Summary: An amatuerish execution of a great idea...
Review: I bought this book for two reasons: 1) it was only $4 on a bargain shelf in a bookstore, 2) the premise intrigued me. I, like other reviewers of this book, was ready for a fresh take on vampirism. And I got it.Unfortunately, I had to weed through pages and pages of cliche, nonsense, and over-romantic, unnecessary description to get that fresh take. The book started out boring, just a guy in his bedroom drinking a "mysterious" liquid from a Clamato jar. (Incidentally, I don't know why all the mystery about the blood in the first chapter. Anybody who buys this book knows it's about vampires.) Then, after countless monotonous pages of character development--including characters who are already dead when the novel begins and only appear in flashback!--the story finally begins to evolve in the LAST QUARTER OF THE BOOK. Why Nasaw makes the reader wait until that late in the novel to unveil the plot--not just the conflict, but the PLOT--is beyond me. And frankly, the conclusion was unsatisfactory. I thought the protagonist and the antagonist (I never could quite tell them apart) got along far too well throughout the book to make their conflict seem very believable, and the surprise at the end is neither surprising nor much of an end. The devices were too obvious, the writing too sloppy and unrevised, and the concept too good to allow such mistakes. My only consolation in reading this book is that, with the proper connections, I actually have a shot at publishing myself. I mean, if Nasaw can do it, anybody can. I only hope that if I end up on the $4-bargain shelf, my readers will think they actually got a bargain. I didn't.

Summary: Deliciously sexy
Review: I first read this book 2 years ago, I found it amaxing then and I still do b/c I've read it numerous times since then. This is a wonderfully written book that makes me drool everytime I read it. If this book doesn't turn you on, you're insane. I found it wildly entertaining. Jonathan Nasaw sure does know a lot about drugs though, which I find quite refreshing, since older people (not implying he's old or anything!) nowadays have such a narrow-minded view of drugs. It's an awesome novel!

Review: I read THE WORLD ON BLOOD to take a break from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. The chronicles are great but I loved Nasaw's take on vampires. The book was full of vivid details of drug highs and sexual adventures. It was definitely very sensual. Nasaw made the world of vampires and witches actually conceivable. Go ahead and read the summary if you wanna know what the book was about. This is just my 2cents and I HIGHLY recommend this book, especially for all the drug admirers, sex addicts, and vampire/witch lover in all of us...

Although it portrays the blood lust as an addiction,it shows that not everyone can 'believe' in one thing and needs to find their own way to 'deal' with their addiction rather than a '12 step-ford (wives)' approach. I am an Ann Rice addict and was surprised to find Nasaw's book to quench my thirst as well.

Summary: Sex and Blood...what more could you possibly want?
Review: I'll be blunt, i liked this book for the following reasons: lots o' blood, no big angsty loser woe is me Lestat-esque vamps, no immortal mindreading bloodsucking fiends, orgies like every third page, easy to read, and has a level of believability (is that a word?). It was a refreshing twist on the vampire myth, and certainly a more believable one at that. This book is compared to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, but they're -extremely- different and I see no means for comparison. But mind you, I personally prefered The World on Blood to Rice's work that i've read (i've been stuck in the middle of Queen of the Damned for about a year now). *shrugs*

Summary: This book will leave you wanting more.
Review: Jonathan Nasaw shows vampires in a light they have never been seen in before. The vampires in his world are more realistic than ever. Nasaw shows the true meaning of addiction. This book has some of the best written characters. The story of Nick and Whistler will captivate anyone. I don't think I have ever found a more perfect love than Lourdes and Whistler. I could not put it down. Nasaw is extremely successful in portraying vampires in their naturally enchanting way. His scenes are very descriptive and provative. Some of the party scenes even made me blush. Never before have vampires appeared sexier or more alluring. It made me want to go out and drink blood. Althought this book is not for the faint of heart, I would definately recommend it to anyone who wants to experience something new and enchanting. It will leave you wanting more. This is without a doubt the best vampire novel I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

Summary: A book about addicts
Review: This book is really about addicts. The main difference being instead of getting high on alchol or drugs - they get high on blood. In the beginning of the book some of the "vampires" are trying to give up blood in an AA type arrangement. They self destruct from within and from there on it's all down hill. I found this a depressing book full of very self indulgent characters. In the end I didn't really care what happened to them. Let them overdose on blood and make the world a better place. Nasty I know, but that's the effect this book had on me. It gets 2 stars for an original idea, but I wouldn't read any more about these people again given the choice.
