Summary: A bit disappointing
Review: I was looking forward to reading a really good ghost story. There are so few around. But I also enjoy murder/mystery and that is what I got out of this book. It started out as a ghost story and soon turned into a who-dun-it. Very predictable and drawn out.

Summary: Refreshing!
Review: I'm always on the search for something to read that is simply a good book. Every year they become increasingly hard to find and I am amazed when I do find one. Sad,isn't it? I was suitably amazed when I found this book and I think that anyone who would like to read a good, old fashioned ghost story would love this book. The only thing this book lacks is the arrogant indulgences of King, Koontz and Rice. What a pleasant surprise and a great read.

Summary: Haunting to say the least!!
Review: I'm currently working on my own "horror" novel and if I can scare half as good as Noel Hynd has with Ghosts, I'll be a happy man. A great novel - yes, the leads were a bit cliche - detective from small town falls in love with big name actress - but there were many moments in the story where I looked over my shoulder while reading on the couch late at night. And I did not see the twist coming in the end. I think Ghosts is the kind of book I'll read every couple of years. Loved it!!! Will definitely seek out more of Mr. Hynd's stories.

Summary: Atmospheric, creepy..why can't more horror be like this?
Review: It seems like most horror fiction goes for cheap scares and blatant gore. Then I found this book, which subtlely created a sense of ominous dread through its length. Characters are sympathetic and interesting; not merely obnoxious disposable victims. And there's a story here, not just some critter on the loose. This is definitely one of the better crafted horror books I've read. I guess that's due to the fact that the author has already established himself as a straight fiction writer. One criticism I do have with 'Ghosts' is that the pacing of the supernatural events could have been better, and it could have used more of a sense of escalating tension. Beyond that, the characters' paths through the story kept me involved all the way through. I definitely enjoyed it.

Summary: One of the better endings I've read in a long time!
Review: It's really too bad this book is out of print as it is definately a good ghost story. I must disagree with many of the other reviewers however, while creepy and well written I would not clasify it as "terrifying" and it certainly did not keep me up at night. The story development is excellent, the characters quite believable, and the "ghosts"do all the right things. I especially loved the ending, it was totally unexpected and was actually my favorite part of the story. If you can find it, Ghosts is definately worth a read.

Summary: Absolutely spellbinding horror at it's best
Review: Noel Hynd had me hiding under the covers with this one. From page one I was strapped in on this
roller coaster ride of horror.

A very well defined plot and characters, people that you feel you might know, and spirits that

made me think twice about the things that go bump in the night.

A perfect story for a movie, with maybe Sela Ward in the role as Annette Carlson.

I have Suggested this book to friends and even bought extra copies as gifts, and everyone agrees; sleep with the lights on...

Summary: Superior Ghost Story
Review: Noel Hynd has crafted one of the most suspenseful supernatural thrillers to come along in quite some time! As a long-time fan of ghostly tales, I was very impressed by his ability to create a truly unique story from a genre that lately has lacked originality. Hynd picks the perfect setting - the beautiful island of Nantucket, Massachusetts - for his tale of a beautiful movie star whose new summer home is beseiged by paranormal events. Hynd's characters are about as well-developed and likable as I have seen, and even the minor characters and victims are given their own unique identity. Perhaps the most successful element of the book is its setting: the claustrophobia and isolation of remote Nantucket is ever-present throughout this book and adds a tangible amount of fear and suspense to the story. The identity and motivation of the ghost is chilling. I highly recommend this book to all fans of this genre

Summary: NOT FOR LIGHT SLEEPERS
Review: Noel Hynd's 'Ghosts' could possibly be the scariest book ever written. The amount of tension and pure terror in this fully realized modern masterpiece is nearly sufficient to make the reader physically ill. Hynd has created wonderful, beleivable characters and set them down in the beautiful setting of Nantucket Island in Massachussetts -- where pretty much, all hell breaks loose. I loved this book and I have reccomended it to everyone I know who likes a good scare.

Noel Hynd has done with 'Ghosts' what Stephen King has been talking about doing for decades. Do yourself a favor and surrender to it (even if it means sleeping with the lights on for a few nights!).

Summary: "Death always has a way of complicating things."
Review: On Nantucket Island something dark and all together dead has started killing, horribly mangling bodies and playing head games with those who find the remains. Detective Tim Brooks has the unfortunate luck to witness for himself the fear on the first victim's face. Something more terrible than he can imagine is walking the island and the planes of exisistence that lie between. The detective was a rational man until he started hearing and seeing ghosts.

I liked this book, the first I've read by Mr. Hynd. The story was good, although a little slow at first. After 60 pages I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The characters were likeable, the action intense and scary. The evil ghost was pretty darn vicious even if it was a little overexplained. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Ghosts an 8 for being scary, fast, absorbing, and for the twist at the end. Points off for not having enough blood and real terror. The resolution didn't set well either. However, as a whole the book was enjoyable, which is the point after all. I will be reading more of Mr. Hynd in the future. Check it out.
