Rating: Summary: Good start, somewhat disappointing ending. Review: I read the book description before I bought the book so I knew it was a screenplay. The format didn't bother me. It was hard to put down once I started. The setting, with the storm and the isolation of the island contributes to the fear factor of the story almost as much as the villain. I was disappointed in the ending, not that it wasn't believable it just wasn't the ending I would have preferred.
Rating: Summary: Dear God, please stop the whiners! Review: Had the two previous readers been more observant, they would have noticed the words "an original screenplay" plastered on the front cover of the paperback. All this whining about King or his publisher misleading the public into thinking "Storm" is a novel is just silly... Stop scapegoating the author for your lack of vigilance! In short, get a grip, okay? :-)
Rating: Summary: At last! More horror from King! Review: When I ordered "Storm of the Century" I was expecting it to be in the typical novel form. The screenplay format put me off at first--for about two minutes. Then the story and the burgeoning atmosphere as the storm began to build drew me in until I was totally absorbed. I found the ending to be a bit predictable, and I kept praying it wasn't so as I continued to turn the pages. But it was every bit as horrible as I had imagined and then some! With this book, King is back on my list after having disappointed me with his last several books. He's still got it!
Rating: Summary: The book is written like a script and is hard to follow. Review: I am a huge fan of Stephen King and love just about everything He writes but this is very difficult to follow. It is written in a script format which makes it difficult to really visulize the situation which for me has always been half the story with anything he writes. After I see the movie, perhaps it will be a better read. I know I will give it a second chance,
Rating: Summary: RIP-OFF OF THE CENTURY Review: Dear Constant Reader, (as Stephen calls us): Do NOT order this "book" sight unseen! It is merely a copy of the screenplay for the (upcoming) made for television movie. I was expecting a full-length novel; especially for the $12.00, plus shipping price! Shame on you Stephen! Shame on you Pocket books! This "book" should be named RIP-OFF OF THE CENTURY !
Rating: Summary: Good book but be careful... Review: I really enjoyed this book but I was un-prepared to find it a screen play rather than a novel. Thats tricky as its billed as a Novel.... a screenplay is much different. Be careful....
Rating: Summary: A worthy contribution to Stephen King's legacy Review: From the minute I picked up "Storm of the Century" I was sucked into this placid, small, Maine coastal village, as swiftly and violently as the wind in the tale. Written in screen-play narrative, similar to the short story "Sorry, Right Number" in "Nightmares and Dreamscapes", this tale, offers technical views of the settings, and some subtle side comments(if you read between the lines)that offer us a glimpse of the author's insight. Building in suspense from the very first page, the reader is violently and completely immersed into this town and its occupants. Although the characters are slightly one-dimensional, King fans are, no doubt, used to the sacrifice of character development, for the unusual and imaginative plot lines. I finished this book in one day, I simply could not put it down, until I had discovered the secret to this town and it's occupants.( welcome and unwelcome). My only critique would be the, seemingly hastily done denoument. I was unsatisfied with the way things all turned out, justice, thy name is not Stephen! Overall, this book is a worthy successor to Mr. King's previous volumes,(and better than some). Keep up the good work! I am, and will always be your "constant reader".
Rating: Summary: What a major disappointment! Review: Warning! This is the screenplay of 'Storm of the Century' and reads like a play! If you're looking for a novel - don't order it! I was looking forward to another S. King 'sit and read right through' novel. NOT a screenplay. I guess I missed the fine print
Rating: Summary: Exiting Screenplay! Review: Stephen King has made another novel full of horror and suspense. The biggest storm ever is about to hit a town called Little Tall Island in Maine. While this storm is occuring a strange gentleman named Andre Linoge stops to visit. He walks up to a home owned by an old woman Martha Clarendon. Linoge charges in the old womans home and brutily murders her. Later, he purposly lets the police department arrest him.
Rating: Summary: Great plot! Review: I bought this book a few months ago not realizing it was a screenplay. I tried to read it then, but lost interest, because it was a screenplay. I picked it up again last night and just now put it down! Very well written. Once you get past the fact that it is a screenplay you get totally lost in the characters. The ending was surprising, because I thought the townspeople would make a different choice. King seems to know how people would react to certain situations. We all like to think we are basically good, but deep down we are selfish. This isn't up there with THE SHINING or 'SALEM's LOT, but it is very well written, and I highly recommend it.
