Summary: Three Cheers For King !!!
Review: Well I must say that when it comes to Stephen King you usually know what your getting...a good read. But with the latest installment in the King terror dome I believe people are going to find a masterpiece thats not Kings usuall style. From the moment you open this book to the long(and lucrative) awaited final installment in the series,King will have your emotions in his bare hands as he takes you on a mystical journey through the eyes of Paul Edgecombe and the tears of a Monstrosity named John Coffey, buy it.

Summary: The Green Mile: The 6 part serial
Review: This was the first Steven King book I have ever read so it was quite a surprise. I was expecting something a little more scary but what I got was even better. This series brought you to death row. It let you experience the electric chair and living with the consequences first hand and it looked at death rather lightly. All the secrets of death row are reveiled. King allows you to witness miracles happen on the "E" block. From the magical mouse Jingles to the hated character Percey King takes you on a trip to destiny, which sometimes means death. You will learn about all the prisoners and how they got in to the Cold Mountain penitentiary. King portrays each character perfectly. He shows you that even though they have all done something horrible to get them in there they are still people and have feelings. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a bold, nerve-twisting book.

Summary: Stephen King at his best...
Review: The Green Mile is a six-part novel told from the eyes of a former prison screw, Paul Edgecomb, who ran the executions at Cold Mountain Prison during the Depression in the south, where racism was real. The "Green Mile" in the story is the last walk, the lime green hall that leads to the electric chair. This book is Edgecomb's account of the events that took place over 60 years ago, when a huge black healer named John Coffey (notice the initials) comes to E Block (death row), along with a short Frenchman, a smart mouse named Mr. Jingles, and a problem child who wreaks havoc on the block. However, the most hated character is not an inmate, but an insensitive, evil guard, Percy Wetmore, who, I'm happy to say, gets his in the end. Most of all, this is an emotional story that will move you to tears, and sometimes, even to rage. It will make you wince with the gruesome parts, and it may even make you question religion.

If you've seen the movie and liked it, then I highly recommend that you read this book (more than once). This is a more detailed description of the events and characters, and it also has some background info that may help you understand the plot line better. The Green Mile was an excellent story and a cool supernatural tale. John Coffey may be one of Stephen King's greatest characters of all.

"We each owe a death, there are no exceptions, I know that, but sometimes, oh God, the Green Mile is so long."

Summary: ANOTHER READING
Review: There isn't any doubt that Stephen King is the master of his craft. The Green Mile is an intriguing story with various levels of issues that make you take a second look at how we treat one another. As much as I liked King's novel there were areas in it that weren't up to par in his writing. His book deserves another reading and focus on those weak areas.

The setting takes place in the south during the depression. If you read the dialogue of the characters carefully you would have no idea that they're southern. Mr. King has failed to capture the cadence, inflection and beauty of the varied southern voices. Everyone sounds alike. Yes, Mr. King does attempt to provide us with the distinct voice of the Cajun dialect but even that falls short.

Mr. King does a good job in pulling out all of the stereotypes in his characture of John Coffey. Coffey is your typical childlike, dump, passive and sexually charged negro.Such a character has been a stock and trade of southern white writers. King continues on with the tradition. Coffey is the sacrificial negro lamb who is always helping others to his own detriment.

John Coffey supposidly committed a hideous crime yet the racist attitudes of the people were not in keeping with the times. In fact their reactions were pretty mild. I found it hard to believe that the reader was transported to the south where racial tensions, lynchings and the overall atmosphere would be quite unpleasant for any African-American. An example would be a review of the Scottsboro case during that period.

Overall, King has provided the reader with a good story that touches on sexuality, cruelty, injustice, punishment of the innocent and our culpibility in the sordid affairs. If Mr. King had of avoided stereotypes, made the setting more realistic and captured the southern voice, his work would have been even better than what was presented.

Summary: An All-Time Favorite Of Mine
Review: Not only was this an excellent story, but I loved the way it was first published...in serial form. Looking forward to another installment each month was so much fun!

Summary: King Has Done It Again!
Review: In another wonderful example of King's literary craftmanship, The Green Mile is a magnificent trip through the human soul all the way from page one, to page 536. King pulls from our deepest emotions and and never lets go through the whole novel.
The story bases around the men living and working on the Green Mile, a "death row" at the time of the Great Depression. Paul Edgecombe is a guard along the Mile and this story follows him and an extraordinary prisoner on the Mile, John Coffey.
This is a book that anyone worth their salt would recognize as simply incredible. King weaves all of our feelings throughout this book, from brutal anger and misdirected rage, to the purest hope and innocent kindness and love. I loved everything about this book, especially the secret connection of John Coffey to that of Jesus Christ (JC).

Summary: A definite page turner!!!
Review: I would recommend this book to anyone. I am not really a "fan" of Stephen King, I have seen several of the motion picture adaptations of his books, and always assumed he was this writer of really scary stuff. I read this book, and was surprised to see that it wasn't really a horror story at all, sure there were a few gross parts, but the dynamic of the story really outshined that. I couldn't put the book down, I had to see what happened next, and I amazingly read the 536 page novel in two weeks!! The story made me think, and I definitely see King as more than one-dimensional now! John Coffey is an extaordinary character, he will touch your heart.

Summary: Best book ever written
Review: I have been reading Stephen King books for 22 years. The Green Mile is the best one. The movie that was made from the book was exellent. They both made you mad,cry and excited. John Coffey is a beautiful character. Stephen King made John a man that you would have to love. Now Percy on the other hand, he was one that you loved to hate.
