Rating: Summary: Maybe I'm just a weenie, but... Review: I actually liked this book! Okay, the ending was sorta cheesy, but it was good. I think Levin closed out the Rosemary story perfectly...with a twist ending (and don't even TELL me you knew it was coming, because you didn't). The "roast mules" puzzle and the "Judith S. Karyhat" (go on, say it out loud-get it?) killing (thirty pieces of silver...hmmm) are very intriguing. Who cares if the ending was a cop-out? I loved this book as well as the original. So there.
Rating: Summary: An embarrassment! Review: What brought Ira Levin to this low? Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives are two really wonderful books, and I hoped that this would be as good. Instead, I was subjected to possibly the worst novel I've ever read. (Yes, that includes the Bridges of Madison County.) The plot is ludicrous, the characters are moronic, and the ending is painfully dumb. I can only hope that the movie studios don't turn this into a picture. It's bad enough to defame the original book. Let's leave the original movie alone.
Rating: Summary: Talk about a waste of time! Review: I'm glad I didn't spend money on it (by borrowing it from the library), but I can't get over wasting three hours of my sunday afternoon on this tripe.
Rating: Summary: Levin should be ashamed of himself! Review: Rosemary's Baby was and is a classic. How could its author spit on his own creation this way? The ending was outrageous. I bought this book and hardback and when I was finished I returned it to the bookstore and got my money back. I feel it would have been more honest had Levin reached into my pocket and grabbed for my wallet. People will buy this book because of the original and this novel is a massive cheat. He has forever tarnished the glory of the original with this piece of trash.
Rating: Summary: No way... Review: I thought Rosemary's Baby was a great book and I read Son of Rosemary right after. It was terrible! I mean, all she has to say is 'He's my son' and the whole world believes him.. Definitly not worth your time...
Rating: Summary: SON OF ROSEMARY... Review: Now, ROSEMARY'S BABY fans... don't expect this one to even touch the original. This is definitely less than what I expected and when I turned the last page, I was horribly disappointed. Yet I gave it three stars. Now why did I do that? I don't know, maybe I'm just giving ol' Ira Levin some credit. Even though there is such a huge gap between when he wrote this and the original, he manages to make it feel like you're picking up right where you left off. Characters from the original are mentioned a lot in this one as well as terrifying occurrences that took place in the original- but much like Robert Bloch's PSyCHO 2, it lacks the atmosphere that made the original so creepy. Truthfully, I had always wanted a sequel but after reading the novel and through heavy contemplation, I realized the original could have stood alone by itself. Its anti-climactic ending suited it perfectly. Rosemary's son, Andy, is a world-respected man- a jesus figure if you will to everybody. He alone unites them. He and Rosemary meet again years later after she wakes up from her twenty two year long coma. The beginning scenes are great, i'll give Ira Levin that. Yet it goes downhill from there. The Judy S. Kharyat puzzle along w/ the Roast Mules anagram didn't really leave me w/ an "Oh, s***" feeling after I read it and that scene where a lady started screaming out in the church had no effect on me. What I did like about the novel was that it at least had a nicely constructed plot. How Andy was supposed to wipe out humanity, how his human side overpowered and how he rebelled against Satan. Scenes, like that, are really great. The confrontation between Rosemary and Satan is pretty good and is a scene that stands out in the book. All in all, I say it's a good weekend read even though it'll leave a disappointing taste to fans of the first one. At least in my opinion. You wanna know what happened after all those years? Read it. But the ending- God, you'll throw the book in the trash.
Rating: Summary: This book challenges your knowledge and is a mystery book. Review: This book is a great book. For me it challenged my knowledge about what you knnew about people. It was also a book that drew me in like I was part of the book. The author was so discriptive that it felt as if you were there watching this going on or that you were the person that this was happening to. The thing that really caught my attention was that Andy said that they were just dancing but what they were doing was getting high. Also that Rosemary was able to figure out what was up with the candles and why there was already alot of people were dead because a few people had lit a couple of candles. I also thought that Rosemary was so vunerable to think that Satan would have been able to promise her youth forever. But what he really wanted was a person that would give him more children so that he would be able to run the whole earth and that he would not have to worry about Andy that had ruined everything for him. I think that if you are into mystery books but you also like books that test your knowledge this is the book for that
Rating: Summary: A baboon could write a better novel. Review: This is without a doubt the worst book I have ever read in my life. It is like an unbelivably terrible mix of a Harlequin Romance, (with worse writing), a Penthouse Forum letter, (with a less beleiveable plot), and a "horror" novel written by a six-year-old (with less structure). It has no plot, the characters are all completely un-developed (especially Rosemary), and every unimportant detail in the book is described painfully and boringly. I swear to God there were sentences I had to read 2-3 times just to understand what he was trying to say. And I don't think that's because I'm stupid. I could not finish it, if I read one more page I probably would have killed myself. Rosemary's Baby is the best book I have ever read. I cannot believe that the same man wrote both. The back of a cereal box is infinitely more interesting than this "novel".
Rating: Summary: So scary that I could not put it down. Review: This is a great book because the author gives the reader little tips and clues that make you want to read more.I think this is a good sequel to Rosemary's Baby. From the first time I got my hands on it I knew that it was going to be scary. The best thing I like about this book is how Andy makes every one think that he is a good guy, but the mom thinks that every thing is weird.
Rating: Summary: "Lame" effort not up to Levin's usual high standards Review: I have read -- and thoroughly enjoyed -- many of Levin's books, including Rosemary's Baby, This Perfect Day, and my favorite, The Boys From Brazil. Levin's plot twists, and especially his rare talent for unusual and thought-provoking endings have made each of these books real page-turners. Some sequels actually improve on their originals; Son of Rosemary is a lame effort that only reinforces the opinion that even talented authors like Levin should leave wildly successful stories uncontinued. If you are a "Dallas" fan and bought the "Pam's dream" explanation for Bobby's resurrection after the scriptwriters killed him off, you'll love this book. Otherwise, don't waste your money.
