Summary: Overall good
Review: I think there was a slow time in the beginning of the book, but a snowstorm forced me to continue. I am glad I finished the book because it was not a typical love story. It was very different. The main character I found as intriguing as the other characters in the book did. Leslie is very smart and I wonder how many people like her exist. The book is captivating and once it picked up, it didn't let go. The only other book I liked by this author is Flyy Girl.

BUT AFTER THE DEATH OF HER MOTHER THE FAMILY CAME TOGETHER AGAIAN AFTER SO MANY YEARS TO HAVE DINNER ON BEHALF OF THE DEATH. HER MOTHER DIED OF AIDS.

Summary: Dissapointing
Review: This book was sorely disappointing. It begans good but somewhere towards the middle of the book the object changes and the story falls apart. Tyree Omar had a chance to make this book memorable but he chose not too. If you want to read a good thoughtful novel, read Resurrecting Mingus by Jenoyne Adams.

Summary: A must Read.
Review: I have read all of his books and the only two books that I liked was Fly Girl and this book. It was very unqiue I am glad to see him bramch off from the usally books. I enjoyed the book and think everynoe should read it.

Summary: Much, Much Better!!!!
Review: I have to say that this is Brother Tyree's best work since Flyy Girl and I still say he can do even better. Leslie as a character and as a book was absolutely captivating. I think the author integrated the components of entertainment and education quite seamlessly. Through this work he shattered myths, piqued curiosity and gave us some much needed black history notes. I found all the characters to be well-defined and interesting. In certain parts realism takes a backseat, but with New Orleans and Vaudou as a backdrop and running theme, that was more than excusable. I thought this novel was fantastic in more ways than one and will speak for itself.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Social Commentary? Supernatural?
Review: Omar Tyree had good intentions of writing an insightful look into the lives of the haves and have nots of black society. But, there is an excess of everything. An excess of characters, subplots, genres. I never felt like I knew or cared about any of the characters. Leslie justifies all of her actions by stating she just wants to be left alone. The voodoo plot is poorly examined and improbable. There are too many characters and too many viewpoints without explanation or motivation. The ending is inconclusive and begs for a sequel. Wait and read the sequel, you won't have missed much.

Summary: Not sure????
Review: This book was very different but it was not what I expected. The story was very strong but there were also several weak spots. The ending [stank]. It was almost like Mr. Tyree did not know how to end Leslie's story. I hope Mr. Tyree will give us the fate of Leslie in his next book.

Summary: PLEASEEEEEE, Don't mess with Lesile!
Review: Where do I start with this book?! First, of all Omar Tyree did a superb job writing this book. I kept saying to myself now who wrote this again!

Lesile is a very smart, independent and attractive girl. She goes out of her way to help people especially her family. Lesile is the type of person that minds her own business. In this book she was dealing with so much- her sister has two kids and no good baby daddy, her mom is dying with a deadly disease, her brother is running with the wrong crowd and her father lost his job and left the family. Lesile is more like the mother to her sister and brother. When Lesile finds out she has special powers she started using them and you'll just have to read to see what evil and brutal things she does to people who get in her way!

Lesile is the type of person that you start off loving and then end up hating and then loving again.

Omar Tyree this was the BEST book I read all year long!!! Please keep up the good work and I look forward to your next novel.

This book was like WHOA! FIVE stars NO DOUBT!

Summary: Tyree's Best Work Yet
Review: This is a spectacular and unique work of fiction from Omar Tyree. Rich in complexity, characters, plot, social, and political commentary it is obvious that Omar has not only strengthened his style, but has also gained more depth as a writer. The only drawbacks to this newest work is that there is some explaining to be desired, especially in the section regarding the story Leslie's mother, Ann Marie tells her daughter of her Vadou priestess roots, and who are the mysterious Vadou priestess women who refer to Leslie as Isis The War Goddess, and what is their interest in her? Omar also leaves the reader with an antagonizing and haunting cliff hanger ending. Perhaps there is to be a part two? Still this work is strong, and brilliant, and will intrigue you from start to finish. Tyree earns 5 stars!

Summary: Life with Leslie
Review: Leslie Beaudet's life has never been easy. As the daughter of a black Indian mother and a Haitian immigrant father, Leslie's life always seemed to be a struggle. In the glory days her family lived in a grand house in a nice neighborhood, until racism took it all away. Leslie is the shining star of the family. She is a hard worker, a student at Dillard University and she is beautiful. Her two siblings, Pierre and Laetitia, seem to be running themselves into the ground. Laetitia is a high school drop out with two children, and she is not yet 20 years old. Pierre runs with a drug dealer and has no backbone.

Due to the lackluster lives of her siblings, Leslie's life is filled with pressure and a sense of obligation to others. Leslie's days and nights are often filled with pleas for help from someone in her family. Leslie is a serious and private person who usually does not give others the time of day. The only people that she has relationships with her three housemates, and though they live with her they don't feel that they know her at all. Her housemates feel that Leslie has a secret and they all want to know what it is.

After experiencing a major tragedy Leslie seems to get more mysterious and withdrawn than ever before. She has found within herself a mysterious force that is now controlling the course of her life.

Leslie by author Omar Tyree is an awesome book that draws you into Leslie's mind, a dark and sometimes scary place. This book is filled with rage, hurt and a general feeling of helplessness. But if you look deeper you will also see hope. This book was excellent and is in my opinion Mr. Tyree's best work. I look forward to reading more of the author's work in the future.
