Rating: Summary: An Excellent portrayal of the reality of sin Review: This was one of those books that I couldn't put down. While it isn't the same style of previous Peretti books, I liked the change. I return to read the book annually. To those who don't think its "spiritually uplifting," that's because the book deals with the harsh realities and consequences of sin. This book is a must read, for both Christians and non-Christians.
Rating: Summary: We need to take a stand against evil Review: This book showed me how important it is to be a christian and have a close walk with God, so when we're scared to death we can bravely take a stand against whatever God throws at us, not just in the form of dragons and other physical beings, but in our everyday lives, like temptation and other difficult situations. I found this book to be very well written. It was descriptive, the suspense was great and drawn out so it completely captures the reader's attention, and it showed the story from a non-christian's point of view, a scientist, who gives all the scientific aspects, while slowly realising that he needs God, not some scientific apparatus or plan to defend himself against the monster in this book. The POWER OF GOD is underestimated by many people, and this book proves what an amazing thing it is to be in the shelter of God's love and protection.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly gripping novel that carries a wonderful message. Review: In today's society where pleasure and self reliance are placed above God and ethics, Frank Peretti brings us a story that is powerfully written and carries a strong message of the destructive nature of sin. The Oath is a book that will cause you to reflect on your daily life. A captivating storyline and Peretti's writing style allow this book to be a pleasurable read.
Rating: Summary: The Darkness of Indifference Review: I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It certainly kept my interest (I read it cover to cover in about a weeks time). However, I couldn't get past the thought that this book reminded me of a script for "Predator" that was rejected. The "living sin" was a nice concept, but was too much like the creature in Predator for me to consider it original. The conversion of the non-believing main character comes too late in the story and isn't very believeable. Mind you, I realize that everyone receives salvation differently. My experience will differ from thousands of others, however, from a general perspective this was not very realistic. It felt more like an after thought. All that being said though, I did enjoy it for the most part. It's a good, fast paced read.
Rating: Summary: Terrifying...spellbinding...convicting... Review: Peretti's mastery of vivid description, combined with his ability to assault the human imagination has yielded a spine tingling thriller whose quality rivals the works of even the best secular authors.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: The Oath is probably Peretti's best work to date. Fans of Peretti's other books will enjoy it, as will any fan of Horror. The fact that it is a "Christian" book shouldn't deter anyone from reading it.
Rating: Summary: A terrific and gripping thriller with extreme suspense. Review: The Oath begins with a terrifying first attack on two campers in the woods just outside the small mining town of Hyde Valley in the Pacific Northwest. One of the victim's brother-in-law travels down to the town to find out what happened. And you can hardly breathe when he and Sherrif's Deputy Tracy Ellis decide to open their own investigation of what happened. And if it wasn't a bear, then what killed them? What they soon discover is a ferocious dragon, sent by the devil himself, to consume this tiny town. This forces the two to confront the full force of evil. This book simply is the best book I've ever read! READ IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
Rating: Summary: Great fiction, as well as an allegory of inner struggles. Review: I couldn't put this book down! The intricate plot, the hint of mystery that made you think "Just one more chapter, then I'll put it down," I finished it in only two days, don't pass this one up. Peretti's use of the dragon as sin, the fear it produces, and the lengths people will take to hide it, was astounding. The inner struggles Steve needed to face are similar to those many of us go through. I've never read anything like it. I got so attached to the characters, I actually found myself cheering Steve on near the end. A must read for the fiction, if not for the deeper meaning as well.
Rating: Summary: An awesome book!!! The best I have ever read. Review: O.K. So the Oath is the best book on the face of the earth. I am 14 years old and I have read it 3 times. This book is EXCELLENT!! There is no other way to describe it. Ya see, it's about this professor from the University of Colorado, Steve Benson, who's brother is killed by "something" near the town of Hyde River. The local sheriff says it was a bear, but once Steve talks to the town hermit, he begins to have doubts. What follows next is hard to explain, and is best described as a fast-paced, rumble-tumble adventure as Steve tracks the evil creature. But the town moneybags, a guy named Harold Bly doesn't want Steve to find the beast. In the middle of all this, Steve accepts Christ as his Saviour. But the show ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, and Steve still has to have the ultimate showdown, where he faces both Bly and the monster. This book is, by far, the best book I have ever read. I give it 10/10
Rating: Summary: Definitely on my Top 10 List Review: "The Oath" is a spiritual metaphor that is represented so vividly, the book can not be closed. This book is more suitable for a mature christian but can be enjoyed by anyone. Dramatic overtones, tense scenes, edge-of-your seat reading. Will never go out of style!
