Summary: A story that has you rooting for the vampires.
Review: I bought this book in a used book store. The cover of the paperback is a bit of a put off.
It looks cheap and reminded me of those old B-Grade horror movies of the sixties. But I read the first few pages and decided I would give it a try. I've read it several times now, and undoubtedly will read it again.

The main character is Braille, no first name, just Braille. The story opens with him being held prisoner in an under ground secret government facility, where they are exposing to him every disease known to man. Cutting him to see how fast he heals. His body resists all these tortures. Supposedly they are using his body to find cures for these diseases, but these men are after money and power.

Braille is a man who has seen and done too much in life. He has extensive martial arts training, but only wants to be left in peace on an island off the coast of Washington with the woman he loves.

Enter Gregory, an ancient vampire, who inadvertently contaminates Braille, making him a vampire. Any who are made vampires, these "new ones" become worse than animals. They go on a blood lust, killing anyone to get blood. Existing only to kill and drink blood. But Braille, with his martial arts training and philosophy, and his iron control over himself, was able to keep the blood thirst from overpowering him. Thus making him an ancient like Gregory.

Thousands of these "new ones" are terrorizing downtown Seattle, and if unchecked, these "new ones" would continue slaughtering people, spreading vampirism, until eventually there wouldn't be any humans left. Together, Braille and Gregory set out to destroy these "new ones", and the secret agency that wanted to imprison and use them.

Anyone who likes horror, will love this book. It is truly one of my favorites. I wish I could find more of Patrick Whalen's books.

Summary: Monastery
Review: I had read Night Thirst first and was so amazed at how much I loved it, I searched high and low for Monastery. It took a while, but finally found it. I was not able to read the book after dark and had to wait for the daylight to continue. That is how scared I was. It certainly is the best book that I had ever read. I am interested to know if the Author will be continuing with the series.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I have actually meet Patrick Whalen a few times and chatted with him on the phone, since he lives in the same small town that I do. He seems to be a very easy going person. I have read all of his books at least 3 to 4 times and think they are all worth buying. Now I am just waiting for his next book.

Summary: A great sequel
Review: If Vampire novels are of interest to you, you'll aboslutley love this one. It's a modern vampire novel; none or that futuristic internet stuff and none of the 1800's old fashion style vampires. It takes place in a believably modern city and it really makes you believe that this is how Vampires would react in our society today with our society's situations. A very well developed plot and characters as well as a very in-depth sadistic look at the nature of vampires. Two thumbs up. I read it 9 years ago and lost it, and I've been looking for it ever since until I finally managed to order a copy through Amazon. It's well worth your money and you can read it over and over!
