Summary: A Frightener!!!
Review: I always thought horror meant Stephen King until I read this book. This is has got to be my favorite horror novel of all time now. I really got in to what happened to Stony in it I kept reading all night long. Stony Crawford is one of the most interesting people in fiction Ive read. And what happened to the girl! Its terrifying in a way thats creepy and not gross. The parts about scarecrows and how they are based on crosses, and all the stories that the old woman tells about the kids full of flies and the legend of the Halloween Man all make this a great book. Wait til you get to the part about what happens to Lourdes. Its really scary.

Summary: Dynamite!
Review: This page-turning dark fantasy is full of mystery and stories within stories, and is one of the most original horror novels I've read in the past ten years. Move over Clive Barker and Stephen King.

Summary: Real horror, the way it's supposed to be
Review: This is the best horror book I've read in a long time. Scary town -- could be the one down the road. The writing is great and you feel like you're right there. You won't want to put it down! Can't wait for the movie!

Summary: Can't Wait!
Review: I read this in unbound galleys, and it is truly amazing. I can't wait for The Halloween Man to hit the stores so other horror lovers can see what it's all about. It is the most terrifying and terrific book I've read in years. Reminded me of McCammon meets Barker, but Clegg has that really original voice. Horror lovers, get this one!

Summary: Not the Clegg I like
Review: Clegg is a very good writer, "The Hour Before Dark" and "Afterlife" are both clear proof of that, but this book is not on the same level. I was a little bored by it, it's nothing new, you get lost not because it's a very complicated plot but because it's boring, short and a little predictable. Get other books by him, but skip this one.

Summary: Awesome novel!
Review: Another awesome novel by Douglas Clegg, who is one of America's bet out there in horror fiction with fantastic characters, superb and original stories and good vs. evil conflicts. This book grabs you from the first page and simply doesn't let go, it's that good.

Summary: The plotline was severely lacking
Review: I was very suprised to find mostly favorable reviews here. While the violent scenes were very (and satisfyingly) graphic, they really meant next to nothing because the wandering plot was meaningless. It was written well but you just CANNOT get into this meandering, chaotic, pointless plotline. For more than 90 percent of the book you have no idea where this is going, and in the end, the fearsome "halloween man" is the good guy...wait, he's still the bad guy...no, actually he is going to save the world...wait, the force within him will destroy everyone if it is let out.....you get the point.

Summary: really 3 1/2
Review: I did enjoy this book, but you can actually go thorough and pick out which books he drew inspiration from. The opening is quite similar to ghost story. Stony's childhood and adulthood reminded me very much of Mr. X. The character of Nora seemed very similar to Mother Abigal from the Stand. Also Nora makes reference to the demon Legion, of which Stephen King is constantly making reference to. Clegg is a talented writer, but I believe this book is bogged down with envy of other writers in this genre. This is my first Clegg book, and I will be reading more of him in the future.

Summary: Call me crazy, but.....
Review: I just plain 'ol didn't like the book. After finishing the last page, I couldn't help but sit back and say, "huh?" I thought the story was slow, filled with insufficient explanations and didn't really keep my interest. I was looking forward to this book, seeing many references to King and Straub in reviews, and after reading it thought, he's got nothing on those guys. Give me a King, Straub or Rice novel any day.
