Review: "The White Room" is an amazing mystery and thrillers/horror book. I absolutely loved reading it! The ending is unbelieveable, and the book had me hooked until the end. He better write more books because I am sure going to buy more from him. If you like mystery and suspense with a little bit of a scary edge, I definitely recommend this book to you. This book is one of my favorites. You will be totally swept off your feet when you read the end. I am adding this book to my favorites list. Buy this book, it is awesome, and the first sentence will hook you till the last.

Summary: A novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Review: A novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A.J. Matthews does an outstanding job by combining a family vacation into a terrifying nightmare. Tim Harris and his wife Polly decide to travel to Main on a family vacation with their son Brian. During this time Polly experiences many tragic events that end up haunting her. The worst part is that she doesn't know there is more to come. Mysterious things start to happen when human bones in a construction site are found and ghostly objects are seen. All this will cause chills on the backs of the readers as the intense moments are read. The most exciting part about this novel is that the reader has no idea what will happen next with the high suspense.

Summary: 3 1/2 stars, U either love it or hate it!!!
Review: I couldn't believe these reviews!!!!

You either loved it or hated it; most people giving it a 1, 4, or 5 star!!! This was a decent and captivating read from Rick Hautala (Maine's OTHER writer Besides King)under a fake name. Hautala is a good writer who often starts out slow and builds up to an interesting and entertaining story; his plots aren't real complex, but sometimes tedious.

However, his story here is pretty good and he does a credible job describing Polly's emotional state; although for my taste, she passes out a few too many times. Two times okay, but any more than that and it gets annoying.

Characters ARE not cardboard material; Brian is a young kid growing up that would rather spend time with his friends, Tim a little self-centered, and Polly is a little clingy and emotionally disturbed after losing a child.

Throw in a psycho who likes to hurt people emotionally and physcially, along with some vengeful spirits and you have a nice summer-time yarn.

Mr Hautala keep writing and please increase your volume!!!

Summary: Boring Read
Review: I did not enjoy this book. It is written poorly and the story is not very good. Unbelievable occurances and boring (not to mention annoying) writing style combine to make this book almost unreadable. Read some Ambrose Bierce instead!

Summary: a good late-summer read
Review: I found this book to be a good way to spend a lazy afternoon. The heroine could have been stronger and more "heroic" and the relationships between the characters better developed, but the story is nicely paced and has a gruesome but satisfying ending. The premise is harrowing, especially if you're a parent. I am looking forward to Matthews' next book.

Summary: The White Room
Review: I had trouble finishing this book. This is the first book by A.J. Matthews (a.k.a. Rick Hautala) that I've read and it will be the last. The entire book is melodramatic and very corny. She's sad, sad, sad... and sad some more. This book was poorly written. Ninth grade description and silly character reaction to the situations. I could go on and on about how much I dislike this book, but you get the point. This book was just silly and not worth the paper it's printed on. Oh, and wasn't it supposed to be scary??

Summary: The White Room
Review: I have enjoyed reading a number of Mr. Hautala's books and I found his new book under the psuedonym "A.J.Matthews", The White Room, quite good. His story unfolds slowly and has a few twists and turns. Mr. Hautala's main character, a mother who has lost a child, witnesses (experiences) the death of a young girl in an emergency room in a hospital. A victim of a hit and run.
The experience affects the main character is a profound way, which is evident in Hautala's vivid emotional and descriptive writing as he trys to convey the the profound affect (spiritual) on the main character. What makes the story interesting, is that the haunting is not in a home but in the mind of the character.
But there's more to the story. Hauntings abound and a sociopath
threatens the whole family. Recommended to those readers who enjoy mysteries with a haunting element.

Summary: Really Great Read
Review: I really liked this book. I've never read this author before but I picked it up at the library on a whim. I am very pleased!

I checked this book out yesterday and just finished it today. I was unable to put it down. I am certain that I am going to add this book to my personal library. This book kept me emotionally evolved from beginning to end and isn't that what books are for? Whether it be joy, sadness or good old fashioned fear (I love roller coaster rides myself!), the sign of a good read is how it made you feel.

This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I would recommend it to anyone who loves roller coaster rides!

I don't enjoy reading reviews that tell the whole book but then again I never, ever read the back of a book or the inside jacket so I hope it suffices to say that if you read this book, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
