Summary: Nice Effort
Review: Omar Tyree's . . . 'Leslie' was a difficult read for me. He chose an omniscient point of view, which means the reader is in every character's head. And since a small flood of character's arrived rather quickly, I was a bit overwhelmed and found myself wondering . . . who's thinking what? Once all the characters grew clearer, and I was less bothered by the all-knowing POV, I began to enjoy Tyree's edgy style and got caught up with his mysterious title character. Leslie Beaudet's beauty and secretive nature set her apart from her college girlfriends. Soon issues of Voodoo, jealousy and murder begin to swirl around the girl and all those near her. It's a wild ride. A good read. But the story seems to toggle between an urban horror yarn (as one cover page alludes to), and one attempting to disect the class and racial struggles of poor blacks in America. In it's struggle to be both, it acheives neither the chills of horror nor the pain of a well-aimed arrow in the heart of societal ills. As I said in the title, nice effort . . . but 'Leslie' just missed the mark for me.

Summary: Something to make you think...My kind of story!
Review: I was greatly impressed with Omar Tyree's work, "Leslie". In the past, I had read other books by the author, and felt that they were slow-moving as well as ennui. But after reading "Leslie", I conclude that the author has talent, but some stories, in my humble opinion, just lack luster. To overview the story, it is about a young woman, brought up in New Orleans that has a mysterious and haunting spiritual power. A power that serves as her own personal justice system, when the 'supposedly' equal system of America falters. Leslie was a quiet, protective (of her family), introspective young woman whose desire was to overcome poverty as well as uncover her own indentity. However, the cruelties of less unforunate living conditions, further take a pounding on her own well-being. Leslie's own gift bestowed upon her through her roots and ancient ancestory, aid her in fighting aggressively against her enemies.. Thought-provoking as well as symbolic, I highly recommend this book for those who would like a unique read as well as a fresh perspective on the grounds of poverty, love, mystics, family, and power all wrapped in one. A truly amazing book!

Summary: Absolutely Awful
Review: This book was absolutely awful, not sure if the other reviewers were reading the same book. If you like witchcraft and fairytales, this one is for you! Be Real, or at least Pretend To Be. The storyline, may have been okay without the witchcraft, or "special powers". I was truly disappointed.

Summary: Horror or Urban
Review: In "Leslie", by Omar Tyree, the writer takes the reader into a world of a young black college female with an interesting background. Although the author describes this book as an urban horror tale, it seems to be more of just an urban tale with voodoo as its unique twist. This was a medium read, with the audience waiting for the story to completely develop. Tyree does a good job with developing his characters, but it seems that the story line isn't put together as well. This was the first Omar Tyree novel I've read, so I expected a little more with all of the media coverage i saw regarding this book, and I was a little disappointed. On the plus side, this novel did make me think if the author is describing America's ghettos as horror in themselves, and the monsters are the people these ghettos create. Because I have a ghetto background myself, i could relate to some of the characters frustrations in the story from that stand point. However, there was nothing scary about this story to me, it was just an exageration of regular life for a black person from an United States ghetto that is trying to make it. However, those of us that make it in life to the level that Leslie made it, usually don't trip as hard as she did.

Summary: Good Read
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It's the story of Leslie, a Haitian college student attending an HBCU. Leslie has had a rough life and is trying to better her life by attending college. She is a strong and determined to succeed. All of her family members look to her for support. When her mother calls her from her death bed, she revels to Leslie that her grandmother was an high priestess and that Leslie looks just like her. Leslie is estatic and doesn't know how to deal with this new revelation. She begins reading up on Vadou and starts taking things into her own hands when trouble comes knocking into Leslie's life.
I gave this book 4 stars only because I didn't like the ending. Hopefully Mr. Tyree will give us a sequel.

Review: This was my first Omar Tyree book. As a New Orleans native and college graduate, I was thoroughly impressed with this book. I could not put this book down. I think I will read more of his books. This would be an excellent movie.

Summary: Honestly
Review: i liked this book alot but to be brutallay honest i feel it was a bit direspectful to haitian people. i felt it was streotypical to automatically conect leslie being haitian to voodoo and i personally feel the book would have been much better having dis included the whole voodoo thing. overall i really did like the book and i found it hard to put down and being that im not the biggest omar tyree fan that is a bit of a suprise. i recomend this book to everyone and anyone as proof that not all his books are boring to be specific a do right man(it really wasnt a great choice if you feel me). in closing i would say that this book had me on the edge of my seat and i would read it again an again but its due tommorow (lol)

Summary: I loved it!!
Review: In addition to Flyy Girl, I think this Omar Tyree's best books. When I first saw it in the library and read the description, I honestly didnt think that it would be something that I wanted to read, but I fell in love with it. The characters are urban, and I especially loved that, because there arent a lot of books that contain urban characters, especially horror stories, and I think that it was well written, entertaining, a real page turner; Omar Tyree tackled the concept of urban/horror like no other author has yet.

Summary: If They had 50 stars "Leslie" Deserves it
Review: Now many people that read this book told me that "I couldn't get into it", "It's too long" but me It eat up every page up as if it was my last meal. See in my opinion Mr. Tyree was trying to build the reader up with each page, not giving to much in the begining but making up for it in the end. This book is phenomenal the way Lesile handle her self in the end was in a way more ganagster than half of the "Street Novels" out there to this day. See with this book you wouldn't know what to expect reading it, so for all the true readers out there this book is one of my Top 5 recomemended books.

Summary: GOOD!!!
Review: To me Leslie is a very good book. Usually it is hard for me to finsih a book because the book is boring. Not Leslie. This book started out a little slow but over all it was very good. This is the first book I have read by Omar Tyree. Liking this book so much I also read Flyy Girl which is another good book. I'm 12 and it was kind of inappropiate for me(a few parts where charcters are having sex.)Other than that, I believe that this is a very good book and as long as your mature enough I really believe that you should read it.
