Rating: Summary: Phantom- Truly a Great Book and better than the musical! Review: For me, I know that a book is truly good when it leaves me with my head spinning. Very few books have ever done this for me, but Phantom of the Opera did. I read it solely because I was going to see the musical and wanted some background information. The book ended up being better than the play could ever be. It's also a book that could appeal to all ages- I loved it and I'm 17, my parents loved it, my teachers, everyone! The only reason that I didn't give it a 10 is because some of the descriptions of the basement of the Opera House are a little hard to visualize, but with a little imagination it's all quite understandable and does not detract from the book at all. I recommend this book to anyone with any interest in classics or music.
Rating: Summary: A must-read if you love the musical Review: I have read this book as many times as I rated it! Each time I cannot put it down, and each time I cry. Although the musical is more true to the book than any of the movies, I would love to see a movie that is taken right from the book - why doesn't anyone recreate the torture chamber on screen?
Rating: Summary: Very good book Review: I really loved this book. Leroux really described everything in maticulous detail, so I felt as though I was there. The gripping story of Christine Daae' and the Phantom who loves her but can't have her cause me to be unable to put it down. Read it, it is very good.
Rating: Summary: The original version of the legendary story Review: In 1910, the classic story of a deformed, musical genius, haunting the dark cellers below the Palais Garnier in Paris, and abducting a beautiful young singer, first appeared in serial format. One year later, it was published as the novel "Le Fantome de L'Opera." Although almost forgotten as a book, the story became immortalized in a classic monster movie that was remade over 10 times, and has recently done well as a popular musical play. Although the novel owes it's recent popularity to the fame of the musical, it should be read for it's own sake, for it is an incredibly well told story. It's intense plot uses suspense in a way that would put Alfred Hitchcock to shame. It is utterly deplorable that this book is not as well known as it is.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books, I've ever read!!! Review: Phantom of the Opera is one of the most gripping books I have ever read! Leroux's illustration of the opera house and below makes you feel that you are really there. Anyone who loves to read should read this book!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, thought provoking, intense, beautiful... Review: I could go on! Gaston Leroux's book is more than meets the eye. It goes beyond the Beauty and the Beast theme to something much deeper. If you've seen the musical, and want to know more and dig deeper, this is where you want to be. If you haven't, it's time you were introduced to the story!
Rating: Summary: A novel of atmosphere. . . Review: This is an amazing novel of pure brilliance mixed with obscure darkness. Erique is a master of these lights and darks that fill our lives. I love this book and it's characters. Gaston Leroux is a genius of literature,
on account of his descriptions of settings and characters.
It's a novel of love, blood, and the arts. It hits me hard.
just my opinion
Rating: Summary: Now I know why it is a classic! Review: I went into reading this book with a forced hand and low expectations. To say that I was suprised is an understatement. I thought that this book was great and fast paced. I loved the narration that Laroux provides and the characterization. It was superb when, later in the novel, Laroux shifts the point of view to the Persian. The way the phantom is described throughout the book and the way he is described at the end of the book show a complete course of a bitter life and the end result of that life.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read... Review: the one liner says it all. Great book for description of real love...Would recommend it to anyone and everyone...
Rating: Summary: Summary of Phantom of the Opera Review: I really liked this book because it was a romance/mystery combined. Also, it talked about how society will dismiss people that aren't "right" or "perfect" to them. Also, the characters are portrayed very well, and it's a really good book.
