Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: Wilde's novel takes us through the dangers and temptations of hedonism. It is a fantastic psychological adventure.
Rating: Summary: an outstanding book Review: This book is mainly about the corruption of the soul, and it really makes you think. I recommend it to anyone who loves mysterious and critical books.

Rating: Summary: Not as good as I expected for such a literary icon Review: I picked up this book to read, partly because I am a big fan of Wilde's plays, and partly because the concept behind this novel has become such a part of our collective conscious that I wanted to know what was behind it.It was filled with all the wit and cynicism that I expect from Wilde, but, I found it to be a bit tiresome to read. I suspect that this is partially due to the fact that it is so solidly grounded in the late 1800's that the concerns of the characters are a bit distant. Still, I must say that I feel that it is a book worth reading. Anything that has seared itself into the western world's consciousness is worth investigating.
Rating: Summary: decadence Review: Once his portrait completed, Dorian Gray wished to stay young and handsome forever,on the other hand his picture would deteriorate with time . Since that moment our young Dorian starts to lead a life of sin...
Rating: Summary: Cleverly Written, but Unsatisfying Review: This book fits Wilde's description of a cigarette as a perfect pleasure - portable and brief, yet leaving you unsatisfied. Like Dorian Gray himself, this book is superficially charming, with its numerous and clever epigrams, but with some very ugly undercurrents, e.g. virulent anti-semitism, misogyny, and homosexuality. We never connect emotionally with Dorian Gray, who never matures into a complex or interesting character, but remains as some gay ideal with psychosis. Read Henry James' "Portrait of a Lady" or Edith Wharton's "Age of Innocence" for a far better written, devastating attack on Victorian morals and hypocrisy.
Rating: Summary: Dorian Gray as a modern tale of Narcissus. Review: In his painfully insightful and superbly articulated novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde is able to bring an ancient myth of Narcissus back to life through the embodiment with Dorian Gray. The bane of human vanity is portrayed through the deeds and misdeeds of a tragic hero who reminds us of Narcissus and his trials, tribulations and death. A scathing verdict on the whims and vices of the Victorian England society as well as one of Wilde's timeless masterpieces on the frail yet vicious human ego.
Rating: Summary: Buy my book, please! Review: Hi, This is Oscar Wilde surfing by to tell you that you should really buy my book. Some of you might say, "Hey, aren't you dead now?" Well, yes, but my spirit lives on so I can write reviews for Amazon.
Rating: Summary: Great views and thoughts on "The Picture Of Dorian Gray" Review: "The Picture Of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde is a deep, mysterious, and thought provoking story. It is the story of a man by the name of Dorian whose whole life changes when he meets a pursuasive character. Dorian is influenced in such a way that he is lead to beleive in evrything that this character says. In doing so he finds himself, or rather his soul caught in a "picture" of troubles. This is a novel that is boring and yet interesting at the same time. It begins rather slow, but the excitment builds as the story progresses. The author, Oscar Wilde, uses a tremendous amount of description. We found that the amount of description both hindered and harmed the story. There was a great deal of detail in the beginning that we found superfluous and boring. However, we also found that later the detail brought the reader more into the story. For the most part we all really enjoyed this story. We would recommend it to generally everyone(unless you are not one for detail). This novel offers the reader everything; murder, mystery, thrills, chills and more! It is a well written, perplexing and enticing story that you will enjoy and remember for years to come.
Rating: Summary: Wilde's Egotism Review: I have recently read this book as part of my A-level syllabus and found it little more than an excuse for Wilde to voice his egotistical and condemnatory views of Victorian society. The storyline is faintly interesting but is ruined by Wilde's constant attack on Women.
