Summary: Peretti scores again!
Review: In the tradition of the "Darkness" novels, Frank Peretti weaves a spellbinding tale that is virtually impossible to put down. Using ingredients such as greed, deception, and adultery, "The Oath" proves to us that no one is immune to sin. Expect the unexpected as you wind your way through the twists and turns of this wonderful plot. Recommended to anyone who loves a little suspense

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A Christian attempt to crossover to a mainstream market.
Review: Frank Peretti is trying to walk a very fine line; he wants to keep his Christian fans happy while appealing to Stephen King readers. The result is somewhat disappointing to both sides.

Christians looking for the explicit Christian content of Peretti's previous novels won't find much of it here, since the story is seen through the non-Christian protagonist's eyes, rather than via the perspective of heavenly angels, as in This Present Darkness. Peretti seems to be attempting an allegory, but the connections are weak and easily seen through by any discerning reader.

On the other hand, secular horror and thriller readers won't be very impressed by this book. There isn't enough action or blood to keep continual interest (though probably more than enough to offend the Christian readers) and the moralizing at the end comes across pretty heavy handed, probably enough to turn off the average Stephen King fan to all future Peretti attempts.

The question this book leaves for the Christian reader and author is this: What kind of books should Christians write for a non-Christian audience? Should they attempt to convert and moralize? Or should they simply tell good stories with a theistic worldview? The attempt to do both doesn't do either objective justice.

Summary: Good book, but would be better as a movie
Review: Peretti has written another gripping story, but it lacks the character depth that would make this an excellent novel. The writing is fast paced and works well as a good mystery/thriller, but the story would work better as a movie than a full novel. However, it is a great story and definitely worth reading

Summary: Don't be fooled.
Review: After reading all of Peretti's previous books, this one threw me a little. As a matter of fact, if I did not know who Peretti was, I would have put the book down and not finished reading it. The book does not seem like a Christian novel at all except at the very end. There is one part in particular that I am talking about and when you get to it, don't be discusted because it is a necessary part. Keep reading!!! You'll be glad you did; I was

Summary: Loved It
Review: I liked this book so much I have decided to do my research paper on it. The way Peretti discribed the bondage of sin was execlent! God Bless

Summary: A book that truly captivated my interest.
Review: This novel was wonderfully written, and has captivated my interest like very few ever have. It was not only suspenseful, but intriguing. The writing was powerful, and brought the characters to life. The setting was spectacularly set, and the figurative expressions cleverly cloaked until the climaxing of the story. This book is a definite 'must read', and is a book that will fascinate and enthrall anyone who reads it. Veronica Copeland (vlc@flinet.com)

Summary: It was a exciting book that I didn't want to put down.
Review: The Oath is a novel about the effects sin can have on a community. It was very well written and had an excellent plot and moral. It was the most exciting book I have read in a long time. A must-read for anyone older than 12 and a book-worm

Summary: Very Powerful!!
Review: This book is another great one from Frank Peretti, he continues with his classic style of mystery and terror that we all can identify with. The story of Steve Benson and the small town in which he find himself, makes you feel as if you need to put the book down several times and hit your knees. Very well written and excellent visual imagery!!

Summary: Excellent thriller.
Review: The story line of the book is deceptively simple. A small town, a well-kept secret, a murder with a mystery The author expertly draws the reader into the lives of the people who have all live by "The Oath". Although written by a Christian, this book has angered some Christians who would have us see everything in black and white terms. The hero is weak, and at times indecisive. However, he eventually overcomes even his own weaknesses, and follows the advice of the town luney who in the end is the only truly sane man in town. This book is highly recommended to readers of Stephen King or any of the more popular horror/suspense novelists.

Summary: An exilerating adventure with an important moral lesson.
Review: This is another excelent work from Frank Peretti. While different from his other tales it is no less stirring. Peretti delves into the world of personal sin and the affects on the human heart. He uses profound insight into giving us a moral tale about the affects of sin. The Dragon is the destruction of characters of the book while sin is the destruction of our heart. While we all sin, the only protection we have is to care about it- to not quit striving for what is right. I would recomed this book to anyone. It teaches us a valuable lesson about sin, while entertaining us with a classic Peretti tale of the struggle of good against evil. ANOTHER MUST READ!
