Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I have read several books by Tami Hoag, and so far this is the best. I would have been disappointed in the ending, because I don't like books or movies that "leave you hanging"; however, since the story is continued in "Guilty As Sin", I am hoping that there will be closure. The book did not have alot of dead spots, but kept my interest throughout the entire story. If you have read other books by Hoag and enjoyed them, you will like this one.
Rating: Summary: Absolute Page Turner Review: This was a book I couldn't put down. The main characters are kept in the dark along with the reader. Tami Hoag takes you on a journey from the beginning of a crime step by step, not with a hero who has all the answers but with characters that are struggling to figure out what is going on along with the reader. If you want to have all the answers you won't get them in this book but it will take you on a journey you are not likely to forget.
Rating: Summary: Did it have to end!? Review: I picked up this book with few expectations but got so involved with the story that I just about freaked when I realized that the solution wasn't given! It was the first time I ever read a book and almost demanded a sequel so I could finish the story. Yes, there is a sequel - Guilty as Sin. Luckily I didn't read this book until after the sequel had been published so I only had a day or two to pick up where I left off. I would have to say that this is one of the best murder/mystery stories I have ever read. It's not a genre I usually read, partially because I rarely have trouble anticipating the ending. This didn't happen with this book (or the sequel). I was left puzzled until the end, which is a good thing!
Rating: Summary: Tami has a new fan Review: This is the first book of Tami Hoag's that I've had the pleasure to read. I picked up 'Night Sins' and 'A Thin Dark Line' at a garage sale to use for filler when I didn't have books by my regular authors available. Fortunately I didn't have to wait long and I started with 'Night Sins'. It was a great "who dunnit" and kept me changing my mind constantly as the clues came into view. The only thing that kept it from a 5 was that it has a continuation 'Guilty as Sin'. It's horrible not to know the ending after you've spent so much time being drawn into the story. 'Night Sins' is a classic mystery with enough different angles and twists to keep you in suspense.
Rating: Summary: UGH!! A complete waste of paper and ink. Review: This was, without a doubt, one of the worst novels I have ever read. The major characters in Night Sins are all misanthropic whiners, and by the end of the book I was hoping that the author would manage to weave an outcome in which all of the characters ended up losing. I almost got my wish, as this novel doesn't *have* an ending. Absolutely nothing being investigated by the detectives is resolved-- the final page is a print of a hand-written note from the author in which she says you'll need to buy her next book too if you want to learn what happened. The entire point of this book seems to have been to lock in sales for the next book, and, who knows, Hoag may just do the same thing again at the end of that book. I've learned my lesson, though-- Tami Hoag has become only the fourth author I've put on my mental "Never Read a Book from this Author Again!" list. And to think, the time I lost reading this novel could have been spent doing something far more productive and fun, such as twiddling my thumbs or banging my head against a wall.
Rating: Summary: Way to abridged - in the audio version Review: Let me start by saying that had this book been a longer version or even an unabridged story I might have given it a 4 or 5. My problem is that with the abridgement it was way to abridged. I felt like I was missing half of the story! Though the narrator did a good job with the information they had. Meet Megan O'Malley the newest Criminal Apprehension Agent in northern MN, and the first woman ever in this position, which seems to be an uphill battle for the start. On her first day in Deerlake not only does she meet the Sheriff in his underwear but also she is drawn into a kidnapping before she has even finished dinner. The story that issues is a fast paced and thrilling suspenseful story that I might have to go buy the book for to see what I missed with the abridgement.
Rating: Summary: Night Sins Review: Tami Hoag's book Night Sins is a very interesting book. It does have some down spots where it can be a little boring to read the book, but most of the book is really interesting and fun to read. What interested me in this book was how it deals with a really scary real life event. I like how it keeps the reader posted on every little detail during the investigation and how it seems so real that this could really be happening right now. This book shows the reader that life isn't perfect and anything can happen when you least suspect it. The story can also help parents realize that no matter how well behaved, smart, or if you kid is bad and breaks the rules your kids can still get kidnapped even if the parent believes that they have the perfect life.
Rating: Summary: Seemed like a VERY LONG READ Review: I am a Tami Hoag fan and I truly enjoy reading her books. I did however find this particular book to be slightly boring. The idea that this independant women cop "Megan O'Malley" would jump into bed with the "Chief" after just meeting him is crazy! She seems to hold her beliefs very high and I think that them diminishing in a second would be crazy! The book was ok!
Rating: Summary: true page turner Review: I absolutely loved this book. A child is abducted from a small town. The abductors taunt at the characters and readers throughout the book in a way that grips your gut. I actually wanted to yell at the book. I have never been so into a book that I actually felt like one of the characters. I didn't know who did it until the very end. If you get this book you must also get "Guilty as Sin". I would call it a sequel. I ordered it today and can't wait to get it.
Rating: Summary: Potentially good, but frequently boring Review: First, I'd like to say that I'm a big Tami Hoag fan. I have most of her books. They move swiftly, and I'm usually engrossed in her multi-layered characters. In Night Sins, however, the frequent switch between characters' thoughts, often in the same paragraph, was confusing and kept me from getting too emotionally involved with any of them. Ms Hoag usually has multi-viewpoints in her books, and while I always find it difficult to follow when she switches back and forth on the same page, when it's in the same paragraph, I become distanced. Not to say this book doesn't have it's strengths. It does. This author does her research. She knows the police procedures, her plots are always tight, and usually I don't know the villain until near the end. While she had some intriguing twists and turns, I guessed the villain fairly quickly, not something I'm normally capable of doing. I have Guilty As Sin on my pile to be read next, but somehow, I'm just not that excited about it after reading Night Sins. I missed the miniseries, but if I was going to recommend a book to put on TV, it would be Cry Wolf or Dust to Dust. Those held my attention!
