Rating: Summary: It was OK Review: This was the first Shannon Drake novel I have read. I did not find it all that great. There was not enough suspense in it for me and, it started to get boring after the first hundred pages. I could not really get into the story.
Rating: Summary: Vampire Love Story Review: Who knew there where vampire/werewolf romance stories out there? Looks like there are a whole series and genre to this. Scary in more ways than one. Vampire love story. Vampire romance novels. Think about it. Anyway. The back of the book sort of gave me an impression that this wasn't a vampire book. Silly. So I read it but got a bit into the story before I realized the silly subject. Its quite a good story, and its interesting. I guess every individual author has to make up their own vampire rules... I just don't understand the vampire/undead sex romance thing. Then to throw in a werewolf angle, it was too much. I have read this author before, when she writes/wrote normal stuff, and was impressed by her quality. But was shocked about this stuff. The story is about two cousins in France who fall in love with vampires and werewolves. An archaeolgical expedition goes wrong; a vampire is unearthed and kills people etc. We all fall in love chasing her down. Its pretty believable in scenarios---she keeps true to the storyline, etc. Its just....I just can't get over it. I read a vampire romance; part of a series of romances. And they have sex. OK. Gotcha. Hope she moves on from here.
Rating: Summary: Realm of Shadows: a Vampire fascination Review: Shannon Drake is an esteemed author who has dazzled all of her devoted fans with many other interesting page-turning thrillers such as Seize the Dawn, Come the Morning, and Deep Midnight. All of these books have been fascinating and thrilling to read, but Drake has yet again shocked her fans with a new thriller, Realm of Shadows. Realm of Shadows is a brilliant mix of fantasy and suspense, romance and danger. It is a story that takes place in the city of Paris, France, where in an ancient churchyard just outside the city, exploring archeaologists uncover a hidden, ancient tomb. All of the diggers feel that they have made the discovery of the century, but something goes terribly wrong and a plague is released on the city of Paris, a plague of pure evil. Shannon Drake simply accentuates her creativity in this novel to make the fantasy of a young girl falling in love with a deceptive and adventurous creature of the night that is trying to save the city from mass destruction seem a reality. Everyone that enjoys a good suspense story where a prominent character in the plot is both on the good side, and part of the bad side, will definitely enjoy this novel. The book shows that she is extremely well-endowed in the literary sense and some of her phrases and sentences are quite complex for a normal easy read. This aspect makes her focal point a little hard to follow at times. However, even with these few alterations from her normal style, I couldn't put it down, and I am very eager to see what else Drake will come up with in the near future. Realm of Shadows by Shannon Drake is clearly a good read and I reccommend the novel to everyone.
