Rating: Summary: A Fine Book For The Cannon Of Good Books (World Lit term) Review: I don't care what anyone say's about "THE OATH," because I think it was a great book. I have the book "Door In The Dragons Troht," but I don't remember reading it. I love to read and to pick up a book and find it hard to put down is a great thrill. This book should be in the cannon and have to be read in school. I love my world lit. class b/c all we do isn read and then take a test after the 3rd or 4th book. To be able to read something u have to become a charter in the book. Become part of the story. For me being a female u would think that I would become a female charter but that not being so becuse in this book I was Steve Benson at one point and Tracy Ellis the next. I mean it where else could u be one or more people and not be considered crazy but in a book. And one of the best books to be that way would be "The Oath." Learn how to put yourself into someone else's shoes and to become another person. Start today with a book, any book. It could be any kind of book that u want just start as soon as u can. For me it is all books that I can get past the 1st 2 pages of it. I urge u to start. Now I am not good on writing stuff, but I am sure someone out there knows what I am talking about. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your day by becoming someone else and lost in your own little world.
Rating: Summary: The Oath...hard to put down! Review: I have to admit, I'm not much into Sci-Fi, which I think this book definately borders on - however, I believe deep thot and a lot of time went into this book. An avid reader, I quite often put a book down because it drags, and causes loss of interest, NOT so with this one! Christian in nature, but earthly just the same, we can all put ourselves somewhere in the book, like looking in a mirror, and discover what may be hidden in our own hearts! D. Kelly-Carter, Surry VA
Rating: Summary: The Oath Review: I had never read any Christian fantasy books before. The characters were fantastic. The Christian undertones shown through the entire book. Peretti did a wonderful job exploring good and evil. It really got me thinking. My teenager is getting the audio book for Christmas, instead of Harry Potter. If his new books (series in place of Harry Potter) are anything like this one, they will be fantastic. We don't have them available where I live yet. Thanks hope you enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: The Oath was a big disappointment compared to Peretti's early works. As I was reading this book I got the feeling that the author had made a big success in the "Darkness" books and then got lazy. The characters just fall short of being real heroes or villians, the action too forced. It isn't that this book isn't interesting, nor did I fail to finish reading it, I was just expecting much more. On the plus side, I got my son (13 at the time) to read it and he loved it (it's hard to even get him to read non school stuff so this was a blessing indeed). I think for what it is, it's ok, but if you're expecting something on par with what Peretti did ten years early, sorry.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, Dramatic, and Gripping! Review: The Oath is one of Peretti's greatest books and definitely worth reading. This is one of the best books I've ever read! I liked it so much I've read it three times. Don't let the size of it scare you, it's well worth the time. Peretti keeps the plot exciting and full of thrill and suspense. I got so wrapped up in it that my cat scared me to death! I've told all of my friends about it and many of them read it and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The Oath led me to some of Peretti's other great books such as The Prophet and The Visitation. Both of which I enjoyed as well.
Rating: Summary: Not Peretti's Best Review: I have read all of Frank Peretti's books, including The Wounded Spirit, and I have to say that I was kind of disappointed with this one. It has a much more secular feel to it than the even The Visitiation and immeasurably more so than the "Darkness" series. Maybe my strictly conservative upbringing is showing through here, but this book seemed very far fetched to me. I loved the "Darkness" series, and even found them to be Biblically sound. This book in my opinion reached a little far with the origin of the dragon. Definitely no Biblical example of such a thing happening. As a thriller, I guess it's okay, but much more secular than his other books.
Rating: Summary: One to avoid Review: I have thoroughly enjoyed most of Peretti's books. However, I consider this one one to avoid. Believers who have read his other works are likely to be disappointed by this one.The plot of the story starts out sensibly enough, but by the end of the book the reader is left with the sense that he's wasted time reading the first half. The ending, and the portion leading up to it, is too fanciful and off-the-wall. One other peeve I had with "The Oath" is that it brings in a sexual scene that, while certainly very, very tame compared to what the world is used to reading, nontheless has no place in Christian Literature. It could have just as easily been left out. I very rarely throw away books after I read them. This is one I did.
Rating: Summary: Finished in 9 hours and had to get up 3 hrs later for school Review: All I can say about this book is that: Frank Peretti has done it again. I've loved his books ever since This Present Darkness and he's never let me down (except for the middle of This Present Darkness). I love the way he gave sin a tangible, yet intangible quality and used the dragon's death to symbolize the power that Jesus has over sin. I strongly recommend this book to anyone - it is very real for this time period even though it is a Christian novel, and handles real-world situations effortlessly with nothing necessary left to the imagination. God bless you Mr. Peretti!
Rating: Summary: too simplistic for belief Review: This novel needs about three revisions. The real story concerns the people who live in the town. Their interactions and relationships have created evil. Evil is not an outside force (the dragon); it is the selfishness of the individuals who want glory or power or money for themselves. Only Levi, whom many consider unbalanced, holds respect for humanity in his heart. If the author had bothered to make his characters more three dimensional and if had the talent to depict their personalities and actions upon each other, this might be a good book. As it stands, it is simplistic and unconvincing.
Rating: Summary: Is this book by Stephen King? Review: The first 300 pages of this book could have been written by Stephen King, master of horror novels. It's the first of Peretti's I've read, and I'm definitely going to read more. It was a page-turner from the very beginning. But then, just when evil starts to win, the saving power of Jesus Christ comes into play. King only hints at the existence of God in his stories of good vs. evil (e.g. The Stand, The Green Mile...). Peretti puts it right out front where you can't miss the message. My 18 y.o. daughter read the book (which itself is incredible), and recommended it to me. A great book!
