Rating: Summary: "Death always has a way of complicating things." Review: On Nantucket Island something dark and all together dead has started killing, horribly mangling bodies and playing head games with those who find the remains. Detective Tim Brooks has the unfortunate luck to witness for himself the fear on the first victim's face. Something more terrible than he can imagine is walking the island and the planes of exisistence that lie between. The detective was a rational man until he started hearing and seeing ghosts.I liked this book, the first I've read by Mr. Hynd. The story was good, although a little slow at first. After 60 pages I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The characters were likeable, the action intense and scary. The evil ghost was pretty darn vicious even if it was a little overexplained. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Ghosts an 8 for being scary, fast, absorbing, and for the twist at the end. Points off for not having enough blood and real terror. The resolution didn't set well either. However, as a whole the book was enjoyable, which is the point after all. I will be reading more of Mr. Hynd in the future. Check it out.
Rating: Summary: Scary as hell Review: Quite simply, Hynd knows how to scare the living hell out of readers. Better than King, Straub, Koontz. It's not really horror, it's psychological terror. Why isn't this guy famous?
Rating: Summary: Scariest novel since The Shining Review: Stunning that this book is out of print; about 1/3 of the way into the story (everyone agrees at which point this happens), it grabs hold and does not let go until you've returned to the days when you were afraid to read at night or when you were alone in your house. A tremendously scary, tense novel with likeable characters and a fascinating resolution. I wish I'd never read it so I could read it again for the first time. If you liked 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, The Legend of Hell House, you'll love this.

Rating: Summary: Ghosts Review: The BEST and SCARIEST GHOST STORY I have ever read! I read this book once a year and I still get scared by it. I remember the first time I read it in 1992, I was alone in the house and even though it was daytime I got spooked by my own house sounds. If you find a copy of this book and you enjoy ghost stories, don't hesitate to buy it. Over the years I have lent it out two or three times, always insisting I get it back promptly. My copy is worn, but much loved. It's about that time of year for me, so I think I'll just take it out for another great read. Since this book I have been disapointed by Mr. Hynd's other ghost stories. I felt they have never quite risen to the scary heights of Ghosts. I wish he would write a sequel. Take my advise, buy it if you find it and don't read it when you are home alone at night!
Rating: Summary: scariest book since The Shining Review: The book starts slow, but about 1/3 of the way in--and every friend to whom I've recommended this book agrees as to the exact moment when--it takes off on a stunningly frightening ride that you will NOT want to experience at night or while you're alone in the house. It's scary, it's tight, and the writing is better than most in the genre. To give you an idea of what I think its peers are: The Shining, Salem's Lot, Hell House, Lovecraft's work, the stories of William Hope Hodgson, maybe "Smoke Ghost" by Fritz Leiber. A great read! I wish I'd never read it so I could discover it again. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Rating: Summary: Made me scared of my own home Review: The most frightening novel about ghosts I have read. It takes place among the normal peaceful neighborhoods of Nantucket Island. The ghosts haunt the town by night, good and bad alike. They are not limited to any house, nor will any home keep them away. The ghosts stalk the night. No one is safe. Starts out like a murder mystery and comes around to horror and romance. Fabulous book.
Rating: Summary: OHMYGOSH! Review: This book is like none other that I have EVER read! I've told everyone I know to read this, but I have had to warn them ahead of time! This isn't the type of book to read late at night, all alone, like I did! One ring of the telephone and I jumped to the ceiling. Readers beware: Noel Hynd will scare you to the brink of death, then he'll make you wonder what REALLY happens after you die. This is a creepy read, and it's thought provoking to boot!
Rating: Summary: Are you afriad of GHOSTS? You will be after this book! Review: This book was definitely the scariest I have ever read. I stopped reading it for a week because I was losing sleep. The characters are believable and the storyline is uniquely plausible. The most frightening aspect of the book is its believability!
Rating: Summary: Watch out for the GHOSTS! Review: This is the first book I have read by Noel Hynd, and I am anticpately waiting to read "Cemetery of Angels," which is sitting on my shelf. Noel Hynd has articulate writing, and he captivates you from page one until page 511. The characters are very realistic and intelligent, and his psycholgical writing plays tricks on you through the entire novel. The main character, Annette Carlson, is a big-time movie star looking to get away from the people and the cameras for a little while, so she proceeds to spend time on Nantucket Island. There, she moves into a victorian style house, address, 17 Cort Street. Timothy Brooks is a detective for the island and soon meets up with the island's most sinister and horrifying creature ever. As the story progresses and SPOOKS YOU OUT, the two characters are drawn to each other. Noel Hynd provides a cunning and intelligent novel with a hit-the-bricks suprise ending!! I loved this book, and I am sure you will too. If you are the type of person that needs more sleep than the average person, like me, then be prepared to lose sleep over this terrific novel!!
