, four dimensional landscape
Review: Though it was successful in putting a chill on summer in Dallas, this must be a "guy" book. I like the map at the front of the book, I love the times of silence in the Big Woods - was very fond of Sullivan's GHOST DANCE - but this one did not really click for me. The guys I live with hunt, and perhaps it brought me a little understanding - but also reinforced my "this is a silly cave man thing to do." A little less than gripping, the self-absorbed heroine of this tale is neither very believable nor likable. Part Native American, she leaves behind her small children and equally self-absorbed hubby, to hunt white tail deer in the North Woods of Canada. (?) This has something to do with the suicide death of her estranged father. (?) Mr. Sullivan never really succeeds in crawling into the head of his female character, or breathing any life into her -- or any of the other cardboard characters. If you can accept the mystical, enjoy blood sport, and lots of murderous terror inspiring plotting, perhaps you will enjoy the book. For me it was simply tolerable.
