Rating: Summary: Shame on Peretti, a tragic excuse for literature. Review: In his first two books Peretti established himself as the definintive voice of fascinating, Christain literature. His characters were colorful, powerful images that created lasting moments for the reader. In The Oath, he has turned his back completley on reality, forcing the reader to swallow the largest stretch of his imagination.Centered around a dragon that embodies sin and its powerful grasp on the modern man, one can only guess at what led Peretti down this path. Having lost the guidance of his brillant angels, this plot drags as slowly as the ooze from the chests of the dragon's victims. Please skip this book and read his other classics. Easily one of the worst I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: This book keeps you on the edge. Review: This book is about a bunce of murders and a killer spirit that is hovering over a small town but, no one knows it is a spirit. It all begins with a murder. A man named Cliff Benson is found dead in a forest(well, at least half of him.). A girl that was with him witnessed the whole thing but, she was too delirious to tell anyone. Cliff's brother, Steve starts to investigate the murder. Meanwhile, he meets many people who tell him about the "thing". They say that there has been more than one murder resently and they advise Steve to leave the creature alone. Of course Steve doesn't leave it alone; He wants to solve the mystery of his brother's death. Later on in the book, Steve gets a close incounter with the killer while looking for it in a cave. The spirit almost kills him but, Steve is saved by a Christian friend named Levi. Steve still doesn't give up. A few murders later, Steve finds the spirit again and this time brings it back to town. There, he lures the spirit to a lance and the lance pierced its heart. So finally, the spirit was dead.
Rating: Summary: One Of Peretti's Best Review: I have been reading Peretti's books since I was younger and started with the Cooper Kid's adventures. This is definately a hardcore Christian thriller. I lent it to a friend who says she is a christian and she couldn't read the whole book, it scared her too much. This is a wonderful thriller and I would recommend it to anyone with a strong stomach. Peretti brings out possibilities of darkness that no one could even imagine. The reassurance is there though that Good triumphs over evil.
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down. Review: Frank Peretti kept the action and the excitement going at all times. This is by far one of the best thrillers I have ever read. I can not wait to read more of his work.
Rating: Summary: A book with a powerful message that will blow you away! Review: This book was quite a departure from his other books and took me a while to get into, but by about half way through I could not put it down. At the end of the book when the full impact of the message came through, I was blown away. I don't know of another book that has had such an impact on me. This book is really an allegory about our inability to control sin even when we think we are in control. Peretti chose such a unique way to tell this tale of the devastation of sin run amock. It is hard to read this book and not be rocked to the foundation of your beliefs by its powerful message.
Rating: Summary: Very Good - Peretti Knows What He's Doing Review: The Oath is a really good book. It is about a wildlife biologist who's brother is ripped in half on a camping trip and wants to find out happened. He soon finds out that the creature is stalking him also.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Superbly written suspense tale. The plot was captivating and cleverly developed. As always, Frank Peretti takes his readers through an imaginative journey of words. It was refreshing to read such a good story without the dialogue being a list of foul words repetitively used by every character while hoping from bed to bed. Peretti is a gifted story teller who is able to hook his readers without those tactics. I recommend it to anyone who wants a good story.
Rating: Summary: Might have enjoyed it more when I was 12 Review: This book was recommended to me by someone online and I bought it without reading any reviews. As I now see in reading others' reviews, there is a large audience for this type of evangelical Christian "message" in what is essentially a book for younger readers. I might have enjoyed it more when I was about 12.
Rating: Summary: This book kept you on the edge of your seat! Review: I have read everyone of the books that Peretti has written and this one have got to be, by far, the best yet. His description of the beast is incredible! The way he painted the pictures for us to follow were elaborate. I could not put the book down!
Rating: Summary: A powerful analogy of how sin can control our lives! Review: I am only fifteen but I've read almost every other Peretti novel and in my opinion this is his best book ever! The way he "paints" the story with words is amazing and the message behind the plot and the analogy of the dragon really makes you think about your own life. If you haven't read this book, READ IT, and if you have, read it again!
