Summary: Phantom of the Opera...
Review: The discriptive language pulls you into the book, into the Paris Opera House, into the backstage shadows. It forces images upon you of the churchyard, of the spectacular opera performances, of the cellars, of Christine and of the Phantom... Never a dull moment. Suspenceful nights in box 5 and throughout the opera house. Read this and just try not to fall madly in love with the Angel of Music and his dark allure.

Summary: Phantom of the Opera....
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! The descriptive language forces the images into your mind of the beautiful opera house, the fantastic opera performances, the backstage shadows, the phantom's death head. You can imagine the phantom all around you; and hear his beautiful voice; the jealousy and rage in him, the love and yearning, desire. This book depicts how love can be, from a strange and intriguing perspective. You can not help but feel atleast sympathetic for the Phantom, his face hides his unique charm and talent from being seen by the public. Read this book, and try not to fall madly in love with the Angel of Music!

Summary: LOVELY LOVE STORY!
Review: Just what my sixteen year old, love sick heart needed! This story met all standards that I held for it! Not only did it give insight to Andrew Lloyd Weber's miraculous production of The Phantom of the Opera, but it made me love the characters and want to read more! Unfortunatley, all good things come to an end, as does this book, (and A very tear jerking one I might add) I shared this book with my relatives, friends, and family and they have all come to my same conclusion: This is an EXCELLENT BOOK!! Buy one, read it, and I guarantee you'll fall in love with it! It makes you want to jump up, hop on a plane, go to the Paris Opera House, and look for Erik! (I tried...don't get caught breaking rules!) Great story and have happy reading!

Summary: Good story
Review: I bought this book about a year after discovering and falling in love with the music of Sarah Brightman, the lovely British diva who for several years played the role of Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical "Phantom of the Opera." After seeing parts of the play re-enacted, and after listening to Sarah for a while, I figured I had to read the original story for myself just to see how good it really was. I found this book in a used book shop for about a dollar, bought it instantly, and finished it in a week.

I think this is a very good story because of the sophisticated characterizations of the people in it, and because of the several intriguing scenes created, scenes which do an effective job of conveying a sense of mystery. However, I do have to agree with another reviewer in this list, that the style is rather heavy and can be tedious to someone who is accustomed to light and fast-moving stories. There are times when one must concentrate and make an effort to read and mentally absorb the 19th-century prose. but it is worth the effort. It's not a great story, but it is a good one, worth reading again.

Summary: Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux- by Elizabeth
Review: I definitely recommend this book to all kids who love plays and musicals. This book is very well written but may have some words that younger children may not understand. One of the things I didn't like about the book was that the story line went to slow. By that I mean the plot was dragged out when it didn't have to be. This book is about an opera house that is said to be haunted by a phantom. But the owners do not believe this story and disregard it. But then strange things start to happen. They start getting letters from the phantom that threaten the lives of people in the opera. He does this because he only wants Christine (one of the main characters) to sing the solo parts of the opera. He wants Christine all for himself so he starts giving her singing lessons. The another man comes into Christine's life and everything is turned upside down. I'll be polite not to give you the end to this book but it is a very exciting book that will always keep you on the edge of your seat.

Summary: Phantom of the Opera
Review: I adore this book. I first read it the summer before my sophomore year in high school, it took three days for me to get all the way through it. THen I picked it up again between my freshmen and sophomore years in college and it took about two days to get through it. The development of the relationship between Christine and the Phantom was one of the great catching points in the book. The way that Raoul's jelousy is described is so vivid that I start to feel the same way. I have been very glad that I read this book, and I look forward to reading it again.

Summary: Thrilling!
Review: Where do I start? I have been facinated with the story of The Phantom of the Opera since I was about 10 years old. About a year ago, I decided to buy it. It took me about a half of a year to finish it, but it was really worth it. Gaston Leroux has described the Phantom in his full detail; from his hideous face to his nice figure inside.

As for the suspense, he has done a wonderful job keeping the reader into the story. I was glued to my chair while reading, but I couldn't put it down; so after about two chapters or so, I finally put it down, sighed, and walked out of the room with the book sitting in the table.

I finally finished the book in the middle of the afternoon and almost cried. What a sad ending! I figured this was better than the stage versions, movies, and other books any day.

I highly recommend you read this book; you won't want to put it down!

Summary: Excellent story, easy read
Review: This is an excelent tale that has been made into many (butchered) plays and movies. The mystery, suspense, and in parts, downright horror of this novel will make you never want to put it down. Don't read the novel thinking it will be like the famous Broadway Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (or don't go to the musical thinking it will be like the book.). The book has many more characters than the musical. Leroux writes "The Phantom" as it is a true tale, at times making you believe as though it is non-fiction. This is an excellent read for anyone looking for a good book.

Summary: Difficult to rate; even more difficult to review.
Review: How do you rate a book that is a classic, and understandably so, but which for a modern reader is not necessarily an easy or even an enjoyable read?

The plot is interesting enough, and well done from a technical standpoint. But the setting doesn't resonate with the modern reader, and to a lesser extent, neither do the characters. Of course, some of this is not merely anachronisms; you can find similar hopeless-love-triangle plots in almost any modern romance. This is a "classic" in that it was one of the first of the genre. Still, the concept of a villain who is redeemed by the love of a good woman is a dubious concept at best. Too many people have internalized this concept as real, and (if female) keep expecting their love to redeem the badly-behaved male in their lives, and (if male) use it to blame their own bad behavior on the woman in their lives who just isn't doing a good enough job of loving them to "redeem" them.

Interesting, but only recommended for those familar (and comfortable) with 19th-century literary styles, or those inclined to become so. Most modern readers would find the style of this book tedious.
