Summary: sweetest love story in a long time !
Review: I bought this book while on vacation in washington D.C. although I am a straight female, I read whatever catches my eye. I read this book in less thn 24 hours and read it again. The author has created characters that the reader feels for and cares about. This is one of the sweetest, most touching love stories I've ever read.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: A big disapointment
Review: I had high hopes for this book, but I was very disappointed. The story itself was not a bad one - but there really didn't seem to be a need for the main character to be vampire - other than to increase the erotic vein of the story. Borrow it - don't buy it.

Summary: A Great love story of a Vampire
Review: I have read all the Annie Rice Vampire Chronicle and enjoyed them all, but with Desmond You actully see another side of vampires that you never see or here about. I love the passion he has for Tony and Roger, and how Desmond takes you back in time to see the world through his eye's. I have recmmend this book to all of my friends. I loved this book!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Romance that happens to star a vampire- not a bad thing
Review: I simply believe that one who likes vampires should read this book. I have read all of Anne Rice's Vampire novels, and other gothic books as well. This is was another fun read. I believed in Desmond's true kind-heartedness. I thought it was interesting how Dietz doesn't make the vampire's victims die when they are taken the life out of them. It is refreshing to view another's point of view in terms of vampires and the like. If anybody is into homoerotica and vampires, then this book is for you!

Summary: Very good, and very lacking at the same time.
Review: I think that Mr. Dietz has done quite well for a first novel. His innovative take on the habits, necessities and psyche of a 250-year old vampire are quite a relief from Ms. Rice's work. I found this book, however, very uneven. In one chapter I'd marvel at the new ideas he'd applied to the vampiric life; in other chapters the repartee between Desmond and Tony was just too saccharine sweet. Eeeuw.

I encourage Mr. Deitz to follow up this novel with another story about Desmond. One thing that gave me great pleasure is that each chapter in Desmond's history was colorfully, but *succinctly* told. He did not string out the tale for books upon books upon books like other vampire story tellers (who shall remain nameless) have done.

Lastly, even though this is a mixed review, I would encourage vampire story lovers to read it. My bottom line is that I enjoyed myself most of the time.

Summary: A good book overall but a disappointing ending.
Review: I think this was a very good first book from the author. I believe he did a great job blending the protagonist's past and present together in a very readable style. I was horribly disappointed with the ending, however. Bittersweet, to say the least. Sort of a 250-year-long "Well of Loneliness." How about a happy ending, fella? Still, a good read. There are too few gay gothic romances about, and this book fits nicely in the genre.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very Interesting
Review: I thought the book was well written for this type of book I have read. I believe it shows how life is so precious to everyone including Desmond in the book. I wish they would have more books like this one in the near future.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Story, but not really in the Vampire Genre
Review: I thought this book was a great read. However, it's really more of a gothic romance type book than vampire novel.

Desmond is a "good" vampire. while some vampire purists may balk at the concept, you have to realize that the fact that Desmond is a vampire isreally little more than a plot device. The book is really a tragic romance novel.

I look forward to a sequel, but hope that if one is written, the author takes a little more time to focus on things like the vampire physiology in his universe. He throws out a lot of the conventional vampire weaknesses, but never goes into much depth on how they actually work. Likewise, the concept of vampires having "life cycles" is a fascinating idea, but needs more in-depth explanation.
