Rating: Summary: Not just for kids... Review: As a teen, I read countless books by Christopher Pike. Most of them have since been packed away in boxes or given to younger friends and relatives to enjoy. The Midnight Club, however, remains on my bookshelf (its cover is nearly torn off from so much use). Pike expands his horizons in this book, departing from his usual themes of horror and death. Though the book is all about kids who are dying, the prevalant theme is life. Pike gives us a great truth in a story told with deceptive simplicity: it is not the number of years we live that makes our lives meaningful, but instead the way we spend those years and the other lives we touch. Don't be dissuaded from picking up this book because of the YA classification--a must-read for all ages.
Rating: Summary: i loved it ! Review: I have read many books of Christopher Pike's, "Midnight Club" is truly his greatest piece of work. The book has many stories told by kids who have cancer. Pike does a wonderful job illustrating these kids life, you feel their pain and suffering. One story that touched me the most, was the one with the Angel. The book was very easy to read, I finish it in one day. After reading this book, you realized that nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes! The main theme in the book, Pike focuses on is FORGIVENESS. I recommend this book to everyone. It's different than most of his other books. There's less action and gore, but still its wonderful book to read.
Rating: Summary: greatest hit Review: Another hit by Christopher Pike. the first time I read this book it gave me the creeps. The way how he described the pains and the sufferings caused me to feel them too. that was the creepy part. It's about kids who are sick and stuff like that. It is a must read (only if you have a strong stomach). you should also read the remember me trilogy, spellbound and chain letter. those are some other good books by CP.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent book for readers 10+ who like different stories Review: This book starts out with 5 characters(Anya, Illonka, Spence, Trevor, and ______?). They live in a hospice, because they all have fatal diseases. They had formed this club callled The Midnight Club, and all five of them are members. Every night, their meetings are started approximately at 12:00, and they all tell stories to one another until dawn. One night, they all made a pact that if one of them did pass on to the next life, that they would somehow give the others a signal. Anyway, after one of them finds out that their disease is no longer fatal, she leaves, and then shortly after that, one of them dies. To find out what happens to who, you should read this book, because it is very interesting once you get into it. I think Christopher Pike did an awesome job on this book, and I give it a 10 out of 10.
Rating: Summary: Pike's most emotional novel to date Review: Of all the Christopher Pike books I've read, (about two dozen), the Midnight Club is prbably the most well written and most emotionally charged. The individual plot threads of each character are also so well-developed, by the end of the book you feel as if you have been living in Rotterdam Home hospice with all the characters and attending all the meetings of The Midnight Club.
Rating: Summary: A Lover of Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine Review: This is the best book I've read in a long time. This book makes you cry and think about your life, and be happy being healthy. This is Christopher Pikes best. He put in so much soul that I could feel myself there. Not a lot of books can make you cry and feel grateful at the same time. You should get this book if you want to feel like you are a character of the book, but you're not named as a character in the character's lives.
Rating: Summary: Honest Review: Deals with both uplifting and dark messages about death. Pike has successfully woven several short stories into one awesome novel...as a group of friends gather at midnight to tell many stories about love, revenge, anger, and acceptance. One night during a meeting, they make a pact. The first to die (yes, it sounds depressing--but it is actually very heart-felt) has to try to come back and tell the others about the afterlife. Ten years later, and still my favorite Pike book. My copy has ink throughout...highlights and notes. This is how I read all the Pike books--hoping to find some philosophical message that my mind either understands or will think about until it gets the point. Part of my entertainment in reading is that I just may have to learn something...and rethink my own beliefs. Pike is really good at doing this.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully Inspiring Review: Im 20 years old, and have been a pike fan for many years. None of his books touched me like this one did. I too, am sick, and will die well before Im "supposed" to, so reading this book was touching on many diffrent levels. All I can say is be sure and get it, it's a beautiful book and you will remember it for years to come.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Love Story Review: Rotterham Hospice in Washington State is a stately seaside mansion that once belonged to an oil tycoon. Rotterham Hospice is for teens suffering from terminal illnesses. Ilonka, Anya, Kevin, Spencer and Sandra form The Midnight Club a club. They meet in the library and tell scary stories, as a way to briefly escape their tragic reality. During one meeting, the teens make a pact that the first one to die has to make contact with the others. Ilonka knew Kevin in a past life and her stories revolve around her memories of that life. She loves Kevin but he has a girlfriend named Kathy, a cheerleader in perfect health who visits him at the hospice. One day Ilonka tells Kathy the truth about Kevin's illness namely that he won't ever be coming home. It breaks them apart but Kevin isn't angry with her for doing it and discloses that he remembers those lives in her stories. Anya dies and her personal belongings disappear like in a story Ilonka told about her past life in India, could it be a sign? The Midnight Club is both tragic and romantic with an air of mystery and suspense. The ending is a real tearjerker!! Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: It journals death Review: Honestly, this book has not much to do with the caption that graces it's back. While it does follow the lives of young adults dying at a hospice, the first dying member doesn't bring the remaining grief. While the caption may mislead, the book is still great. You will find yourself engrossed in the characters, they are wonderful. While the book isn't much horror, its still great, I suggest it to anyone, not just Young Adults.
