Rating: Summary: maybe book burnings aren't so bad afterall Review:
Buffy didn't move to Sunnydale until half way through the school year.
Therefore, she was still living in Los Angeles at the time this book supposedly took place.
Glaring continuity problems seem to plague all the Buffy books. The fact that the authors aren't given permission to advance the storyline of the show in any meaningful way make the books the equivalent of really boring filler episodes of the show. Only the books aren't as well-written and Sarah Michelle Gellar isn't around to salvage the tripe.
Reading the authors attempts at dialogue is funny (laughing at them funny) at first, but then it just gets painful. The book reads like overly earnest fan fiction and all the characters become insufferable because of their sappiness and led balloon one-liners.
I don't know Nancy Holder and Christopher Golden personally, but reading this filled me with a strong dislike and sense of pity for both of them.
Rating: Summary: missing the funny bite (intended) Review: although the story was quite scary, I was missing the humor present in other books.
Rating: Summary: Definitely the scariest Review: Although this is not the best one of the series, it is definitely the scariest one. The story is about Samhain, or the Pumpkin King. One rainy Halloween in Sunnydale and the Pumpkin King, in the form of a scarecrow will come to life. Though the story is pretty slow, Angel isn't even in this book and it lacks of the Buffy's witty banter, it's still a great read coz it's very well written. Samhain himself is a wicked villain, he really gives me the creeps when I picture him. I recommend this book to all Buffy's die-hard fan. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Read Halloween Rain... Review: Attention fans of the Slayer. The book has a cool villain and loved I what Willow and Xander went dressed as for Halloween (it's a surprise)! :) The book was funny and exiting but sometimes the writers didn't stay true to the characters and the action lagged. But if you love Buffy, read/buy this book.

Rating: Summary: ~*~*~*~*HALLOWEEN RAIN*~*~*~*~ Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Halloween Rain by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder is based on the hit television series created by Joss Whedon. This book has to deal with an audacious girl who is the slayer. She has to fight and stop the forces of the malevolent evil. She also most stop and kill the spread of vampires. I really admired and enjoyed this book. Once I saw the television show I quickly started to read the stories that were associated with it. I am known as an obsequious fan. While I was reading the book the action in it made me read more, and it was hard to put the book down. While I was reading the book, it had a very strong, powerful tone with a much fear. The book also involves with friendship, horror, courage, and a girl who has a deep and dark secret who must conquer her fears. If you like monster books, monster movies, horror, gory movies, action, friendship, and have seen the show, this book and the others in the sequel are just for you.
Rating: Summary: This is our trick-or-treat for Buffy. Review: Christopher Golden and I really enjoyed writing Halloween Rain.As soon as the show aired, we knew we wanted to write Buffy books as a team. With this, our first Buffy novel, we tried to capture the flavor of the show as well as highlight what we feel makes Buffy special. We are very protective of Joss Whedon's vision, and we hope we've written a good story that reflects his intentions. We did our research in the Watchers' Diaries themselves and then tweaked what we discovered in order to present a hopefully new twist on an ancient theme -- Samhain -- and the spirit of Halloween itself.
Rating: Summary: Halloween Rain Review: Halloween Rain is a very cool book. When I was reading it I couldn't put it down for a minute!
Rating: Summary: Jhaeman's Reviews Review: HALLOWEEN RAIN Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder (1997) RATING: 3/5 Stakes SETTING: First Season CAST APPEARANCES: Buffy, Giles, Xander, Willow, Cordelia, Joyce, Aphrodesia MAJOR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS: Samhain (Pumpkin King); Glenn O'Leary (town nutcase); Claire Bellamy (Bronze manager); Nick Daniels (Bronze assistant manager) BACK-OF-THE-BOOK SUMMARY "Around Sunnydale, they say a scarecrow saturated with Halloween rain will come alive and slaughter anyone in sight. (Lovely place, Sunnydale.) Buffy's best friends, Xander and Willow, used to think the tale was nonsense-but after a few adventures with Buffy, they're not so sure. Even without a maniacal scarecrow, a Sunnydale Halloween is a truly horrific happening. There are enough zombies and vampires about, ready to party hearty and eat some brains, to keep the Slayer and her friends up all night. And then the rain starts to fall . . ." REVIEW The first original Buffy novel sticks closely to the style of early first season episodes. All the basic elements are here: a fight against vampires near the Bronze; Giles in full research mode at the library; patrols and battles at a cemetery, etc. The main plot of Halloween Rain is the emergence of Samhain, the Pumpkin King, a powerful demon that inhabits the body of a scarecrow on Halloween. After disrupting a vampire attack in the basement of the Bronze, Buffy learns of Samhain's existence from Sunnydale's resident madman, Glenn O'Leary. She ends up near a cemetery when legions of zombies attack, and manages to escape them only by running into a cornfield-and there, of course, Samhain makes his move. The novel is clearly written with a young adult audience in mind, as it's slim and straightforward. Most of the characters are written well, but without the witty dialogue of the television show. Some good moments include a Halloween party with Xander as Indiana Jones, Willow as the X-Files' Scully, and Buffy as a pirate; Giles telling of the 17th Century Irish Slayer Erin Randall; and a scene where Samhain manages to scare Buffy almost to death. Overall, Halloween Rain is a simple but solid Buffy novel, more of interest now for its nostalgia appeal than for anything else, though it would serve as a good introduction for adolescents unfamiliar with the Buffyverse
