Rating: Summary: Book review from da Germanchick Review: I chose the book "The Select" of F.Paul Wilson, who was not just an brilliant author he also was a skilled medic, used his knowledge in the novel. "The select" story is fiction, but the setting is in the Ingraham College of Medicine in Maryland. Quinn cleary , one of the main characters is 21 years old and lives in Connecticut she and her friend Matt Crawford have an invitation for the selection of the fifty news students who are the best to get a scholarship. Matt has a friend Tim Brown who is also invited. Quinn comes from a poor family and she really need to get this scholarship it's her biggest dream, and in the Ingraham you have to pay nothing. Tim and Matt have enough support from their parents, if they would fail, it wouldn't be so bad. After Quinn and Tim made it because Matt gave his place for Quinn, they felt something is going on in there, something not right. Some mysterious coincidences folowed which made Tim more thinking about. The Ingraham has some secrets no one outside could notice. They found out the studentrooms are asculate. When Tim knew too much about these serects, workers of the Ingraham, who are behind this secret tried to do him away with hiding him in station c, where the doctor, Dr.Alston makes skin experiments with innocent people, like Tim, who also find out something is wrong in the Ingraham before him. This secret contains manipulating the students thinking with electric rays in their beds. Quinn didn't know where he was and she started looking him. After a while she got to know by her own researches that he is still in the Ingraham. With many thrilling actions F.Paul Wilson starts to confuse the reader and you really have to pay attention what happens earlier to follow along. It has a good end, Quinn informed the police and Mat who helped braking the long dark secret of the Ongraham. Tim who ended in the hospital because he got in fight when he escaped, and Quinn ahieved wht they wanted: Bring the truth to the people. The title "The select" has many backgrounds with the novel which you will nly understand after reading the book. it strts with the select of the fifty students. I think this book is vry good and interetig. it difers from oyher crime novels and it never becomes borin. It is a really detailed book. Some informationare similar to ow experiences an some yu learn new about. When I firstread the topic I ouldn't imagine how filled with information this book is, it seems to be like a more normal crime problem, not that specil, but it is surpriing more than that and that made me reading and reaing because of all these changes and new actions. I would say you shouldn't read this novel under fourteen years because of some details and specific descriptions. I liked the book a lot and it was more interesting for me aftereading than before, just knowing a little bit of context what seems after finishing like no information.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book!! Review: I read this book quite awhile ago but never wrote a review for it. I can't recommend this one enough! I still remember it quite well even though I read it 2 years ago. This is one of the best medical thrillers I've ever read. I could not stop turning the pages to find out what would happen to these characters. You won't regret reading this one.
Rating: Summary: Very suspenseful Review: I thought this book was extremely suspenseful from beginning to end. It certainly is a fast read..not a great literary work but fun and exciting. Take it to the beach or on a plane trip and have some page turning fun!
Rating: Summary: One of the best works of fiction I have ever read. Review: The mere possibility of the events depicted in F. Paul Wilson's book 'The Select' makes one of the best, and scariest, books I have ever read. The book is written with knowledge that could only come from a man with first-hand experience in the medical profession. This novel is a page-turner from the beginning. It picks you up and sweeps you away, leaving you soaked long after you've finished. Wilson does not clog the pages with medical mumbo-jumbo that would leave the seasoned reader confused, but delights your senses with clever innuendoes and metaphors. This is a must-read for fans of medical thrillers.
Rating: Summary: Robin Cook clone Review: This book was quite interesting but was not up to par with his previous work. While I'd recommend this book to friends,I'd tell them to read "The Keep" if they wanted to read Wilson at his best
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I've ever read in my 14 years! Review: This is the most captivating and stunning book I've ever read in my 14 years on this earth. Wilson's wonderful
method of writing keeps you on your toes throughout the entirety of this book. From cover to cover - surprises and
challenges for your mind. It's simply great! I recommend it
for any reader interested in medical, suspense or mystery themed books. Wonderful.
Rating: Summary: A First-Rate Medical Thriller! Review: What a great book! It had all the makings of top notch medical thriller to rival even Robin Cook- suspense, action, and a thorough medical knowlege! Wilson did his homework, and it shows. What I liked best was the believability! It's easy to believe that an elist group could conspire as to what should be done about the impending medical/social crisis when the Babyboomers reach old age. Also, when Tim is paralyzed and struggling for Quinn to notice him, I was chilled! I found myself struggling right along with him!

Rating: Summary: The Select(ion)- Love Story or Thriller? Review: Wilson has written two books, and combined them into one called The Select. He combines a love story between two medical students with a thriller about a medical conspiracy. We spend the first half of the book reading about Tim and Quinn, the two medical students, and how each likes the other. Tim is hitting on her in a playful way hoping to gain her love. She is always thinking how she'd like to be with him, but she has her studies so won't act upon her feelings. Throughout this we get a little dose of the conspiracy, but nothing really happens. Finally, Tim and Quinn realize their love, and the book changes focus to the conspiracy. The only real aspect of Tim and Quinn's "happy time" love is sex in a nearby hotel mentioned for about half a page. Then comes the conspiracy where the two lovers are seperated from each others and we really get to meet the "bad" guys. None of the "bad" are really evil, they think what they are doing benefits mankind. These characters, from the Senator, to security guards are great. They are complex people doing what they think is right, even though they know they would be arrested for doing it. I would have like to have seen these characters, especially Dr. Alston, developed more. Instead we get a 'this is why I'm doing what I'm doing' speech so the reader has a basic understanding of Dr. Alston. I would have liked to have seen what made him believe that what he is doing is the right thing. Overall, this is not a bad book, it just could have been much better. If Wilson had developed Dr. Alston to the length he developed Tim and Quinn, Wilson would have a much better book
