Rating: Summary: A good book! Review: This story is wonderful. I was confused at the begininng, but once I started to get into the story I was at the edge of my seat. Drew, the main character, was very interesting. I was actually very proud of him. He is a very shy person. He also gets afraid very easily, but when his uncle walked down the steps of the attic, he acted strong. When he was faced with bullies in his uncles time, he stood up to them. He overcame his fears and became a stronger person. I loved the story line. It was different than any book I have ever read. I would recommend this book to anyone. If you want a story thats different than any other, read Time for Andrew.
Rating: Summary: Changing the Past Review: Time For Andrew by Mary Downing Hahn is a thrilling ghost story about two ten-year-old boys named Andrew (actually, the modern-day boy is called Drew). The earlier boy is from 1910 and the modern-day boy is from the 1990's. Both boy are startled and confused to see each other in the bed that they both think they should be peacefully sleeping in. Immediately Drew notices that Andrew has diphtheria. Even though they have just met and he doesn't know Andrew that well he will switch time periods with Andrew. This way Andrew can live at least a summer longer and may even become fully cured with modern medicines. When they switch they both know it will be hard for them, and maybe even change their lives, but it doesn't quite turn out the way they expect. What makes Time For Andrew is such a wonderful book? Its dialogue and detail. The book's dialogue is extremely believable. Even though the story can never really happen, it becomes real in its own way. The choice of words make one feel close to the characters even though no one knows what the characters are really like except the author. This dialogue helps show the emotions and attitudes of the characters. For example, if one character knows more than another character about some of the odd people they meet, it comes out in the dialogue. This is extremely helpful when the boys come together at night because they might have something to say that isn't something the narrator could say. The detail also makes this book fantastic. The detail is spectacular. It is like the author is a third main character who doesn't do anything but observe (like in I Spy). One part where the detail is particularly effective is where one boy can see into his own time period even though he isn't in it. The detail tells (like the dialogue) the feelings of the boys, like when Drew doesn't want to come to the house in the first place. In any case, the detail in the actions and the vdialogue in the scenes help keep the story together. These two qualities plus many others make this book exceptional. In Time For Andrew the only element that might seem like a problem is the story always tells what Drew is doing even though he isn't the only main character. This really isn't a problem because when the boys come together all the stories come out in the detailed dialogue somehow. Also sometimes Drew can see the odd events happening in his time period although he isn't there; he tells what he sees Andrew do. You should definitely read this book whenever you are looking for something suprising, full of action, and somewhat mysterious. It is too terrific to miss.

Rating: Summary: Time For Andrew is the scariest book ever! Review: Time For Andrew is about a boy who goes back in time when he is at his Aunt's house. The setting is both real and imaginary.Real because his Aunt's house is real. Imaginary because he goes back in time. The people are believable because they are just like you and me. Andrew is a likeable person because he is not snotty or bossy. I loved the story! It was very exciting. He goes back in time and has to play marbles to save his life. Rating: Summary: The Must-Read Book of The Year Review: Time for Andrew is an amazing story of courage. This book helped me to realize that you can't always control your life. It is about a young boy who comes face to face with his ancestor. These two have lots in common and many differences. They both switch lives, venturing into a world with unfamiliar backgrounds. Andrew is trying to save his ancestor's life by letting him go into a world with a cure for a disease, which they couldn't cure in his lifetime. When Andrew began to act more and more like his ancestor, he grew worried that he may someday forget who he really is and fights for his life. In order to get his life back, though,he has to beat his ancestor in a game of marbles. In the nick of time, he finally wins the victory and takes over the throne in his world. When he gets back home, he finds a miracle, which he helped create. I suggest this book to anyone who loves mystery and adventure books. It is a fabulous book.
