Summary: Book Has Great Potential But...
Review: ...the ending was rushed, loose ends were not tied, and that was disappointing. The beginning of the story was a little slow, but the book eventually started picking up pace as the protagonists, Anne and Mark attempt to find a killer.

I read the book in two days (it was that exciting!), but when I finished the book, I still had questions. Go ahead and give the book a try, but remember that the ending will be a big dud.

Summary: Saul dissapointed me with this one...
Review: After reading "Nathaniel," I knew that I was going to get into more of Saul's works. "Black Lightning" was the wrong one to pick. This novel has an excellent plot. The first couple of chapters makes the book seem very promising, but, after that, the story just goes downhill. After you've read more than half the book, the story gets exciting again. Then, once again, the story goes downhill...right down to the very end of the book. I had to build up excitment in myself just to finish the book.

Summary: This is a good suspence book.
Review: Anne Jeffers is a Seattle reporter who has been working on a serial killer's case for five years. The man is Richard Craven. For Five years he has terrorized most of the West Coast and many other states. Claiming victims that he doesen't even know and dismembering them. Finally he is caught and sentenced to the electric chair. The terror is now over, or is it? Anne Jeffers husband, Glen Jeffers, has a heart attack at the exact time that Richard Craven is executed. Two weeks later Glen is out of the hospital, but something is different. Lately, Glen has been having visions that make no sense to him, he becomes more aggressive, and he blacks out and wakes up in different places that he rembers. What's wrong with Glen?

I thought this was an interesting book. It is a little hard to follow until you get into the book. For example in Chapter 1 it is Anne's point of view, and in Chapter 2 it is Glen's point of view, then in chapter 3 it is back to Anne's, and so on until later on in the book. This is useful because you get to see what is going on with all of the characters. This was a good book, but it has a lot of graphic violance. Mature audience recommended.

Summary: Black Lightning leaves alot to be desired
Review: As an avid John Saul reader I was disappointed in this book. I long for the days when Saul based his stories out of New England and concentrated on the psyche of his characters. Black Lightning is confusing from start to finish. It is only in the last two chapters that the reader can figure out what is going on. While that is fine in some suspense books, Saul is constantly losing the reader and jumping around too much to take this story seriously

Summary: Black Lightning
Review: Black Lightning,
Cliché? Well, yes. This book has been written many times in the past. Does this take away from the enjoyment of the read? I say NO! I rather enjoyed this book. If I would have listened to what other reviewers had to say I would have never discovered John Saul.
Anne Jeffers and her husband Glen are caught in a nightmare, which seems to have no end.
A serial killer seems to be haunting them from the dead. Anne and her husband are taken on a whirlwind of a ride.
I thought the book moved at a great pace, it kept me turning pages. I don't like to give away plot so I'll just continue with my opinion overall.
This book does seem to have elements of many horror books that have gone in the past, but I believe there is plenty of room in this genre for many more books like this. Overall this book was fun and enjoyable. I never felt bogged down or bored. The pages turned at a nice pace and the story flowed smoothly. John Saul has a very smooth way of telling a tale.
Although this book may not be great, I felt it was very good and deserved much better treatment than many reviewers gave it.
I liked the book well enough to purchase other Saul books.

Summary: Promising at times with many lags in this serial killer book
Review: Finally, a John Saul book that I have read that is not entirely about si-fi killer children. The best part of this book is the beginning, but it drags after the first few chapters, with repetitive scenes. The best part that got my interest was that it was set in Seattle (familiar territory). I couldn't wait to finish it so that I could begin a new book that was on my shelf. This is probably the least liked John Saul book I have read to date, and I have read about 8 of his. If you are totally in to serial killer mysteries, this may be OK, but even the ending is not complete, as he leaves a potential romance between the key Policeman and the key reporter, just forgotten at the end...so, why all the lead-ons throught the novel?

Summary: Put on your seatbelt for a read at the speed of light!
Review: For diehard fans of Saul's prior bestsellers, this thriller will not let you down. Instead it will take your breath away as it takes you at breakneck speed through the execution of Richard Kraven, a serial murderer, and the psychological terror he placed on and continues to place on Anne Jeffers and the residents of Seattle, Washington. Begin reading this book early in the day. Trust me - you won't be able to put this novel down until its last electrifying page leaves you breathless and spent.

Summary: Department of Morbid Details
Review: For what it's worth (shudder) this is the book that the "Yosemite Serial Killer" Cary Stayner had in his backpack at the time of his fourth, and final, murder.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Don't bother unless you're really bored.
Review: I don't know why I keep thinking John Saul will eventually write a good book. He is a mediocre author, and this is one of his less than mediocre books. Maybe he wrote a good one once that got him a really long contract with some unfortunate publishing company. I have yet to find it. I'm sure someone thinks he's brilliant, but anyone who reads Black Lightning looking for something twisted, mysterious, or horrifying should not bother with this book. It's just plain stupid. Don't bother with John Saul at all for that matter. I have read several of his and am tired of being disappointed. Curl up with Steven King on a stormy night if you want a true, well-written scare. Even his bad ones are better than Saul
