Rating: Summary: A good start to the Night World series. Review: Like all of L. J. Smith's books, Secret Vampire is a quick, thrilling read. Poppy is an ordinary teenage girl who at sixteen years old finds out that she is dying of cancer. That's when James, her best friend who she has secretly been in love with for years, reveals to her that he is a vampire and that he can offer her a cure - eternal life as a vampire. Now Poppy must make a choice - she can die or she can become a vampire. I especially like the ending, but I won't spoil it for you. All I can say is this book is awesome and amazing.
Rating: Summary: i'm not through yet, but its great so far! Review: i shouldnt be rating this (i haven't finished it yet!), but it is wonderful so far. i'm just at the part where poppy dies and phil goes into a rage. what i'm really rating, tho, is the book in this series called "Soul Mates." i would rate it at its page, but i havent found its page! the book is about Thierry (1st made vampire, oldest guy vampire, lord of the night world) who tries to find Hannah (hana of the 3 rivers, thierry's soulmate). there is a small problem, though - hannah gets upset over something thierry did the very 1st time they met (hannah's had lots of past lives) and Maya (world's oldest vampire, wants thierry for herself) messes w/ hannah's head. it really is a great book and i give it *****. you should try to find it someplace and read it, if you like secret vampire. i'd list other books, but, so far, i've only read those 2. feel free 2 email me at lis5998@alloymail.com. - :)

Rating: Summary: great start to a new series Review: The summer is just beginning when Poppy finds out that she's got cancer and is going to die. No one can help her - or so she thinks. Her best friend, and the guy she's secretly in love with, is a vampire. James is Poppy's soulmate and doesn't want her to die, but he's also a member of the Night World, a secret society of vampires, shape shifters, and witches. That society has two cardinal rules: never let a human find out about the Night World and never fall in love with a human. James has to break both those rules to help Poppy, and if anyone from the Night World finds out, including his own parents, it would mean death for both of them. The cover is awful, I know, but don't let that stop you. The Night World books are, in my opinion, L. J. Smith's best books, and this first one, while not the best in the series, is certainly very good. I'm not sure how I feel about Poppy, since she seems to enjoy the hunt and blood (there's a few times when humans described as a sort of blood-filled fruit - oranges or berries), while at the same time having moments where she's either disgusted by the idea or at least wants to find a better way to do things (hunting animals instead, or something). Mostly, however, she seems to enjoy what she is becoming. Since James doesn't like being a vampire himself, it made me wonder how good a match those two really are anyway. No of that interfered much with my enjoyment of the book, however, and I've liked it enough that I've reread it several times.
Rating: Summary: You Really Wanna Know Review: Do you really want to know what I think? I think this book deserves the highest rating possible. It's excellent. Poppy and James are some my favorite characters of all time. Their personalities are amazing. My vocabulary hasn't had much expansion yet, but this is...Let's just say it could encourage a young author to write. All of the NIGHT WORLD series are creatively written around one subject. The soulmate principal. If you want to take the time to figure out what that is, read one of the Night World series books. And if you're ever in the mood for a really, really good novel, well, here's the author for you. One word: Extraordinay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: This was a really great book. It really touches you when James wants to save Poppy. Poppy is dying of Pancreatic Cancer when her best friend James says he can save her by turning her into a vampire. Everyone should definetly read it. It isn't my favourite book in the series but it is a good start. I really like the way L.J.Smith brings out the characters feelings. It makes you feel what the characters are feeling and leaves you quite emotional. It is such a good book it makes you start to think there is a real night world. My Friend and I love the series and want more books out. I recommend this book to people who like vampire, romance, horror and emotional books. It is da best! L.J.Smith is totally cool!
Rating: Summary: vampiric romance Review: The Night World is a secret society of vampires, werewolves, and witches. In the first book in the series, teenage Poppy discovers she has terminal cancer. Things look pretty bleak for Poppy till her best friend and secret crush, James, reveals that he is a vampire and that he wants to make her one as well. Poppy isn't out of the woods yet, by making her a vampire James has broken the laws of the night world which could cost him and Poppy their lives. This is probably the best L. J. Smith book I've read so far. I enjoyed it so much I read it practically in one sitting. The characters, plot, and pacing were all perfect and the writing was very emotional as well. Smith's vampires are different from any I've read about before. She's also created a very intriguing world that makes me want to track down the rest of the series. Fans of teen horror, vampire fiction, or even just good romance should give this one a try.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I've read this book about four times, and I'll probably still continue to read it. I have this goal to actually get myself to read the Night World Series in order, but unfortunately, sense my boyfriend has some of my books, when I did decide "Ok, I'm going to do it" I had to skip over some books. LJ Smith writes great characters. This story seems to be one of those things that is just fancinating about vampires. A girl is about to die, and her only way to live is to become a vampire. Its romantic, it has an edge of evil to it, and its a great intro to the series. The series just glides right into things. I began to notice, recently, that they seem to be flowing in a yearly manor. Poppy finds out she's got cancer just after school let's out, Ash finds his soulmate just before school's back in session, the book after that happens toward the beginning of the school year, and so on. It really is just one long series and you get to meet so many different lives. Secret Vampire is still my fav. And actually, everyone seems to be always mentioning Ash. I really didn't find anything about his character that special in this book. He has a good part and I love him in the book after this, or rather I just love how Mary Lennette treats him. These books are funny, suspensful and romantic, just a good mix. Don't let these books pass you by.
Rating: Summary: Deus ex machina Review: The story was consumed with cliche for the most part. Centering around a lamia who falls in love with a human, it ignored most of the vampire mythos - not uncommon in recent writings involving vampires. Though the temptation to rewrite the legends is strong, Smith does do an admirable job of creating a new mythos in this book. The biggest difficulty reading this story is that the characters are too shallow. The ending was the biggest disappointment, however, as Smith pulled "God out of the machine" to fix things so that the two main protagonists weren't in danger of death any longer. The entire series reeks of this type of cliche writing. It's not bad; I just wouldn't recommend it for anyone over age 12.
Rating: Summary: Vampire story I have longed for.... Review: I've always loved Vampire story. However, I'm bored by those typical, traditional story in which Vampires were all bad(-_-). "Secret Vampire" has everything I want to read. From love to excitement.I especially like the process of how human transform into Vampire (usually most of the book didn't describe it clearly, but this one is crystal-clear, including all 5 senses). Also, I like the idea that only small differences between humans and vampire, that Vampire are not just monster. Characters in this book were all lovely. The end is really......you'll be surprised!!
