Summary: Unputdownable
Review: It's been a long time since I was so riveted by a story I stopped my busy life so I could finish a book. You find yourself aligning with the characters and the appalling situation they're in -- and, it makes you wonder a little bit about your right to privacy. The ending was a bit of a disappointment but the rest of the book was excellent.

Summary: After finishing The Association....
Review: ..which is my sixth Bentley Little novel, I have to say that Little is one of the best horror writers on the scene.....too bad he wastes his enormous talents on the most ridiculous and supremely absurd stories I have ever read. I continue to read his novels because of his great storytelling ablities, but jeez, his stories are flat-out silly. Here, we have a mature and gifted author cranking out the most immature and cheesy stories, and that is truly a very infuriating combination. The Assocation is the best written of the 6 I have read, and it's also the silliest. I hope Mr. Little isn't assuming horror fans in general want these simplistic and utterly unbelievable stories, because we actually want mature and believable tales. Suspention of disbelief is one thing, but, as it stands, his tales demand that one suspends their entire I.Q. When his stories reach the level of his writing skills, we're gonna have one helluva horror writer, but until then, I'll suffer this "admire/insult" pattern he has established.

Summary: Good Social Commentary
Review: Bentley Little is one of the few authors that I know that can take a simple social issue and show the evils some of these issues might have.

In THE ASSOCIATION, Barry and Maureen Welch move to an idyllic neighborhood which has a home owner's association. They all have rules and regulations that at first might seem logical but then they border at the inane and ridiculous turning this into a horror novel. It shows what may happen with people who become power hungry and how rules that are meant to control can also destroy. The Welches do their best to fit in the neighborhood but then discover that they might be trapped there forever if they do not do something. The Bonita Vista Association have severe penalties for housing infractions.

I enjoyed this novel even thought there are several graphic scenes involved. This book is not for the squeamish. If you like this novel, I strongly recommend his previous novel THE STORE. It also has an extreme message but it is something small business owners can identify with.

Summary: OOPS!
Review: As I read I laughed a lot at what I thought was "dark comedy"!
But thenm I noticed on the book's spine that this was classified as "horror". - OOPS!

Summary: Give this book a try
Review: This was the 5th book of Bentley Little that I have read and was the one I liked the most. However both the Store and Univerisity come a close second. He builds both his characters and plot very well. In this particular book he starts with the normal meddling that home owners associations do to the people who are unfortunate enough to live there. Then he pushes it a little farther and you believe that, that is not so far off and believe it is possible. Then it goes further and further until you are absorbed so much into the plot that it seems believeable.

Summary: The Association
Review: This is quite possibly the best book I have ever read and I have read alot of books. It was one of those rare times when I could not put a book down. I read it in 14 hours and I would have done it faster had it not been for the annoying things in life... It grabbed you from the first chapter. I think the best thing about it was that the characters were believable and you could definitely see yourself in their position. If you like horror definitely buy this book. Stephen King fans would definitely appreciate the style of Bentley Little.

Summary: Read the book in 2 days
Review: This was the first book I read of Bentley Little and I took the book with me on a business trip to Dallas. I spent two evenings in my room reading the book and ordering pizza and spicy chicken wings. A very good read that had me in touch with a number of emotions. A well-written story that was easy to read and gave you enough suspense to make you lose track of time. I fully intend to pick a few more of Mr. Little's books for future trips.

Summary: My 3 day trip
Review: I read this book in 3 days, it took me that long only because I had to sleep. This was Mr. Little at his finest. I've read all his books and this was by far his greatest.Knowing what I do about homeowners associations he didn't miss a thing. If they could they would pull these kinds of stunts.Im waiting in anticipation for his next real life adventure into evil. Thank you Bentley keep up the excellent work.

Summary: Another all night read....
Review: I have to admit, this is my first experience with Bentley Little. I'm not a huge horror fan, but always enjoy a good novel.

I was first drawn in by the cover, which is amazing. I live in California, in a community (not gated) where we have a Home Owners Association. Luckily not run by this one!! I was pulled into the book immediately, and couldn't put it down for a minute! I stayed up all night reading until I finished. The next day I ran to the book store looking for more by Little to find nothing. I spent the next few weeks in search of more, and found 6 of his earlier books (Revelation which was scary but not as good, Dominion which I'm reading now, House, Town, Ignored, and the Store).

Summary: Beware the Association
Review: Bentley Little has a knack for taking the most ordinary parts of day to day life and giving them a horrific and supernatural but realistic twist. In The Association, Little tells the story of a couple, Barry and Maureen Welch, who by the supposed perfect home in a gated community, Bonita Vista, in Utah. Enter the Association.

Shortly after moving in, the couple is met with the rules and regulations of living inside this idyllic gated community. The rules border from the mundane to the absurd (a resident with two vehicle must have them parked pointing the same way) to down right horrifying (the Association does not allow children and has the right to terminate any pregnancy of a resident). Barry, a horror writer, is not even allowed to write at home because the Association does not allow residents to use their homes as a place of business.

Those who do not follow the C,C & R's, the Covenants, Conditions & Restrictions of Bonita Vista are subjected to outrageous fines, slavery and even unexplained disappearance. The novel tells of Barry and Maureen's fight against the power of the Association. Little's depictions of the strict guidelines and absurdities of the Association cause the reader to immediately side with Barry and Maureen.

This book turns out to be a true battle between good and evil but Little creates a horrific little community within the confines of ordinary life which makes the book all the more horrifying for its possible realism. When you finish, you wonder if Bonita Vista could be a real place and whether or not the Association is watching you!
