Rating: Summary: Frank Peretti is an Outstanding writer Review: This book was really excellent to me. Since read this one I had to buy all the rest of his books. That's how interesting this book was. The way the dragon is described as sin in the hearts of these people is so close to them made me want to realize my own faith. In some parts of the book the characters are so hard to understand because their sin has taken over them as human beings but their behavior is likely because they are too scared and are not afraid. I really loved the epilogue because it took you straight to your own heart. Never let this dragon out of it's cage again or you won't be able to get away from it.
Rating: Summary: Awsome book that can pierce you right in the heart! Review: This book was a great read. It was one that I couldn't put down because of Peretti's chilling detail and strange happening. It shows the power of sin and the effects and hurt it causes. I would recomend this read to anyone. I do agree with a previous reader the it should not be read by children, but I'm not convinced that they would want to read the 550 page book and the main reason it's not an easy book to understand. Buy this one.
Rating: Summary: Great + Spellbinding So Far! Review: I just got this book in my school library and I'm almost done! I can't stop reading this book. I even took it to a baseball game and read it. Even the first few pages make you want to keep on reading. I plan on reading "This Present Darkness", "The Prophet" and some more Peretti books.
Rating: Summary: This book keeps you on the edge anticipating what's to come. Review: I have read "This Present Darkness, Prophet and now The Oath" all of which I give a 5 star rating. Peretti knows how to keep one thinking of how Satan works in our lives. His books are thrilling and, although fiction, the story becomes very real as it is read. He keeps the reader on the edge from the beginning to the very end of the story. Anticipation and excitement grow with the turning of every page. I have now ordered "The Presence of Darkness" which I believe is his last adult book. I hope he doesn't stop writing. I will look forward to his next novel.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother, this book is a total waste of time. Review: Peretti should have spent his time working at a soup kitchen rather than writing this book. He attempts to coorilate the damage of sin in ones life to that of a powerful dragon. He fails. He gets too graphic in the "sin" a man and women commit with each other. He fails to make a clear conection between sin and the dragon. His other books are nothing like this one. If you liked This Present Darkness and Peircing the Darkness you should PASS on this one. On the other hand if all you like are satanic stories of the likes of Stephen King, you may enjoy this one. Do NOT let children read this book.
Rating: Summary: "The Oath" is a very exciting book. Review: I read "The Oath" by Frank Peretti and thought it was an excellent book. I have never been much for reading, but the book really kept my interests peaked. Now that I have discovered "Christian Fiction" I am going keep reading. "The Oath although it is fiction deals with issues that are very real, such as sin and grace and people looking at themselves for who and what they are with and without Christ. It is a great book and I hope others will enjoy it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book! Review: Peretti has some great books. I enjoyed this one a lot. The dragon really demonstrates what sin does to a person's life. It really does destroy everything, but there is hope in Christ Jesus. Get the book and read it, you'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Christian Novel Review: This was the best Frank Peretti novel yet! It was so terrifying in parts that I couldn't put it down. It shows the truth about sin and guilt and how it will destroy you unless you repent. Also I would like to suggest another author for all you Frank Peretti lovers. I just read a book called "Dominion" by Randy Alcorn. His novel is a lot like the Peretti novels, this one showing his vision of life in Heaven.
Rating: Summary: A good read, but Peretti abandoned what made him great Review: The Oath kept my attention, it was entertaining, but if I did not know this was a "Christian" book, I certainly would never figure it out from reading Peretti's watered down semi-christian monster story. In his earlier work, this author wrote books with a strong spritual theme. In "The Oath" it seems almost like he was adding the luke warm quasi-Christianity out of a sense of obligation. Compare if you will the scene out of "Piercing the Darkness" in which a woman is saved. She repents wholeheartedly, calls upon Jesus, and all of Heaven rejoices. There is no doubt of what happened. In "The Oath" it is hard to tell what happened to the main character, spiritually speaking. Bottom line is that it is obvious that in order to appeal to a larger crowd, Frank Peretti has sold out by watering down any possible "offensive" or strong Christian doctrine.
Rating: Summary: Don't Play with Sin Review: I've decided to read this book because of my trust in Peretti's good work, feeling that a story about a dragon was hard to get, though. However, I've finished reading this book with a strong message from God. We cannot allow ourselves to play with such a dreadful thing as sin. It begins small, almost unnoticed, you think you can control it, but then it is the sin that controls and slaves you until it finally finishes with your life. This book is the best work of Peretti so far, really inspired by the Holy Ghost and I praise the Lord for Peretti's life and for having the chance to read such a book.
