Summary: Weirdness in West Virginia (almost Heaven)
Review: David Martin treads on the gory turf of writers like Richard Laymon and Rex Miller with his mid-90's book entitled "Bring Me Children". It is a moderately interesting tale about a number of misguided characters. A variety of personalities are introduced stretching from a TV anchorman searching for his lost "touch" to a doctor who's once honorable intentions have turned horribly wrong to a woman trying to regain what's left of her pride and dignity.

This is not a book for the faint of heart. It has many scenes containing gratuitous violence and sex. It's even hard to root for any of the characters because of their many flaws and foibles. Some are really dispicable! (How about a 500-pound deputy sheriff who as warped as last year's plywood?) Perhaps the most honorable individual is the most misunderstood person of all - the dwarf who lives in the woods.

Sounds bizarre? It definitely is! I can't say that I disliked the book because it was action-filled. It's just that it was so uneven and predictable in places, especially in the final scene. But, don't take my word for it. If you like strange stories, with a LOT of strange people, you'll probably really "go" for this tale.

For a better effort by David Martin, however, I enthusiastically recommend his book, "Tap, Tap".

Summary: Good...but Lie to Me kicks this one around like nothing
Review: Good read, but i wouldn't call this "Horror". In the book, there are few deaths, and only one of them is scary. The sexual scenes really get to be too much at times, but you get used to it in Martin's novels. Nice, short read...but nothing more sadly. If you want something great, read Lie to Me.

Summary: disappointment
Review: I bought this book after reading the reviews here. I was greatly disappointed.
It just wasn't scary. Sure, it had a lot of "twisted" characters, but none were too well imagined. A blind doctor who wants to gouge out people's eyes with a spoon, a black woman who practices voodoo, a fat cop who's kind of dumb. Nothing that original.
The gore was kept to a minimum, although one scene at towards the end attempted to make up for the relatively bloodless book. It didn't work. There were a couple of gratuitous sex scenes though. Probably the most descriptive sex scenes I've ever read in a book. I just found them exploitative and pointless.
David Martin doesn't have a true writer's flair either. His words often fall flat. There is no beauty or style to his prose.
Avoid this book.

Summary: Bring me a stiff drink !
Review: If this were ever made into a film it would be the scariest film ever with one of Hollywoods all time villians.
John Lyon is an unemotional newsreader who breaks down on prime time whilst reading a story about dying children.
He is then visited by an old women who tells him to investigate Mason Quindell and to find out about the truth about missing babies. Lyon rents a cabin where he meets some of the strangest twisted sadistic people ever to grace the pages of a novel. Martin has the knack of painting very vivid characters, and some really brutal and erotic scenarios. The book has characters rather than heroes and the reader is carried along at a frenetic pace.

Summary: What a ride!
Review: John Lyons was an untouchable news anchor until he breaks down in a fit of sobbing on live national television. Now John has to redeem his image, following a strange story of abducted children in a quiet West Virginia town. He quickly runs into a blind doctor that is on the unusual side and finds out more than he ever wanted to know. A great read for those who enjoy their suspense and gore. Martin takes it to the limit in this novel. Very dark.

Summary: Heart-Thumping Horror!
Review: This novel features: a blind doctor who is completely mad and sadistic; a washed-up reporter in turmoil; an exotically beautiful girl. There are depraved games of torture, and perverse eroticism.

I was reading this book late one night when, just as I got into a scene with the mad doctor mutilating one of his victims, I was startled by a loud noise on the roof. I actually jumped, and my heart thumped. It was a possum running around up there. Even though I knew what it was I had trouble shaking the fear. This is the first book which has affected me so powerfully.

I loved that sensation, and kept on reading right through the night until I had finished the book. David Martin is a master of suspense!

Summary: Only 100 Pages through, but OH MY GOD!!!!!
Review: Well, as the title suggests, I am only just under 100 pages through this book, and I am utterly awe-struck by the whole affair.
This books out-grosses anything that any other horror author I have ever read has(and probably ever WILL) write.

Nothing compares to the sheer sickness of this book, it contains everything you could ask for - gore, sex, incest, horror, etc.

Read it now!
