Summary: Astounding start to an exceptional saga!!!
Review: This book was AWESOME!!! I absolutely was on the edge of my seat through the hole duration of the novel. The whole idea of a gatehouse was very creative and was very well presented in the book. The book is very fast-paced, having action in the prologue when Buffster and the gang meet up with Springheel Jack, taking the reader on a relentless, wild ride that continues on up until the end of the novel. I loved the way the authors not only sent Buffy and Giles to the Gatehouse, but Cordy and Xander got to go with them! Cordy is one of my most favorite characters and I love her... ummm... "relationship" with Springheel Jack. In all my experience with Buffy novels, I have never found one where Cordy is involved in much action. After this novel, you will have a whole new respect for her:) The authors throw all of the characters into the fray, with plenty of action with not just Buff, but all the rest of the gang. The characters were extremely well written and I liked the way someone said that they felt like they were actually watching the show while really only reading the book. The authors include pleny of sarcastic, slap stick remarks, which you could definitely see coming out of the mouths of the characters on the real show. This is definitely and A + plus book and I highly recommend the series to, not just Buffy fans, but anyone that enjoys fantasy or sci-fi. Thanks!

Summary: A Must for Buffy Fans
Review: The Gatekeeper Trilogy. This book is one of the better Buffy books i've read and i'm not bragging here but i've read alot. I liked the Way the author built up the story to a dramatic climax at the end. I thought it was good when Angel tortured the men to get information out of them, and I liked the idea of the Gatehouse and the Gatekeeper. The author also wrote the characters relationships and thoughts in a very good way. Definetely worth the money and I can't wait for the next Gatekeeper Trilogy.

Summary: Ricardo's Out of the Madhouse Review
Review: I must first say that this is a great book. Bringing the scoobies out of there home town and into Boston is great. Willow's Spell we terrific, Oz's travel threw the ghost roads were excellent. Angel and Buffy fighting side by side was great. And even Xander does his part in this book. A couple of great twist in this book, with a great plot. The house itself the best part. Infinite rooms many different creatures that Buffy has never seen. Without giving the end away I would have to say when I finished this book, I rushed over to the story and bought the next 2. The last page of the book is great, with a BIG surpise. This book gets 5 stars only because I can't give it any higher of score.

Summary: Book One in a Promising Epic & (Finally) A Buffy Road Trip!
Review: "The Gatekeeper Trilogy" does one thing that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series has been unable to do, namely get the Slayer and the Scooby Gang to hit the road. The Hellmouth is a convenient excuse for all sorts of vampires, demons and big evils to come visit Buffy and the gang in Sunnydale, but a road trip has long been in order. Unbound by considerations of stage space and shooting budgets, "Out of the Madhouse" manages to get the Slayer and most of her cohorts to Boston, with the promise of even bigger trips down the road.

The plot has to do with the Sons of Entropy trying to unleash chaos on the world at the behest of Il Maestro, who works mainly behind the scenes in Book One. Suddenly all sorts of wicked things come to Sunnydale and it turns out that there have been released from the Gatehouse where the Gatekeeper is dying, leading up to an initial showdown in Boston. The other recurring concern throughout the book is more personal, dealing with what Buffy, Xander, Willow and the gang are going to do when they get finally graduate high school, so there is a concern for the entropy of the group along with the potential destruction of all human life on the planet. Implicit in their concerns is the unspoken knowledge that Buffy is fated to die young as a slayer and their realization that whatever hopes and aspirations they might have seem somewhat secondary to saving the world from big evil.

Authors Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder are perfectly suited to the task of constructing a literary epic for Buffy. Not only because they are clearly the best pair of writers working on the Buffy books to date but also because they have researched the characters and the attendant mythos of the series, having written/edited the Watcher's Guides and Monster reference books for the show. They have come up with a plot line well suited to a three volume tale and you only have to read a couple of chapters to acknowledge this book is so far above the vast majority of these paperback efforts. Furthermore, they get beyond the surface level with all of the characters, although they do fall prey to the tendency to put too many quips into dialogue. I notice that their Oz sure talks a lot more than the one on television, but they do have an especially nice feel for the emotional attachments of these characters to one another. They get the important stuff right.

Trivia note: In flashbacks early on in this novel we meet Catherine de' Medici, wife of Prince Henri the Dauphin of France in the year 1539. You might not have heard of her, but you might recognize the name of her husband, seeing as how he is the prince in the movie "Ever After" from a few years back. However, neither Henri, King Francis, Leonardo di Vinci, or Danielle appear in the flashbacks. Ever notice how history is never like the fairy tales?

Summary: Outstanding Thriller
Review: An extraordinary tale of evil and monsters,Out of the Madhouse is the first book in the Gatekeeper's trilogy. Taking the story out of Sunnydale and expanding it to Boston is refreshing. Every element is new and exciting. Mr Golden and Ms Holder have out done themselves. The action is fierce and fast. The emotions tear at your heart. The ghost roads a clever invention.

But with all this the Ritual of Endowment moved me to tears. I have told everyone I know about this part of the book. Buffy fighting for her life and her friends prevented from helping her. Instead they are gathered into a circle to concentrate their love and support into a force with which to endow the slayer. To me it is symbolic we raise children to be young adults and send them out in to the world to fight their daily battles. We can do it for them or with them. All we can hope it that they know they have our love and support to see them through.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. I have read it three times.

Summary: One of the best Buffy books ever; edge-of-your seat action.
Review: Out of the Madhouse was one of the best Buffy books written so far. The action was non-stop, the characters were depicted perfectly, and I could picture the scenes in my head. Golden and Holder are definitley the best Buffy writers; it's a shame they're not planning on writing any more books together. If you're looking on picking a Buffy book to start with, go with this one. It's one of the best.
